Welcome Tyler! Congrats to Fran and staff on having a plan for this program from day 1, busting their butts, overcoming naysayers & adversity, making us proud and landing exciting recruits including Tyler. Looking forward to rocking Carver!

Amen And1 Hawk.....I like this post a lot. I'll never forget the BB summer boot camp training he had 4 years ago I believe and the things he said back then about his plan which was to win today, the sooner and not the later....overcoming naysayers and too many folks doubting his plan or not reaching those goals. I love it for this staff because it's a great one and extremely happy for Tyler......

It's great to be a HAWK and huge congrats on your commit and your birthday too.....see you in PTL next summer!!

This makes the next one easier to get. Delighted to get this news. Hope he and AJ would want to be roommates.

Now we get 'em inked and go hard on 2017
A quality point transfer could make the 2016 thing perfect if one of the freshman goes due to playing time.

Where's EddieHaskell? He usually gives quality opinions on our recruits. More specifically, our misses.

Welcome to Hawk Nation Tyler Cook! I would have been shocked if he didn't commit after Saturday's football environment. I put myself into a 17 year old's shoes, experience Kinnick on that night with everything that went on, how could you not be overwhelmingly impressed.

I've been nothing but happy with The Franimal from the very beginning of his hire. Now he's starting to pull in some contested out of state 4 stars. Hot damn, I don't know how anyone can't be fired up about the basketball program right now. Can't wait to be hitting up Carver every opportunity I get while I'm still living in state. Pretty sure I'll be making some trips even if I'm out of state at this point.

Nice work Fran and staff and get ready for 15k frenzied Hawk fans Tyler Cook. I foresee some Thunder Doug-esque throw downs in this kids' future.

If you guys think the recruiting was hard work, watch the practices and early season games coming up for Fran and company the next few years to blend these talented players into a cohesive unit competing for the B1G title year in and year out for the foreseeable future. Ok maybe I am sounding a bit more positive than DanL even, but it should be fun for us fans for quite awhile. I for one can hardly stand the wait. Lol

I'm thrilled to have Tyler, but 2016 still could be a tough year for Hawk fans. We will lose 4 key guys who will have a ton of experience in Woody, Mike, JU, and Sapp. Replacing about 110 minutes a game is not an easy thing.

We will be very, very young. Peter and Jones will be the lone seniors. Tyler will help immensely but I suspect Peter will see maybe 22 minutes a game this year and we likely won't have anyone else back who plays over 15 (if that) this season. We should have good depth and talent, however it will take time for that to translate into W's.

Let's stay behind this group while they learn to play at this level. Realistically 2016 may not be a tournament year.

If we go dancing, Tyler may be in the league his "senior year"

this upcoming season is 2015-2016...if you are talking about 2016-2017...would suggest we see how things play out for the freshman this year as well as Dale Jones...kind if difficult to predict 2017 when 2016 is a month away from starting.

When Lester was talking about competing for titles year in and year out I thought some may be setting Tyler up for unrealistic expectations in 2016-2017 when we will be without the 4 I mentioned.

IMO it takes time to learn to win. I like Tyler and his talent, but to put those kind of expectations on him before he arrives is not setting him up for success.

All of our incoming freshman have to learn to defend at this level and I haven't seen much of a mid range game in the Tyler clips I watched. I don't want him to have to live up to unrealistic message board expectations. I agree with you it's very hard to predict what we've got in this year's freshman until we see game action.

The same is true for Tyler. I do think we've got nice talent to work with and I'm excited to get them all on the court.

While it's certainly not the centrepiece of his game, Tyler does have midrange that you can see on clips. Part of the reason he's coming to Iowa is Fran's tips to him for working on that.
I agree that a lot of 2016 will become clearer by who emerges in 2015 and that hasn't even started yet.

Ok I am back down to earth having taken a short trip into hat could be land but, I did by to watch quite a bit of the PTL this year and I do have high expectations of this year's freshman. They are talented basketball players as well as the best athletes Fran has recruited IMO. I totally agree with the upperclassman being the starters this year but I also see these kids getting significant playing time this year, with possibly 2-3 getting near starter minutes. You add that experience with next year's recruits and yes I do see us battling for championships in the B1G. The issue is as far as I can see there could be 6 teams, maybe more in the same boat in the B1G each year. My reasoning though for us is
Frans trajectory.. still rising and until proven otherwise, I'm sticking to that.

Your eyes at the PTL were not deceiving you. With the history Fran has of "finds", with the shear number of newbies this year? I'm as excited about this class as I am the 2016 class, with Cook.

But I understand what you mean by coming back to earth. The slight difference between a "hope" and an "expectation". I hope my instincts are right, that the last two recruiting classes, added with what we already know we've got in the further future? My instincts tell me we can challenge the big boys in the Big Ten, and make some nice deep runs in the NCAA's....we can, with a little fortunate luck that all teams need.

I agree with you...expectations before any recruit takes a step on the floor against B1G competition is somewhat premature....BUT...there are differences today then there was in previously years or decades ago...

first coaches are allowed to work with their new guys before school even starts...one thing this allows is for Fran to maybe see things in a recruit a little quicker than in previous times...and you can bet that in itself has a big impact in his future recruiting strategy....

2nd...these guys play ALOT of basketball nowadays...their high school, summer teams...there are not as many secrets as to what a kid can do well & what areas he needs improvement...

the only important expectations come from the player himself....

There is so much butthurt on other teams' boards, it's hilarious. And it's nice to be on the other side and not making excuses.

Yep, and this is the third recruit iowa has beatenout isu for (moss and wieskamp were offered by isu). I'm guessing cyclone fanatic is going nuts about this. Maybe florida and arkansas too?

Some on CF are actually acknowledging that it's a good get and that Iowa is setting up really nicely for future recruiting classes. Some are less knowledgeable and pretty butthurt, and some are delusional and convincing themselves that they would rather have somebody else.

Lester I share your hope and enthusiasm. I just don't want to see this board go all J.O. on the kid if he gives us 8 pts and 6 boards a game as a freshman and we are NIT bound.

Moss is a real x-factor that could make us a much better bet too.

Does anyone know how Tyler shoots free throws at this point?
