UNI Open

I hope you are right, but it's a different animal once he competes when things count. Your last sentence pretty much defines our posters. You won't last too long on this site without a sense of humor.
I sometimes push a little hard, but those that know my tone know I sometimes just try and push buttons. To date... PBS has always been a good sport.

For those of you wondering what Larry Early (Minnesota) looked like at the UNI open today. Simply put--Not very impressive. Lost to Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer of Iowa State in the semifinals (2-1) and then defaulted out to sixth place. He was nursing a heavily wrapped right shoulder harness, and really struggled with his offensive attacks. Obviously he carries some rather worthy credentials, but his health may deter his success at the next level. And no Freddy Stroker today as well. The Iowa-Minnesota dual late in the year WILL BE UGLY. Go Hawks!

My prior post was in NO WAY an attempt to DEMEAN or BELITTLE Larry Early or Freddie Stroker. The subject at hand was my own personal opinion in their early progress through my eyes. I have been privileged enough to watch both of these young men throughout their wrestling careers and am aware of Early's shoulder issue as well Stroker's knee ailments. Would I argue that both are among this year's best true freshmen? NO-But with that comes expectations. And yes it's early in their first year of competition, but neither of the two have CAUGHT my attention. On the other hand. MICHAEL KEMERER has and am I GLAD he's a HAWKEYE. Will see any of the these guys wrestle at the Midlands? I can't speak for the Gopher's, but I truly believe you'll see Kemerer.

Per D1Cw’s Top 150 Recruits of 2015 Kemerer was #8, Stroker #20, Early #21. Kemerer is no doubt the Blue Chipper and in 5 years when his college career is over we will see if he had the most success. I would not count Stroker or Early out by no means, they are talented. There’s a lot of variables and nothings guaranteed just look at Iowa’s 2010 Class #4 Evans, #11 Moore, #12 Dziewa, #19 Telford #31 Ballweg, #74 Kelly, #79 Balaosaro. Remember how high people were on Moore and Dziewa and how dominant they were in high school compared on what they did in college. I truly think Kemerer, Stroker and Early we all have successful college careers and I wish them all the best. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Sorenson vs Kemerer in the Midlands finals at 149. Kemerer is that good!

No way Brands has them forfeit! Also think Kemerer beats Sorenson.
If that actually would happen and BG is effective at 141, Stoll continues to progress... I think the redshirt comes off, imo.

Don't understand why it would be necessary he's got a top guy that can challenge for a title in Sorensen at 149

I guess I'm thinking maybe Kem is cutting a few pounds, with perhaps the ability to be effective(top4) at 157, and 2 months to make a splash.
I know that's a lot of "ifs". Most here, who know WAY more than me, think there's no way in hell TnT pull the shirt.

No way Kemerer's shirt gets pulled. Both he and Sorenson will be title contenders next year. I think Kemerer will be at 57 with Sorenson at 49.

I think that Sorensen will be 157 next year and Kemerer will be 149. Ironside made a comment about how incredibly strong Sorensen is and said if he was on full feed and committed to 157 he thinks he would be #1 or 2 in the country. Which is quite a bold statement to make considering Imar there, and Nolf as well. But if Ironside has confidence he could be a beast at 157, so do I. He is critical when the wrestlers are deserving of criticism, perhaps more critical than some on this board, and his praise has to be earned, by what he sees in the room and on the mat. Color me excited for this duo next year at 49/57.

I like Sorenson but he will have difficulty at 57 with Nolf and a few others. He may be strong but I think hes too short and the leverage of guys like Nolf will give him problems. I still think would AA's at 57 but hes better suited for 49. Kemerer is taller and will fill in nicely for 57.

i'm not anywhere close to the room ,but don't see kem beating Brandon. hope i'm wrong that would mean some pretty special things ahead.

That's the one I was looking for! Wish I was as smart as KWood.
Admittedly, I was a little hard on RRF, but he was too easy to manipulate. I still stand by my opinion that parents should not post.

I also had a run in or two with guy from ISU. I like to have fun with DBags from other boards/teams as much as the next guy but value the decent ones.

I have my doubts about Sorensen's effectiveness as a 157lber next year. He doesn't appear big enough to make a weight class jump and compete for a NC.

I can't agree at all. He's got good size and the leap to 157 from 149 isn't a big one. Sorensen may never be a truly elite college wrestler but he would be very good at either weight and a high AA at 157 with an offseason to grow into the weight.

I hope you're right as that gives the Hawks more options to a stronger team. But the ole eye test tells me I'm right ;)

Mrs. Kwood says I'm as smart as a 2x4..........whatever that means?
So you've got that as a goal to shoot for. Good luck....

If that happens... what are the odds we see a forfeit?
I recall a Midlands blog by Andy Hamilton in which "will Clark forfeit to Ramos" came up every ten minutes. I thought Andy was going to blow a gasket as he patiently explained, "Iowa doesn't forfeit for extra team points. Ever"

Next year I like Sorensen at 157 and Kemerer at 149.

So shorter guys can't beat taller guys ? Really now....

Imart may go up to 165 next year, just a rumor.

Sorenson is top 6 next year at 49 or 57 which ever he goes. I just think he has a better chance of winning the title at 49. I don't think he beats IMart or Nolf.

Marinelli did say 157 wasn't out of the question for next year. The fact that he is probably going 170 this year to make his team better probably will make that not happen. Is Marinelli starter at 65 next year? Who do we have there Paddock, Gunther, and Moody after Rhoads graduates. I still think we haven't seen the best Paddock yet. I'm surprised by how well Cooper and Rhoads our doing. Wasn't expecting much from them this year and they have been real close with some tuff guys. Looks like they have been working real hard to go out with a bang there senior year. Hopefully come tournament time they bring it all together and can contribute points!

My wife actually said one time that she'd like to hit me with a 2x4... whatever that means.

Cooper will only get better as the season progresses. I wouldn't be surprised if he AA come March. I'm way more optimistic about Cooper at 57 in March then BG or anyone else at 41 unless they pull Turks RS.

I'm not in the room but I don't think Turk or Ryan is beating Carton right now. The only reason we have been seeing Ryan is because Carton has been battling injury. I don't think BG comes back flat. BG just like Cooper and Rhoads it's his senior year and he wants Togo out with a bang. It had to have really eat at him last year seeing BS take 4th, when he had beaten him early in the year. BG getting hurt at Midlands and then BS beating top level guys sealed it for BS. If Brody had not got hurt last year he very well may have won the spot. Keep the faith BG will be he man at 41. If he isn't expect Carton if healthy. Is it the 29th yet?

Do you think he'll go all the way up to 165 after cutting to 65kg this summer?

This is pretty bold. BG has many more quality wins in his career than Cooper. But I do like Cooper and hope you're right.

I just don't know where that comes from. Sorensen is a good sized 149 pounder. He's generally bigger than the other guy on the mat with him.

And let's keep it that way.

I'm tired of all those posters the last few years complaining that we look smaller than everybody else and they want a new strength coach.

Kwoodhawk,

It would seem that I got my seems/seams messed up. It would also seem that you are equally skilled in both spelling and smart-assedness. I equally appreciate both skills................:D

Thanks Mom.......

Speaking of "smart-assedness" and Mom:

My general reply to somebody calling me a smart-ass has always been "Growing up I was always taught that it's better to be a smart-ass than a dumbass" dramatic pause "We were obviously raised in different households"
<drops mic and moonwalks away

You all are welcome to use that line but remember where it originated from.

Wayment...weren't you the one saying to pull Kemdawg's shirt?
