Ulis

I’m ok with rotations for the most part, even as I do often wish he’d rotate in one better defensive player with most rotations. The thing is, a lot of Fran’s teams have gotten a bit lost and disjointed when the rotations are too big. This year, I think he honestly has 11 guys who can play (Luka, Joe, JBo, CJ, CMac, Nunge, Murray, PMac, Perkins, Joe T, Ulis), but he’s resisted the urge to get too loose with the rotations and I commend him for it.

Starters have played average defense lately, which is better than the usual. If they can be average in defense, the offense is so strong, there’s not much reason to yank them.

Joe w will not get drafted he’s not on any nba draft boards he will be back next season count on it

I doubt he comes back. You're right he likely won't get drafted, but it's not like another year will improve his draft stock.

My guess is he gets married then packs for Europe.
I’m guessing it’s 50/50. I think he is good enough to play in the NBA, but he’s not ready yet. Add a few things to his game. A bit stronger, better handles and more consistently hitting 3’s ((especially this) and he’ll get drafted. Question is does he get that here at Iowa. Europe, or G league. I’d ask what his fiancé thinks.

All good points.

For the record, I hope he stays. I think Iowa could be pretty good next year.

49% from 3 isn't good enough?
How many did he make against PSU.. I haven’t looked it up but my guess is 2-3 ?
Not good enough.
Look I think he can play regularly in the NBA if he can be efficient and hit 5-7 per game. I think he can if he works at it, this plus better handles and stronger, so he can put it on the floor and finish. Joe is a great college player right now, but that’s still not a good NBA player... yet

Looked it up, Joe was 1-5 against PSU, I think I wrote more consistently and what I meant was consistently on a game by game basis I guess

5 to 7 three’s a game in the NBA? Wow, that’s high expectations that not many would meet, in fact only Steph Curry hit that last year at 5.0. Only one other above 4.

Ok over optimistic but I still think his shooting ability is what gets him to the league . What are your thoughts about what he may need to do better to play in the league

wtf

I'm about 60/40 that he'll be back.

Did Makenzie Meyer get into Dental School in Iowa City? If so, then that prediction goes up that he'll stay for his senior year.
Well if she applied and didn't get in, the big Athletic donors were asleep at the wheel! ;)

Some people travel a lot in their occupations anyway, which keeps them away from their spouse. You find a way to make it work.

But if this is the case, I do think the likelihood that he comes back is higher, for sure. Some of these guys might want to stay one more year just to play in front of College Home crowds again before taking on "life". It will be interesting. Joe is certainly good enough to make a comfortable living playing Basketball wherever it is.

Joey W. is gone after this year boys. And, I don't blame him....he is ready to move onto the next phase of his life. He will make money doing what he loves and I have loved having as a HAWK!!!!! :)
He should probably start putting two good halves together more consistently then

1) He does not have very good handles and is weak with the ball
2) He does not shoot very well off the move/screen
3) He does not seem to be able to create his own shot
4) He disappears on offense at times for long periods of time
5) Free throw shooting has been suspect this year
6) Floor game can be really bad at times

He may go into the draft, but it would be advisable that he stay for another year IMHO.

Not sure what her situation is...

NBA is such a different game not all skills translate equally.

The thing about JW at Iowa is he's probably the number 2 guy on the scouting report (behind Luka). I don't think anybody is projecting him to be a star in the NBA, but a guy who can hit 45% of threes, dribble (drive) just enough to keep defenders honest, and play serviceable defense can find a home. If you can hit open 3s and play +D, you can play a long time.

Matt Thomas (40% 3pt shooter in college, best single year was 44% as senior on a team with 4(!) pros on it) signed a 3 year/$4 million contract with the Raptors (not all guaranteed).. i don't see any reason why JW can't achieve similar success. Of course, it took Thomas a couple years bouncing around overseas and G League, so hopefully JW could avoid that

I don't watch much NBA, but the spacing seems to be larger due to their Defensive rules, and Joe isn't going to blow by anybody, but there seems to be a lot less congestion in the lane, so his dribble drive game might just improve because of that.

Maybe I'm all wet because I don't watch much NBA, but that's my perception from what little I do.
