Our political system is broken.
Yep. I can’t recall a time ever feeling quite as pessimistic on the whole system. Allowing things like this just seems to reinforce the whole idea that we are well past our prime as a nation.

But what I don’t get is why they haven’t just been moving the key nominations through individually? I bet that that’s letting Tuberville “win,” but if it’s a national security issue, it’s a national security issue.

They tried that yesterday through unanimous consent, but fat boy Tubs kept objecting. I guess now they have to go individual votes, which is dangerous and further politicizes the military. The real reform is doing away with single members being able to stall appointees.

Yeah, I was referring to the individual votes on specific nominees. They should’ve been doing that but I suspect Schumer wanted to make this a political fight and highlight the damage Tuberville was doing.

I agree with you that the Senate needs to do away with these rules where one member can hold up anything.
