UC-Irvine @ Iowa Baseball

A win is worth 40 RPI points; a loss is (-30) RPI points.

A fair number of tough games for Iowa’s previous opponents.

EDIT: By comparison, the Anteaters would earn 41 RPI points with a win tonight but would only lose 16 RPI points if Iowa wins.

That written, #59 Iowa trails #53 UCI by 58 RPI points right now. Without factoring in the other games, an Iowa win tonight would cut UCI’s RPI lead to 2 points.

This series potentially sets up better than I thought for the RPI. Really this series is more about perception than anything else. Adding another key series win to put on the resume is what its all about this weekend. Taking 2 out of 3 would net Iowa roughly 45ish RPI points moving up into the low 50s. Hopefully the bats show up. Sounds like UCI doesn't have the offensive firepower to win many shootouts.

Looking ahead to MSU next weekend, Purdue gains 9 points with a win at home this weekend against sparty and loses 54 points with a loss... Iowa really needs to pull off a sweep here.

Maryland hosts Michigan this weekend and the Wolverines gain 28 points with a win and lose 28 points with a loss. A series loss here for Iowa might not be too bad if Iowa takes care of business this weekend.

On many levels, Iowa fans should be pulling for the Terps this weekend.

I just came to post Iowa’s other rooting interests.

Maryland over Michigan (RPI and Conf)
Illinois over Indiana (Conf)
NW over Nebraska (Conf)
tOSU over Minny (RPI)
Purdue over MSU (RPI)
Rutger over PSU (RPI)

Iowa could be sitting very good in conference play after the weekend. They have the easiest remaining schedule out of the top 4 teams. Don’t count out Illinois or Minny if they take care of business this weekend tho. The Terps will have a big day in how the B1G plays out.

Oklahoma State goes to Oregon State this weekend. Would be a nice feather in Ok State’s hat if they could win out there. Evansville, CS Northridge, and Hawaii could all help spike Iowa’s RPI with big weekends.
