Haven't seen this posted (this is from July 29th)

While the University of Evansville players and coaches are busy packing their bags for a week-plus in Europe, assistant Todd Lickliter on Monday announced his retirement effective immediately.

Lickliter, 64, cited he is stepping back from the coaching ranks to focus on spending time with his family.

The quote that also caught my attention is from UE head coach Walter McCarty:
"The important thing for him is to be healthy and be able to enjoy his grandchildren."

With his sudden announcement on retirement, hopefully this is not health related.

While he was a terrible coach at Iowa, I always felt a little bad for him as it seemed he had lots of health problems.

Terrible hire. And we all know who holds primary responsibility for that.

As for the guy himself I think about him the same way I would about a bland pair of tan pants hanging in my closet. Neither evokes a reaction one way or another.

When it's Senior Night and the game is virtually over and one minute remains... and you don't have the common decency to put in one of your seniors for a final token appearance... you don't qualify for my "good guy" list. I don't think he should have spent 5 minutes of his career in charge of anything more valuable than a carnival goldfish.

But the tan pants at least can go with anything and adapt to whatever you're wearing.

I remember this, but can't think of who the senior was....

When he said the only reason he took the Iowa job was for the money, I lost what little respect had left for him. If even if it is true, you don't say things like that publicly, IMO. Not only is it a bad look, but it confirms his complete lack of motivation on many levels.

JR's father was sitting in front of us and a couple people started a "JR" chant but nobody heard it. What little respect I had for Lick by then was completely gone.

I wish Coach Lickliter nothing but the best in retirement. While he was not a good fit for Iowa, he did nothing ethically or morally wrong to disgrace the University.

My sentiments exactly. Yeah, he did send Iowa hoops back to the Stone Age, but he wasn't the dislikable punk Alford was either. He was probably better off staying put at a smaller school or taking an assistant job elsewhere, but I suppose most coaches would like to prove their mettle at the highest level. Unfortunately for us, he failed (and most coaches do), but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes.

I say let him enjoy his retirement.

I found him to be more dislikable than Alford.

His offense was a disgrace to basketball.

So bland that even his conference's television network didn't know who he was...in his 2nd season.

I think my favorite Lickliter move was when there was less than 10 seconds left, rather than roll the ball up and try for a basket, we would hand the ball to our pg under the opponent's basket and run the clock out.

This was doubly frustrating when combined with "old Kirk" football.

So THAT'S what happened...we got Todd's incompetent brother Tim!
I see his brother occasionally when I run on the Monon trail here in Indy. Nice guy and understands why his brother isn't the most beloved guy in Iowa. I did tell him at least his brother isn't Alford.

Ummm that was Fran during his first year. Not a criticism of Fran, I felt at the time he needed to send clear messages to players about playing opportunities and the precious nature of scholarships.

I sure do wonder what his health issues are. I think they lead to his downfall at Iowa, I really do.
