He looked much bigger than Lee. Lee got 2 takedowns and was in on the legs constantly, but Fix exposed him twice, scoring last for the win. Lee was unable to break him down from behind for the winning 2 with about 10 seconds left. The match probably would have been a major in Lee's favor in folkstyle. I'll take Lee in the remaining 2 matches
I think the 1st match led to results in the 2nd match. In both matches Lee jumps out with 4-0 leads after 1. In the 1st match Lee stays aggressive to start 2nd period but can't finish and gives up exposures to lose. I think Lee was trying avoid that in the 2nd match and force Fix to score using his own offense because Lee came off the gas until he was down and had to score.

Results surprised me but not the action in the matches. I knew Fix's size/strength/defense would be formidable obstacles but I thought Lee would overcome them. I was wrong.

Decent, not great showing by Hawks. Burak and Meyer looked good. Thought Sorensen and Brooks would place higher than 5th, and we need a lot more out of Carton, Cooper, and Paddock if they're going to be in the lineup--currently three holes with no indication to the contrary this weekend. Biggest surprise was Fix over Lee. Second biggest surprise was Collica over Tsirtsis. We needed a Collica performance out of a few of our guys and didn't get it. Just one tourney; good to see them competing hard...let's see how the summer plays out.

Don't take these results for more then they are. It's one tournament in May and freestyle to boot.

Collica over Tsirtsis in freestyle ok, doesn't happen in folkstyle.

My 2 pennies.

I mentioned earlier that I thought Carton wrestled well, and if this was folkstyle he might have won both of his matches that he lost, but he was just too small for the weight class. Makes me a little worried that he might get out muscled at 141. Cooper and Paddock need a lot of improvement if they want to see the lineup or contribute in a meaningful way. Hopefully this lights a fire under some butts.

Collica got to his legs and finished, don't see how it would be any difference in folkstyle. Collica will be a force at 149 next season.

Sorensen would have had another takedown at the end of the match, and Collica would have had another period to gas. Collica won that match fair and square, but freestyle isn't folk

I thought Carton looked like a pretty decent-sized 141 last year. Pretty muscular and didn't look small for the weight to me. I actually thought he looked bigger than Dziewa -- certainly had a stronger-looking build. I don't think size will be his problem.

Not to mention this was 154 with freestyle weigh ins.

Have you watched Tsirtsis wrestle?
Take away passivity and pushouts while adding riding time and an escape point. Advantage Tsirtsis.
Agreed. Collica isn't as good on the mat(top & bottom position) as the top 149 pounders. AA threat for sure, but not a title contender.

We were talking about Tsirtis match, as for the Sorensen match folkstyle wise I give the nod to Sorensen.

I didn't pipe in on the Sorenson match because it could of gone either way at the end. Yesterday the good guys won, on another day could go Iowa's way. lol. How about that Daton Fix, very few gave him a chance. Look at Lee's face after that first match, Johnny Ringo you looks like someone just walked over your grave!

Speaking of Fix, who are his college interests?

Sounds like his dad wrestled at Okie State, apparently some of the time he wrestled there overlapped with John Smith, so Okie State feels like the leader.

I was reading on the BWI and they seem to think they are in on him. With the wins he has, he should have quite a few major programs in on him.

Thanks. Sounds about right being from OK.

I will be absolutely shocked if he doesn't go to Okie State.

I was the one who brought it up on BWI, and I'm not sure that I would categorize it that PSU guys feel that they are in on him. Just a quibble, but over here it will get distorted.

I heard that PSU was recruiting him very hard. And also that it was going to be a very difficult pull. From a guy who is a big PSU guy and also happens to be buddies with someone about as closely connected as you can get at OSU. No, not Tognetti, lol.

So, I don't think anyone over at BWI is under the impression that PSU is the leader for him or anything like that. It would probably be safe to assume that OSU is, but that the PSU staff is really pushing hard for him in case there was an opportunity and has been for a while now.

BTW, on the OSU board a poster came on and posted that they were from Sand Springs and that a school in Blue and White was making him very nervous about a local kid. It was discussed over there, but again, the gist of it was that OSU is the leader, although PSU is making a very good impression on him. But he probably ends up in orange and black because there are a lot of factors in their favor.

Things can change, even Daton's Orange and Black colored bedroom as of now. Picture of John Smith winning gold and beside that picture of me (Mr #1 inside reporter). Cael is trying but has to make a decision on 125 this coming recruiting summer. Timing not right for Cael this early on Daton and John will take care of the elite in state young men. If he goes somewhere else then a few of us OSU fans will be on suicide watch.

The timing is fine - there is probably room for THREE high level lightweight recruits at PSU over the next few years. I'm sure they will still be pursuing him heavily even if they get two verbals this fall.

Even though you are probably correct, sigh, and John will end up with him, I think you would be ill-advised to go on that suicide watch should things go south (for you) with Fix. You really never know how anyone is going to turn out - a lot of PSU fans that were suicidal two years ago with Chance, are probably like, "meh" now about it (even though Chance will still be very good).

Everybody on here has anointed Mark Hall as the next four-timer, before yesterday Spencer Lee was the program maker, now Fix will be the uber recruit - probably along with Steveson. I'm willing to bet that 6 years from now, I will be able to pick 4 kids from the same classes with the benefit of hindsight and have a more successful group of 4. The odds will be in my favor.

Don't morph this into a quality vs. quantity recruiting debate (I'm on the "quality" side of that btw) - I was just throwing that in there to comfort Tognetti.

He unofficialy visited Ohio St and loved it from what I hear. Came away very impressed.

I took Fall's post to be describing Fix, based on the context of the thread. Hope so -- Okie State gets Fix and the Hawks get Lee. I'll take that deal any time.

Which 141 didn't look bigger than Dziewa? I honestly saw none.

Its kinda already been said, but I'll reiterate it. Fix won both matches, but I didn't come away with the feeling that he was the better wrestler. Lee is an incredible finisher. He is a takedown machine ( he scored four first period takedowns in the matches against Fix) and he'll be able to ride the piss out of guys on top. His constant leg attacks will create scrambles. In freestyle he gives up some points, in folk he stays on top and gets two. His amazing on bottom and most will have a hard time keeping him down. Lee looked noticeably smaller than Fix and was able to match him strength wise. Lee looks like he could still make 113. Fix has an unbelievable motor and incredible mental toughness. Remember his 30 minute scramble fest with Nick Suriano? I think Lee might have experienced a moment where mentally he wasn't as tough as Fix. Late in the second, he starts to fade and Fix smelled blood in the water and went after him. Lee probably doesn't remember the last time that's ever happened to him. Those losses will be the kinds of losses that help him in the long run. Lee will absolutely have the better collegiate career than Fix IMHO. Lee has 0 holes in his game in folk. Fix likely will have the better freestyle career. If given the choice, I'd take Lee all day and I hope he and Suriano become hawks. That combo would be better than any 125/133 in collegiate wrestling history.

I watched both matches and upon review agree with this 100%. I think it is exactly what happened, and as you stated, Lee wasn't ready for this.

Also, like how you put it "experienced a moment." One moment doesn't define you. Not taking anything away from Fix, but it certainly was an easier situation for Fix than Lee mentally coming into the match and during the match.

I agree that this should be beneficial to Lee in the long run. I imagine he will respond to this well.

My well placed source at Franklin Regional told me that Lee plans on wrestling 113 next season. The thing is that once he pins or tech falls his guy, he will stay out there for 120 and 126 as well. He wanted to wrestle 132, but his coach told him they have other guys to get on the mat.

Diceman and I agree on something? Quick check the temperature in hell!!:D
