Touchy subject here but do we want ISU to win as many games as they can?

Iowa has a cupcake schedule this year. Quite possibly the easiest of any Big 10 team. If they can’t finish with 10 wins, that’d be embarrassing.
Lol. I don’t disagree Iowa has a nice schedule other than @OSU, but the Big 12 is awful. Losing Texas and Oklahoma made it like a “who’s the tallest midget?” type conference. With ISU having an average to decent team this year, combined with a cupcake of a schedule, there’s no reason they shouldn’t finish with 10 or more wins. Regarding Iowa, I’m still sticking to my 8-4 prediction.

I am scared shitless over what Iowa State can become. They might be annual conference title contender, we will be lucky to beat them going forward.

Who knows what will happen in the next 20 years with conferences, etc.? There will be more changes and any team with a chance to shit on the Big 12 and leave for a spot with the Big boys, will take it. $$$. Iowa and ISU will fight like hell to get a playoff spot so they can get pounded in a meaningless first round playoff game. The talent gap will continue to grow between the haves and have nots. Seasons will be over in early December and for the bottom seeds, will always end in a loss. There is no way in hell schools like Iowa and ISU are going to be able to compete with the Alabama's, OSU's, Georgia teams when they are spending 20-30 million a year to buy football teams.
Central Iowa. Most Iowans are casual fans of both schools. If you are a diehard ISU or Iowa fan, as most on this board are, then you might not want your rivals to win. But the vast majority of Iowans only dislike the other team on gameday.

I would bet if you fast-forward twenty years from now ISU will have more college football playoff appearances than Iowa. You can call that table scraps if you want. I’ll never understand how fans can boast about the money their team brings in when it comes at the expense of wins and enjoyment of program success. Like, what is the benefit of you, as a consumer of Hawkeye football if the AD is bringing in more money?

With the Big 12 being starved for playoff attention, the more Iowa State keeps winning, the more I could see officiating swinging in their advantage as the season progresses. They could end of being the Big 12's darling. I don't care how good we do down the stretch or how much Iowa State being undefeated helps us.... I don't want to see their name, image, or likeness associated with playoff seeding.

They need to lose one of these next 3 games before their bye week.

Iowa has to be in the top 3 or 4 of the Big Ten to make the playoff. Iowa State will have to win their conference. I’m guessing more often than not, the Big 12 will only get one team in.
It's early but ESPN's projections have ISU hosting a game (the #8/#9 game) against Penn State. It also predicts Utah to win Big 12 and receive a bye as one of the four best conference winners.

They are gonna have their typical fall flat game sooner or later. One they should they don't.

Not if the Arizona game is any indication. Good grief they were bad.

Wow, it’s hard to fathom but Ames may actually host a first round game.

So each P4 team Champ is guaranteed a bye? That's f-ed up. There will be 3-5 teams more worthy of a bye than the big12 winner and a couple more worthy than the ACC champ.

Am I understanding correctly that the conference champions will receive a first round bye? So the BigXII will need to have two teams in the playoffs. ISU would have to finish 2nd in the conf and ranked between 5th-8th in order to host a playoff game. I find that very very unlikely.

If the Big XII does get two teams in, I doubt the second team is ranked 5th-8th.

Funny thing is, now that we have the 12 team playoff we wanted....there could be as much controversy as ever. Didn't see that coming. I don't think it's a stretch to say that the second maybe even third place SEC or B1G team could be more deserving than the big12 Champ. I thought Utah was a legit TOP 10 possibility til they choked.

OSU
Oregon
Penn St
USC
Michigan

Alabama
Tennessee
Texas
Georgia
Mizzou
A&M
Ole Miss

All I know is the clones better lose a couple. KFz and his crew screwed the pooch by letting them off the hook. No way they're one of the top 12 teams in the country

Yeah there’s always going to be controversy, but at least if you finish 5th, you still have a chance unlike before.

I wouldn’t be opposed to expanding to 16, 20, or 24 teams. No the bottom four don’t have a chance, but the bottom 16 don’t have much of a chance in basketball either and the NCAA Tournament is still the greatest sporting event IMO.

This year the SEC should have possibly three teams better than any other conf’s best team. They may have 5-7 teams better than the ACC or BigXII’s best team. Not a big fan of the SEC, but I’ll pay attention to see how that conference plays out and who gets left out.

Each conference has at least one winner, but technically every conference isn’t guaranteed at least two teams (unless I missed the rule somewhere).

