*****Iowa vs Ohio St (BTT) Game Thread*****

Yes. He's finally using his size and bulk to do things inside - on both ends - instead of just hanging out on the 3pt line to jack up shots offensively and standing flat-footed & continually getting beat on drives as well as rebounding efforts on the defensive end.
Yep. I’ve been a big critic but he was fabulous tonight. He needs to concentrate on rebounding and defense. Could be a Reggie Evans type.

The jump dribble wasn't good.

These underdog hawks are fun to root for. I thought we had it wrapped up with 7pt lead and under a minute and then they almost fell apart. Harding did redeem himself, Dix made great pass.
The jump dribble wasn't good, but it prevented a likely pick 6 if he makes the sideways pass......which would have been worse...

Iowa just needs to play loose and ball out tomorrow night, as well. Illinois is beatable if don't give up and roll over.

If they could shoot as good, or better, as they did in this one that would be pretty swell too.

(but not TOO loose, IE all those dang turnovers to start the game vs OSU tonight)

The early Fran lineups had Dimbele at PF and Freeman at center. Fran had Dimbele playing out behind the 3pt line as a stretch 4. He can hit the 3pt shots, but he doesn't have much other skills on offense. He is very strong guy. Playing him at center allows him to stay under the basket and rebound, which is something he can do. Braun has also flourished since Freeman went out.

I thought he had a clear path forward when he got the ball...but he hesitated, then he freaked out. All we need to win the game was not turn the ball over.

His shooting was good this game, sometimes he overdribbled. There were several OSU breakaway baskets where Pryce, Dix, Brock got picked clean for run outs and gave OSU 6 easy pts.

Most of the team played pretty well. If Harding had missed that 3 and we ended up losing, he would have been shredded.

Yeah Thorton was 8-13 and seemed to get an basket any time he wanted. Dix was able to provide some defense.

Looking at the stats, Iowa shot 55 Percent overall and 42 percent from 3. OSU was only 42% and 23 percent. Seems like it should have been an easier win. Refs sent OSU to the line more. There was ridiculous 2 step continuation basket by I think Royal and he got basket and foul. Dix does something similar, basket taken away and then he missed front end of 1 and 1.

Hard to believe OSU was NCAA tourney team. 17-14 record compared to lowly Iowa at 16-15.
Quad 1 wins

I wonder who Illinois wanted more tomorrow evening .....

An OSU with the 'being on the bubble' weight on its shoulders or a nothing-to-lose Iowa coming in after two big wins (granted, 4 days apart).

Payton needs to concentrate on 2 PT shots. For some reason, his 3pt shots has been off this year. Unbelievable number of air ball threes from a pure shooter.

We're probably a better team now with Freeman on bench. He was great for offense, defense sufferred, and Fran was doing small ball with both Harding and Threlwell and we couldn't rebound. We've been rebounding a lot better since then.
Freeman should continue to start next year, but with a real power forward. Not a Sandfort at the 4 spot.

Other than the really bad 2 or 3 turnovers in the second half, Harding had one hell of an all-around game tonight.

I'm usually not shy about bagging on him, but he was huge in the first half and then nailing the dagger 3 to end it.
I'll agree with this. But that turnover at the end.... boner killer.
