Big Ten Championships Session 1

Desanto Eierman Woods Caleindo all had their best NCAA finish with Iowa. The others (except Franek) haven’t completed a postseason. What’s your criteria?
Woods tied for his best. With the supposed coaching in the Iowa room i would have expected a title from him. Desanto regressed against RBY because per usual Cael outcoached the Brands. Eierman went from 3rd to 2nd. If you want to consider that some great coaching job so be it. I've already stated Caliendo has improved.

Not one title from all these high profile portal transfers. What's that boil down to?

I hope Buchanan breaks that trend. I clearly stated in my initial post that this season isn't over.

Eierman finished with a DNP

Woods was a finalist with the hawks. The only time he was a finalist...

Woods best finish in 2 years @ Stanford was 6th. He was R12 the other year. He finished 2nd at Iowa. Desanto went from R12 to 3rd. But yeah nobody got better.

aside from their placements. it is easy to see woods and parco made gains in there top game - both better at getting back points at Iowa.

Desanto is very obvious and shouldn't need any addressing his improvements.

Lugo become more polished all around and was such a defensive stalwart - did not AA before Iowa and was the 1 seed in the canceled year.

Eierman could probably be argued either way wether he actually improved or not - his style was unique

Buchannon has shown more tenacity at Iowa and that may just be a mindset thing, but that is improvement in my book

Hes got great offense and great speed sthletism like steveson but never pulls trigger. Look at his flurries at end. Hes in shape enough to do that all mstch like PSU guys do. Him and teemer back up so much.
If he’s got great offense, why haven’t we seen it in scoring points this year? He is who he is. And that is a fundamental sound defensive wrestler. He comes forward and presses the pace, but he has a limited number of offensive attacks.

DeSanto regressed against the man to beat him weight. Buchanan is the same guy he was when he came here. Damn good yes. The others no way they improved.

I said he has great offense he just scared to pull trigger. Top notch strength athletism and unreal quickness and hips. His mouth has confiddnce his brain doesnt. If and once he gets it he coupd be unstoppable. My point is he has all the tools at his level! Needs to work on confidence, real confidence not words and on line

Being an all American especially in the top 4 is really really hard. Winning a title is even harder. Wrestling is hard on your body. Acting like it's a title or bust every year is a fine mindset but it's going lead to a lot of disappointment. I guess live the way you want to.
Yes but regressed

Are semi finals only going to be split screen on BTN? I thought in past we got to choose individual mats on BTN+.

That’s like saying someone’s a great home run hitter, but they don’t have any home runs. They have great home run power, but they just can’t hit the baseball. Probably doesn’t do much good. Probably will be Babe Ruth if he starts hitting the baseball.

At this point, at Nattys, my guess is Ayala. Parco, Caliendo, and Buchanan are likely surefire AAs.
Kennedy could AA with the right draw.
Arnold and BK have blood round potential. Both are 50/50, at best, to AA.
Will need to get lucky.

I think Teemer MFF's out the minute he loses at Nattys.

Finishing in 2nd will be challenging.

They were all straight on shots. He didn’t create any angles or have any trade offs from a two on one, high crotch or snaps.
Essentially Gabe didn’t set anything up.
Not accurate especially in the third and OT. Numerous misdirection and various attacks and was close on a few but doesn't quite have the length or horsepower needed at 84 currently.

It’s time for Telford to go. Iowa needs new blood on the staff. Great Iowa wrestlers like Kemerer and Cass are on other big ten staffs. And after hearing that interview with Gabe, all these guys need to pick up a bible and strengthen their faith.

That's my take as well on Gabe, he needs to become a high volume guy and try to score 15 per match minimum. He'll wear guys out.

Just too many scoreless 1st periods.
Apparently thinks he can out hustle guys late and it hasn't worked most of the time in close matches.

Strategy is very puzzling.
If Kennedy and Arnold fight it out at 174 next year, not sure who wins?
Certainly potential for one to transfer looking from the outside.

Just leave it to this, you’re quite wrong on most everything else

I think he thinks his defense is his best attribute. And he might be right. But it's also a recipe for losing close matches just like he has repeatedly. In my opinion the best guys are those that know their defense is good enough to allow them to take some risks and expose themselves a bit more on offense. We'll see, he's still young.

His height is the biggest problem. Afraid to shoot and get pinned underneath.
At least against average or better guys.

Oddly enough, he's a bit short even at 174.

Is anyone keeping track of how many times the brands throw the brick for no reason. Has to be at least 100 times by now. Iowa is the reason a bogus brick throw should be a point. Has to be done.
You’re only allowed so many unsuccessful challenges numb nuts so the fact they keep throwing them must mean they’re catching mistakes.

The main reason flows event last week was enjoyable was no bricks. Was over with no drama and delays, spencer lost , how many bricks would brands have thrown. It's just a way to get a fake time out. It needs to be a point. BRANDS throws the brick for a fake time out over and over.

Did you see the time out brick in Arnold's match ? Brands really got him ready by making Arnold sit on the bench watching Ferrari wrestle the harder matches. Great way to prepare him for nationals.

Dude, take your whining somewhere else. Each team gets a finite number of bricks, but they get to keep them if they win the challenge.

What is there to learn? He’s not wrestling close matches on purpose. He can’t score consistently on good 184s. He attacked a bunch in that one. He doesn’t have the offense.

He’s doing his best. He’s at the wrong weight.
I absolutely agree that he's at the wrong weight; I've been on that bandwagon all year. Yes, he attacked a good bit. Lesson learned: he needs to attack more. He's too good not to use that speed as often as is necessary to get the job done. He's too good to fall to his old sparring partner from MD.
