65.......Metcalf
74.......Burroughs
86........Dake
97........Snyder
125.......Tlagnew

I agree on a lot of those. 57 is the weight that is the biggest question mark. I am also interested to see what Gwiz does at 125. Wanted to say Taylor at 86 but watched their last match today and don't see how he can pull it off.

57: Ramos
65: Metcalf
74: JB
86: Dake
97: Snyder
125: Dlagnev

57: Ramos
65: Metcalf
74: JB
86: Dake....Don't see Taylor taking this but still a dog fight. cant count out herbert.
97: Varner
125: Dlagnev

57 - Dennis
65 - Meltcalf
74 - JB
86 - Herbert
97 - Varner
125 - Dlagnev

Predictions if Hawkeyes get upset

57- Colon
65- Kennedy
74- JB
86- Dake
97- Snyder
125- Gwiz

If no Hawks upset

57- Dennis
65- Metcalf
74- JB
86- Dake
97- Snyder
125- Gwiz

Kinda surprised with all the Dake picks.

What is everyone's concern level with Metcalf?

I think Metcalf gets it done, but it's not gonna be pretty.
Kennedy will be tough.
Than whoever is in the finals with Metcalf will be very tough (Stieber, Oliver, Green)
I honestly think it's between Stieber and Oliver for whoever gets in the finals.

Ramos - This weight is hard to pick. Ramos has just been so consistent.

Metcalf - Similar to above. Metcalf has been dominant in the US for several years. I have a bad feeling that this might be the year he is finally over taken for the spot, but I'm picking him to take it and hope he brings home that medal to close out his career.

JB - Duh

Cox - Going out on a limb here, but I'm just not buying into the Dake/Taylor hype at this weight. I think Cox will destroy Taylor if they wrestle. Dake will be tough, but Cox is just so big.

Varner - Things seem to be going too well for Snyder right now and he is still young. Varner has looked a ton better than he did last year. I think Snyder goes down.

Dlagnev - This is Gwiz's weight in the future. Last hoorah for Tervel.

Ok this is off topic but with the trials starting tomorrow one of my buddies from college (he's a goof fan) were arguing over if Iowa was the place to go to become an Olympic medalist. He said that they have had a medalist since McIlravy. I said there have been guys since then but I couldn't come up with names. Help me out here guys who am I forgetting that is out there?

Mike Zadick has won a World Silver since then. Bill Zadick won a World Gold since then.

The Olympics haven't come around that many times since McIlravy...

Iowa has not had an Olympic medalist since McIlravy. If you are judging it the way your buddies are, the places to go are Oklahoma State and Iowa State. Both have had 2 Olympic medalists since 2000 when McIlravy placed.

Joe Williams also placed twice at worlds since McIlravy.

You got to make the team to medal and Iowa's been awfully good at getting wrestlers on the team: Tom Brands (4 x team member), Terry Brands (4 x), McIlravy (4 x), Doug Schwab (2 x team member), Bill Zadick (1 X), Mike Zadick (4 x team member), Joe Williams ( 6 x), Metcalf (4 x), Ramos ( 2 x), and Mocco (if you want to count him) (1 x). I don't think any other school matches this.

Finally Terry Brands won a bronze medal at the same olympics McIravy did. So McIravy and Brands were the last olympic medalists.

"Dake by the Ocean" is too damm small for 86! No way he handles this weight. Herbert is quicker and stronger! I think Cox is very solid,if he handles the cut. Herbert over Taylor in finals. Taylor is too small also. Richard Perry is very solid also, and top four.

Taylor and Dake have spent quite a bit of time getting themselves big. I think they are every bit as talented as Herbert if not more so. Herbert is getting a little long in the tooth and has not looked particularly quick when I've seen him. Mind you he barely got by Ed Ruth when Ruth was still looking kinda lost at freestyle. David Taylor ripped Ruth a new one with a first period tech fall. J'Den Cox, Taylor or Dake here IMHO.

57-Coleman-That hurts saying this.
65-Metcalf-The only one that worries me is Kennedy. Guys that can score consistently on Doubles makes them extra dangersous(4 pts).
74-JB-I'm not sure why they're even wrestling this.
86-Herbert-zzzzzzzzzzzz. He'll have the guys on his side that he's beaten 100 times. Then Dake in the finals. Herbert is to smart to get put in crotch lift situations vs. Dake. I pray that Taylor can get over the hump with Dake. I'd love to see Herbert draw JDen first round to see what happens.
97-Snyder-I'm not sure where the rules sit now but a few years ago they made a switch. I think that if Varner wins it's still not necessarily his spot. I believe they have to go overseas to a tournament to see who places higher(same with JB).
125-Trevel-Please be healthy so you can bring home a medal.

Taylor will surprise folks, but lose to Herbert in finals!Herbert is in great shape, and just lost by a point two weeks or so ago to world bronze medalist Salis

We've had a pretty decent amount of success placing guys on the world and Olympic teams in recent years. Gotta make the team before you can medal.

Just got in today and am reading all the updates before heading down. Are NO Hawkeyes wrestling tonight?