Here’s the thing boys. We pissed away a game we should have been up at a minimum 17-0 at half and went turtle mode the entire 2nd half. All credit to ISU for not quitting and playing the game out. That’s on Kirk. You play who you play. They came into Iowa City and had their asses handed to them for a half and just kept playing, unlike us. Kudos to them.

Winner. Every year they’ve bitched about our SOS and most every year I pointed they were on our schedule and could’ve beat Iowa but didn’t. Iowa pissed away their own playoff hopes by losing a game they had a 94% win expectancy at one point. Got to live with the results.

I don’t believe any conference is guaranteed anything beyond the four conference champions being ranked 1-4. I apologize if I was confusing on that part.

I’m further assuming that most years, either the ACC or BigXII (possibly both) will not have more than one invite.

I was just pointing out that it will be extremely unlikely for ISU to host an opening round game in Ames. You would have to have two BigXII teams. ISU would have to ‘not win’ the conference. Then ISU would have to finish 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th in the final CFP rankings. It’s possible, just highly unlikely that all three of those factors play out.

Losing at home 20-19 to now #16 ranked Clown U (4-0) was embarrassing & is gonna haunt this Iowa team

These two FIRST AND GOAL situations in the 1st half where Iowa settled for a FG were killers.

Instead of being up 21-0 at halftime, Iowa was up just 13-0.

(1) At the start of the 2nd Qtr, with Iowa up 7-0, Iowa had 1st & Goal at the Clown U 1-yd line. On 1st down, Moulton lost 3 yds. Cade, on 2nd and 3rd down, threw incomplete and on 4th and goal from the 4, Iowa settled for a 23 yd FG and a 10-0 lead.

(2) With 1:30 left in the 2nd Qtr, Iowa had 1st & Goal at the Clown U 3-yd line. On 1st down, Cade threw incomplete. On 2nd down, Leshon ran for no gain. On 3rd down, Cade threw incomplete. On 4th and goal from the 3, Iowa settled for a 21 yd FG and a 13-0 lead.

And it looks like Clown U is on their way to 10 wins, at minimum. The only remaining ranked teams on their schedule are their last 2 games (at Utah, vs K State).

Their remaining 8 games:

vsBaylor
10/5....6:30 pm FOX

@West Virginia
10/12....TBD

vsUCF
10/19....TBD

vsTexas Tech
11/2....TBD

@Kansas
11/9....TBD

vsCincinnati
11/16....TBD

@ #18 Utah
11/23....TBD

vs #20 Kansas State
11/30....TBD

I’m delusional in thinking that ISU will have more playoff appearances? Explain your reasoning, then.

This site has an algorithm giving CFP probabilities. ISU is at 29% and Iowa is at 8%. I do think Iowa is a better team this year and this is their best shot to make the playoffs at least for a few years; mature team, favorable schedule. On the other hand this is just a casual young year for ISU. Why do you think their chances are so much better? Both teams are given a >99% chance of making the playoffs if they win out.
Why do you think Iowa is a better team this year after losing to ISU at home?

Currently Iowa State sits at #64 in total offense and Iowa sits at #65 in total offense. Iowa has one more TD than they have.

In state recruiting is the easiest reason to never cheer for clowns. Although I see the SOS reason to cheer for them, their appearance in CFP would be crushing to the Iowa program. Now if we beat tOSU, then I could be swayed to the "cheer for" side.

A bit early for these statistics to mean much, as they speak a lot about who you have played. Both are significantly higher on defensive ratings. Iowa's defensive has held up really well against the run, but has been more porous than expected against the pass. ISU is strong against the pass, but less so vs. the run.

The biggest scar on KFz's resume is all the games he's pissed away to ISU teams he should have beaten.

I am obviously not from Iowa just went to school there however I understand the deep hatred between both programs… I don’t have that deep hate for them and usually root for them if it doesn’t effect Iowa’s season but I would think as long as they keep on winning and looking good it would benefit Iowa (as long as they keep on winning) be more beneficial for Iowa?

As long as Iowa keep winning and they keep on winning I would have to root for them to do well and with the schedule they have I am maybe seeing one loss but again it’s ISU and they find a way to fook up when they’re supposed to win easily.
To get a toilet bowl bid. If you think this garbage team is going to the playoffs, think again. Playoff contenders do not go into games know they are going to lose and just hope it's not by 40 or 50 like Iowa is Saturday.
The Big 10 should be ashamed giving Iowa these yearly easy conference schedules. What has this program ever done to merit those year in and year out.
