TYLER COOK IS A HAWKEYE

Glad to see that. I have heard medicaid is a big help for some of you. Good luck with your struggles.....

;)

lol, seriously bro, just go buy some season tickets and I will shut up. The Hawkeyes are our state investment. Everyone needs to contribute. And sitting on your couch and watching them play, isn't contributing. : )

Cook hit some turn around 17 footers at peach jam semifinals. He looked pretty comfortable doing it. Also an underrated passer.
We seem to have alot of guys that are willing passers and just understand how to play the game without touching the ball. That along with the fact that we have guys with multiple skill sets should make our offense fun to watch.

Congrats to Tyler on his wise choice! And to Fran & staff on finally breaking thru with an out of state top 100 whale! Here come the Hawks!

Some on CF are actually acknowledging that it's a good get and that Iowa is setting up really nicely for future recruiting classes. Some are less knowledgeable and pretty butt hurt, and some are delusional and convincing themselves that they would rather have somebody else.

I made my way over to CF last night for some laughs and they didn't disappoint. I love how they were trying to calculate who will have the higher rated class and arguing with each other on who has the better players. I couldn't believe how some of them knew our recruits and how many scholarships we have left to give over the next couple of years. I honestly don't think I could name more than 2 or 3 players on their current roster let alone how many scholarships they have available in 2017. I'm sure deep down they realize their little run is coming to an end, but like most Clown fans, there is a lot of denial.

I heard that construction crews are already reinforcing the footings supporting the baskets at Carver Haweye!
After watchingTyler's Highlight video, I can see why!

Prohm seems to be recruiting fairly well, and has solid coaching credentials. They are lucky the ISU president stepped in before TJ was hired. They may take a step back from Hoiberg, but will likely still be good. I think a good ISU team is good for Iowa basketball -- it boosts our RPI and brings attention to the state. We don't want a situation like in football where beating them is meaningless nationally, but losing to them is a huge embarrassment. Although we haven't beaten them on the court lately, we did at least win the last three recruiting battles (Moss, Weiskamp, and Cook). Game this year should be fun.

Lester I share your hope and enthusiasm. I just don't want to see this board go all J.O. on the kid if he gives us 8 pts and 6 boards a game as a freshman and we are NIT bound.

Moss is a real x-factor that could make us a much better bet too.

Does anyone know how Tyler shoots free throws at this point?
According to St. Louis Post Dispatch website, Cook was 60 of 111 on free throws last year (54%). Not a real strength at this point. Cook averaged 12.7 points, but Jayson Tatum (Duke commit and Top 10 player) dominated the ball on his HS team. Tatum took 464 shots and also shot 248 free throws. He had the ball A LOT. Cook attempted 241 FG's (made 64% from the field). Cook has 0 3-point attempts.

Agreed. Guys who are higher-rated than Cook who have gone to OSU or MSU end up not being 15 and 8 guys right away. Dawson at MSU (not a perfect match, but Dawson was a McDonald's all-American) averaged 8.4 points and 4.5 rebounds a game his freshman year. Averaged 12 AND 9 his senior year.

I agree. I think Prohm is a good coach and they will continue to field competitive teams, but he is obviously not Fred. I was more referring to the idea that Clown fans have built up in their heads that their basketball program is light-years ahead of Iowa's. They love to talk about how bad Fran is at developing players (idiotic) and how terrible our recruiting has been.

We've slowing been building our way back up after Lickliter and their path to success has obviously been a lot faster, but for some reason ISU fans like to act like our basketball program is equivalent to their football program (which is as bad as they come). They had a fun 5 or 6 years, but Iowa basketball is back and they know it, even if they don't want to admit it. I guess we shouldn't expect anything less from a fanbase that has been so starved for success in anything.

Completely idiotic. And Fran's player development is one of the reasons I'm so excited about landing Cook. I watched almost all of his televised games during the Peach Jam, and I was very impressed. The kid is already a stud, and he can develop into a stronger, more-skilled Olaseni-type player. I like the Elton Brand comparison (with less shooting range).

