He is tough as nails. What a game for him in this tough environment. I thought for sure he would miss those free throws. He's only going to get better, but we NEED CJ back asap for defense and his 3 point shooting.
The most encouraging thing is that his two best performances this year were in hostile road environments (ISU and PSU).
Having him and Bohannon together late in games next year is going to be fun.
Following in Moss's footsteps. You didn't hear that Bohannon is going to Duke to be their 8th man 3 point specialist?
Goodman’s an ass.You didn't hear that Bohannon is going to Duke to be their 8th man 3 point specialist?
As I've said in another thread, C.J. left at the 4:02 mark of the 1st half and never returned. Network cut away from the game and unless you were there, no one said he left with a limp and during his time on the court didn't show and evidences of a sprain anywhere and certainly not server enough that it could not be retaped so he could resume playing after the half was over. I'm no doctor by any means but it could be more server then a sprain, like a stress fracture....hope not for the young man and for this team. Losing him for the rest of the year would be another nail in Iowa's coffin....He is tough as nails. What a game for him in this tough environment. I thought for sure he would miss those free throws. Well I'm not sure we can go that far but he made somw very big steps thats for sure.Joe T always had Big Ten talent. Think he grew up and became a big ten player today
Missing CJ was huge.
Nunge was a bigger loss than most realize too. His length and shooting ability is a big improvement over Pemsl. I like Pemsl's effort on boards but he has no offense and is a turnover machine.
What's the scoop on CJF???
This is only true if Nunge was no longer a starter and took over Pemsl roll.Missing CJ was huge.

Nunge gives Iowa a 4th big and would limit Pemsl's minutes if he even plays at all in a game like this.
We had to play Kriener and Garza together a lot in the second half today, which afforded Garza no break and wore him down for a bad finish.
It appeared that CJ suffered some sort of injury around the 4:39 mark of the first half. Immediately after that, he began limping around.
+/- isn't everything, but Joe was a -15 for this game.
I'd like to have Nunge as a back up, but not a starter. The small lineup with Connor at the 4 is the best one overall they can put on the floor. It would be nice to have another big to replace Pemsls minutes but I'm not sure if Fran would have ever gone to the smaller lineup if he had Jack available.
JoeT is just what we need, the only downside is he's a freshman and will still make mistakes and that is expected. You can't tell me some of those drives into the lane anyone else on this team could pull off. Next year if everyone is back and healthy we could be a very good team. If we could get him to develop just a serviceable jumper that would be the icing on the cake.
I think this is spot on....
As to Joe T developing a serviceable jumper-I think that he probably will. I say that with some confidence (as a person who knows nothing about basketball) because his shooting mechanics at the free throw linen look really good. I think that means that he can shoot a jumper (or most outside shots) when the coaches get a chance to work with him......I think that means getting squared up and getting the rest of his body alignment/control in place and consistent when taking those shots.....his potential is immense in my opinion and I think that we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg.
Right now, in my view, Joe is learning how to corral his speed and quickness and play under control so that he can facilitate the offense and take advantage of his abilities.....where he can still improve and I think will over the next couple of years:
1) Game management....quarterbacking the team the way Connor and JBO can so that the whole team is positively affected by his play-this also mitigates the opponents ability to score or get advantages.
2) Improving his shooting ability which will open up the game for him and his teammates. I think this is more than just a jump shot....it's being an effective 3 point shooter...that would make him murderous...if the other team has to come out to guard him and then be constantly worried about him going by them and getting into the lane.
3) Understanding how to adjust to the officiating so that he can consistently draw fouls instead of giving up turnovers.
4) Being the guy that defensively causes other teams to have game plan around for their offense.
5) etc.etc.....I think he can be a game changer without having to be a superstar. By watching video and really applying the game plan to what the opposition does........learning experience is a big deal for Joe T...if he gets that experience this year (which it appears he will) and learns from it, wow.
As others have said...next year we should be loaded if we can retain everyone and stay fairly healthy. Next year none of the freshman (with the exception of our incoming center?) need to provide depth for this team...that by itself shortens the rotation significantly...maybe we don't need the freshman center to play if Nunge and Pemsl can stay healthy and play like upper classmen.
We have way too many scholarship players coming back next season, if everyone stays, the NCAA will start an investigation. I'd be quite happy if Pemsi and Till would quietly go away. We lose Kriener and Evelyn, that would be 4 scholarships that we could use for the incoming freshmen and with Bohannan returning, hopefully, since we're 1 scholarship short this year that would make 13. Fran is not going to take away the scholarships from his 2 sons. not going to happen....
Well we know Till’s ship is one year...it’s been discussed on these boards. I believe the reference was an interview with Fran. There’s a possibility that a player doesn’t return....and I guess it’s possible that Fran pays the way for one of his sons....have you heard differently or that's your opinion?
I'm guessing here, but if Fran was totally committed to improving the roster, he would be paying for his sons and not using scholarships to keep from spending any of his payroll...it use to be that siblings had free tuition but that might be an archaic policy....
Where do you find that stat?
I can never find it for college, only NBA.
Blair posted a box score in the lounge with it.
Ah ok, I wish they got that added to college sports reference. Seems like an easy thing to add.
I also found that stat very hard to believe, considering the game was neck and neck pretty much start to finish.
#3 isn't possible. Joe fouled out their big man with under 45sec to go on the exact same play he did two other times under the 4:30 mark. So 1 out of 3 on the foul calls.I think this is spot on....
