The MI UCLA and KS Nebby games have me hoping that Fran will think about trying to schedule a matchup with a top 20 opponent. Who'd you like to see?

Butler or Kansas seem like fun matchups; St. Louis looks to be pretty bad this year, but I bet Cook would like to play them.

Kansas is my choice. The closest elite team not in the B1G. Would be fun to go to a game there, and lots of Iowa fans could drive there.

Allen Fieldhouse is a really cool arena. The history, the students, and the fact that most of the seating is still the retro wooden bleachers just kinda ties it all together.

P5 teams I'd like to see a home/home with...

UCLA
KU
UK
Duke
UNC
FLA
Georgetown
UCONN
Nova
Cuse
St Johns
Xavier
Cincy

Not all the same year (obviously), but if they could do 2-3 at a time with them offsetting, that would be great. Example, 2018 play @UCLA, host UCONN, 2019 flip both. 2020 @Xavier, host Duke, 2021 flip both, rinse and repeat. Fill those around the B1G/ACC, in state schools and a pre-season tourney plus 3-4 powder puffs, should give the Hawks a tough schedule, but great prep for the B1G season.

We had some success there in the Tom Davis era. I remember how dumbfounded Jayhawk fans (and ISU fans) were when we beat them.

However I think playing Kansas is good in small doses......as in decades (plural and more than 2) in between.

Some teams I'd like to see:

Pittsburgh
Arizona
West Virginia
Syracuse
Memphis
another Pac 12 team
Baylor (because I want my revenge for the NIT finals)

I would say xavier and Cincinnati would be good choices in an area we've recruited. Pitt, uconn, and west Virginia would be nice home and homes.

Missouri
NDSU (kidding)
Marquette
DePaul? some team in Chicago would be good - I guess Northwestern counts
Notre Dame at the United Center? Would that sell well?
Xavier
Pitt
Creighton?
Villanova
St Johns?

You play where you would like to recruit. Not Lawrence.

Playing against and (hopefully) beating elite level teams is more valuable than where you are playing them. Beating Kansas in Lawrence, UCLA in Pauley, Cuse in the Dome, UNC in the Dean Dome or Duke in Cameron would have more of an effect on recruiting everywhere than playing a non-elite team in a recruiting hot spot you are targeting.

I say go to Chicago schools like ND, and to a lesser extent - DePaul. Then go to the hotbed of talent that is Fran's hometown - Philly. Lots of excellent schools there, Villanova, LaSalle, Temple. I realize they are not always Top 20 teams, but to have a presence would be good. St Louis and/or Washington In St. Louis seems like a natural, too. Marquette in Milwaukee might be smart as well.

Don't know, honestly, but a great academic school and easy W for an early season tune-up game. Same with UMKC, just for the possible KC recruits. I know the Jayhawks played them recently.

Another idea: why not play the service academies? I would like to see that every year instead of some of the other no-name OOC opponents we get.

Ok, found that Wash U is Division III. Bad suggestion. I withdraw them for consideration. It is a pretty elite academic school, so I ASSumed incorrectly.

You're forgiven, kingpin. You're spot on about Washington's academics though, beautiful campus too

I see no reason to add another home and home. We are already committed to 8 OOC games each year with ISU, the big four, ACC, Gavitt, and a 3-4 game tournament. We aren't Michigan State.

If you ever want to take it to another level, you have to play the big boys.

Translation, I'd like to play teams everyone else wants too play too!

Like to see us develop long term series with Marquette and/or St. Louis. Two great recruiting areas in which the Hawks probably have a low profile; although Cook gives us a crack in St. Louis metro area. Like to match that up with a girl's game same day same location as well.

Both cities are relatively inexpensive travel for both the team and the fans. Both recruiting and turnout benefit from the relatively close proximity of Milwaukee and St. Louis to Iowa. Both games would probably appear on an ESPN network or perhaps a BTN television broadcast and not the small audience webcasts that hit us six or seven times a year. Both cities offer some fairly fine dining and other entertainment for a weekend trip.

I could see two game series in KC and DM (Kansas), St. Louis and DM (Missouri), too. Neutral yet close to home for each.

Butler (Nunge). Cincy or Xavier. Temple. St. John's. Pitt. Georgetown (Garza). Syracuse. Villanova. Marquette. Wisconsin-Milwaukee. DePaul. Saint Louis U (Cook).

There's lots they can do here. Not exactly Murderer's Row so much as going to current recruits' home towns or covering fertile recruiting/Fran's old areas.
