People need to lay off of the haterade. We didn't finish on top, which is always the goal, but today was a great day at the tournament. It's tough to get your guys to keep their head in the right place, and I think our guys showed up today. It was a much better medal round than most of us probably expected. We'll be back on top. There's a lot of work to do, but I think we have the staff to get us there with TnT and Co. Can't wait for next season, and PROUD TO BE A HAWKEYE!!!

What a great job the staff did with Cory Clark this year. They held him out, allowed him to wrestle just enough to compete well at year end and win a national title.

Iowa coaches are terrific, and given the talent they have, they've developed many guys into highly ranked wrestlers. Still have the best lightweights of any team, imho.

Any talk of looking for a new coach is idiotic.

The one weakness Iowa has had has been in getting top 10 recruits. Beginning with the HS classes of 2015 (Kemerer) and 2016 (Marinelli), Iowa has addressed this weakness, and looking ahead 2017 (Lee, Warner) and 2018 (Teasdale) are looking good.

Remember, until Iowa got Kemerer in 2015 class, we had no top ten recruits since 2010. And surprise.... RS Fr Kemerer finishes 3rd in his first season, and with a fair amount of bonus points.

Top 10 p4p recruits for Iowa:

2010 Evans
2011 0
2012 0
2013 0
2014 0

Compare that to PSU:
2010 2
2011 2
2012 1
2013 1
2014 3
2015 1
2016 3
2017 2
2018 2

It ain't rocket science. And hopefully we'll see the fruits of the new recruiting emphasis in future seasons. Hard to see PSU not winning next year with 5 returning champs, but 2018-19 and beyond, we could see the tide turning.

Great win by Clark and with the exception of the disappointment at 125 a pretty solid performance. The sport will benefit by competition on a national basis. Good luck.

100% correct. The coaches deserve the heat for the recruiting lapse but in the end you show it is very simple as to why PSU has been dominating. Unfortunately there are people who still don't get it. If we recruit close to the level they do then we will have a shot at least. Improvements have been made in that area but you can't make up for the lapse overnight and results will take some patience. We also have not done as well managing the lineup to put the best team possible on the mat at the same time. Burak comes to mind. fosu, osu, Michigan and psu have all held guys out and had a lesser season in order to make a run with max talent.

I have great admiration for our coaches, and they deserve this thread many times over. They're quality human beings who care deeply about their wrestlers -- and that goes for every last kid in that room. Doesn't matter how many titles they've won, how many matches they've won, or whether they're even in the lineup. They truly care about each and every one of them.

Plus, they do things the right way, and their sense of ethics is beyond reproach. All Hawk fans can be exceptionally proud of our coaches, for the kind of people they are at least as much as their results on the mat. Sure, we all want to win Nationals every darn year, but I have faith that these guys will get us there, and we can rest assured that they'll do it the right way.

TnT have not necessarily recruited tremendously up until recently, but I am extremely optimistic for the future. They have proven that they can take guys ranked in the 20 range and turn them into high AAs (Gilman, Clark, Sorensen and Brooks on this years squad). And now we are getting the top 10 PFP guys as well. Kemdawg was the first in a long time and is already lighting it up as a freshman.

Although we probably will not be outrecruiting PSU and having a top 10 PFP guy at every weight anytime soon, if we can fill the lineup with 6-7 top 10 PFP type guys and fill in the other 3-4 weights with these #20 PFP type guys that work their way to high AA status, we can overtake them and bring home the National championships. The fans just need to stay patient for a little while longer.