Not to break out my jump to conclusions mat, but Tyler is going to leave a mark and play at the next level.

My jump to conclusions mat is too legit to quit.

GREAT GET, but let's put this in a bit of perspective folks. This class doesn't put us above most of the B1G teams, it just means our recruiting class is now on par with them.

Still, better than what we have done in a long long time, and hopefully with Fran's coaching it will put us over the top.

I do think Saturday's atmosphere sealed the deal with him. Feel free to thank me later on that.

Thank you. You just raised the bar another level. Like the guy whose job it is at a track meet to actually raise the bar another level. Those guys never run out of new levels!!!!

But what does it take to raise the bar? Do you have to go to college to know how to raise a bar? Is the bar really heavy? No! It's a thankless task by some unknown dweeb who just likes making things harder on someone else!

You've raised the bar again. Great job! o_O

I knew you would like that. ;)

Just too bad I didn't make that bet with Bob, eh?

I will give you this, I am happy, i was starting to think Fran might not ever pull in a big fish. So, kudos to him! Definitely a program that is continuing to gain momentum now, and I very much like that.

Now, back too.....

The good news is, on the journey which discovered the new world..........even the barnacles made the trip. Just, hang on and you'll get there like the rest of us.

You realize some people on this message board don't live very close , right?

I used to have season tickets. Thanks anyway, superfan. Good luck on your welfare pursuits.

Had not seen this posted on this board. Enjoy!

He makes the basketball look small and the rim look low. Me likey!

Oh My. I don't typically watch much of these highlight videos and what not on recruits, and I realize these are High Schooler's he's playing against.......................but this kid looks REALLY GOOD! Some nice smooth moves inside with either hand (maybe the only ones he made all year, but they looked good!), seems to run the court well, and from what I can tell, has a penchant for shaking the hell out the stanchion. Yikes. Welcome aboard Tyler Cook indeed!

Great, great get! ESPN #51 nationally. High level 4 star with no natural Iowa connection. Great job by the staff!. Congrats and thank you to McC and the coaches and players that recruited Tyler. Congrats and thank you Tyler Cook. You'll love Iowa.

Nice recruiting class this year; very nice class. Two four stars (ESPN #51 & around 112-119), a high level three star (who might not play cuz injury, or might be really good) and the starting center on an AAU national champ (I think, it could be the intoxication of brief euphoria blinding me in a haze of Hawkeye heroin). That is a very good class by Hawk norms.

Then how come iowa ran maryland and indiana both teams loaded with 4 and 5 star players off the court?how come iowa beats ohio sate twice convincingly with the number two overall pick?

LOL someone mentoned eddie haskell;

First, it was Fran were unable to recruit African-American players. Under this category, Peter Jok and Gabe Oleseni were not legitimate African-Americans, according to eddie Haskell.

Next, Fran and staff could not recruit top level out-of-state talent. eddie was quick to rub Fran's nose in the Tyler Ulis miss.

Yeah, don't expect eddie to stop by any time soon.

This is really a big BIG step for Fran but to complete his climb to the top he will have to be able to recruit elite point guards and shooting guards.

One significant thing about Tyler's class is weight. We've been concerned about height with the losses of Woody, JU and (White and Gabe). The nice thing is we've got bulk. Our three bigs in 2016 will all weigh in as freshman in the 240 range (if they don't grow) just 5 pounds less then 7'1" Woody as a senior.

This should give us the size if not the height to bang with the MSU's and Purdue's. Oh and one other thing. Tyler has a 6'11" wingspan too.

I am looking forward to Iowa being able to throw some athletic muscle around. Wagner and Hutton have got that but probably won't get that many minutes this year. However, in 2016, they'll be joined by the "Bruise Brothers" of Cook, Kriener, and Pemsl. I like it.

How would you guys compare Tyler Cook with Ed Horton or Jared Cole?
Cook's bigger and more active than either Horton or Cole when they were at Iowa. Despite the fact that he sometimes needs better footwork, he's more of a low-post threat and he's already developed more of a midrange game than either of those guys had. He just needs experience to make it manifest.
