Hope he is ok. Not knowing what happened that’s all I can say at this point.
There’s a few fans making fun of him on here… Did they feel the same way about Patrick?
Just says he said something he regrets. What could someone with known mental health issues possibly say that deserves kicking him to the curb?!No, and Caleb says what they kicked him off the team for, if you bothered to read it instead of using it to bash Iowa State.
If it’s a mental health issue and he said something very regrettable due to that mental health issue this looks very bad on TJ for kicking him off the team and not getting him the help he needs. He said in his statement that he said something he regrets that for him kicked off the team. He very much implied what he said was related to his mental health. Also says in his statement that he thought about ending his life.
On the local news, I overheard that he made some disparaging tweets about ISU and Otzelberger.I assume he wasn’t dismissed for having a mental illness? That would not go well for ISU.
Do you know what the issue was?
The hilarious thing is they could lose out, and ISU fans would still argue they should get a higher seed than Iowa because "Big 12 so tuff".Does the NCAA consider availability of players when making seeding determinations? It is distant history, now, but back in the day Cincinnati got dropped in its seeding when Kenyon Martin went down in the CUSA tournament with a broken leg. Caleb Grill is no Kenyon Martin, but his absence makes this team worse.
They are realistically looking at 17-14 with a loss to Baylor and a loss in the first round of the Big 12 tournament. They would be 2-10 in their last 12 games. I don't think that is a tournament-worthy resume.
There’s really only 1 thing that can get you kicked off a basketball team.
Hell you can bring a drunk guy a loaded weapon, block a car in, get your car shots up, and someone ends up getting killed and that doesn’t get you a second look but some words….
Like I said.
If the kid was refusing to get help you sometimes need to take extreme action. ISU cannot comment due to HIPPA. Otz is closer to that kid than just about anyone around.Just says he said something he regrets. What could someone with known mental health issues possibly say that deserves kicking him to the curb?!
Patrick got nothing but support from both staff & fans at Iowa…..as it should be.
If it were a mental health issue, why would he have been dismissed from the team. Shouldn't Otzelberger take a different approach to the issue?Making fun of athletes struggling with mental health is accepted here now?

You must be new here.Just says he said something he regrets. What could someone with known mental health issues possibly say that deserves kicking him to the curb?!

This has to be it.Short of dropping the hard R on a certain word… rather interesting what couldve been said to get the boot.
Did he tell TJ that his medium shirt doesn’t fit?On the local news, I overheard that he made some disparaging tweets about ISU and Otzelberger.
Or his haircut is ghey?Did he tell TJ that his medium shirt doesn’t fit?
Of course im just tossing that out there… you really hope that its not the case, but that just seems like about the only things that will get you the boot these days… and rightfully so. I really hope he is not playing the mental health card to score some sympathy points… if so total heel move. This has to be it.
That or he banged Mrs. whataburger and bragged about it.
Not only that he followed coach from UNLVHas to be pretty bad with such an abrupt exit. He played last night.
Disparaging tweets... jesus. On the local news, I overheard that he made some disparaging tweets about ISU and Otzelberger.
Probably…there were some idiots- chances are there are some repeat idiots. Threads are there - scroll backThere’s a few fans making fun of him on here… Did they feel the same way about Patrick?
Not my words.....Disparaging tweets... jesus.
My Cyclone buddy told me Grill is off the team effective immediately
They'll get all new wheels for next season.ISU is a shitshow right now. And that's after being a shitshow as recently as the 20/21 season.
Appears like the wheels are falling off the tricycle.
Grill had the meltdown in the WVA game that pretty much sealed ISU's loss.
Guessing there's way, way more to the story than will be made public.

Yeah I agree that's the thing. What ever he did had to have been pretty bad to be kicked off the team few days before the end of the regular season. Mental health can only go far as an excuse. Can be a contributing factor but can't solely lay blame on it because end of the day he's a 22 year old man, not some 18 year old freshman, and the bucks stops with him on his actions or what he says and does. seems like for most part taking accountability and believe has an extra year left so maybe finds peace somewhere else for his 5th year.Of course im just tossing that out there… you really hope that its not the case, but that just seems like about the only things that will get you the boot these days… and rightfully so. Almost all the comments on this board were in support of Patrick & his issues. As our resident expert, please provide examples otherwise. You must be new here.
Look at the time here dope. Nobody made fun of his mental illness, some were joking before his announcement, and after he was kicked off. Stop being so dramatic. There’s a few fans making fun of him on here… Did they feel the same way about Patrick?
Where? I read it. The statement linked here says nothing about a cause and certainly doesn’t imply a struggle with mental health. I agree with the others that it’s quite shameful for ISU to kick him off for mental health issues. No, and Caleb says what they kicked him off the team for, if you bothered to read it instead of using it to bash Iowa State.
