UPDATED: tOSU vs Northwestern for B1G Championship; IU NOT Happy. The 6 Game Rule HAS BEEN CHANGED to Benefit tOSU after Mich vs tOSU (-30) CANCELED

Well, its not like ND is actually a member, so we'd better not hear any crowing from the ACC......
can you imagine if the B1G had not restarted? it would have been painful to see everyone placing & Iowa State at #6 in the CFP Rankings (instead of #7, since tOSU would have not been playing)

BIG lost more of its honor today. You don’t change the rules in the middle of the season, regardless of how silly or arbitrary they may seem. You wait until the season is over to re-evaluate them. Worst case here, OSU would’ve played Iowa or Wisconsin during championship weekend. BIG sold out just so OSU could play NW? The conference championship would have been meaningless to the playoff committee this year.

This season should be viewed as a bonus and nothing more. Who cares if it’s NW vs IU in the champ game? They made it there based on the rules everyone agreed to. Who cares if OSU technically doesn’t get into the BIG championship game this year? You preserve your honor as a conference and suck it up. Who’s to say BIG brass won’t step in and take Iowa out of the CCG in the future?

With regard to the playoff game payout, it’s not like the choice is between playoff money and nothing. Even if OSU didn’t get selected, they’d still be going to a high paying NY6 game.
The ADs and Presidents realized the 6 game rule was a mistake.

They fixed their mistake.

Its reasonable during a 100 year pandemic.

If there is an odd number of schools that can field a team, I wonder if they'll say Iowa has already played 8 games, let's let the other schools with fewer games play each other?
So punish teams that tried harder to stay healthy? That would be another good look ;)

In the end the whole idea is to get the 2 best teams to play in the championship game. OSU is definitely without a doubt the best team in the big 10 this year. To want to play in a championship game based on a technicality only shows you don't have the balls to go out and play for it. Let's play for it and earn it the right way. Not because of a technicality.
Honestly I hate OSU and would rather see Indiana play, but only because they are truly the better team.

One potential scenario, to avoid rematches, but allow some rivalry games to be played that were missed:

Ohio StateNorthwestern
IndianaPurdue
WisconsinMinnesota
IowaRutgers
IllinoisPenn State
NebraskaMichigan
MarylandMich State
it will be interesting to see the match ups & who gets to host.

There are many conf championship games that didn't have the 2 best teams and will be many more.

Based off of this year, it is clear the B1G needs a committee of AD’s and coaches to steer the conference with decisions that best impact the players, coaches, and teams instead of the ignorant Presidents and Commish Warren due to their dumb ass decision making to kill football in the fall then re-start at such a late date that wouldn’t allow for bye weeks to be built in when cancellations occur, not if they occur.

Regarding Indiana, they see the opportunity to sit this week and play next week vs a Purdue team that is not good and help secure a NY6 bowl game for them and also Iowa or NW depending on play off rankings to possibly get a NY6 game too.

All of this adds up to more money for the conference if it can secure two NY6 games and a play off spot to help offset financial losses for all schools athletic departments. The B1G definitely screwed up with their decisions but it also might help them create bowl game opportunities if Indiana, and Iowa can continue to climb up the rankings. It appears NW will be the sacrificial lamb to tOSU in the CCG and will fall to the Citrus Bowl if Indiana can beat Purdue and Iowa can win out vs Wisconsin and their opponent next week and be top 12 in the play off poll.

I would argue that Ohio State playing the winner of the Wisconsin/Iowa game is a more compelling matchup, and better on a national scale, than Ohio State playing Northwestern. If we are using the "eye test" as our metric at least. It might actually be more beneficial to their chances of playing in the Playoffs.

Why? Northwestern beat both schools.

Because Iowa and Wisconsin are better than NW. NW caught both teams at the right time. So take it and use it to your advantage.

Wisconsin and Iowa are always "better than NU". But why does NU have an equal or better record against both teams over the past 25 years? Hmmm.

The Road to Indianapolis goes through Evanston these days.

Because evidently the "eye test" is the only one that matters this season.
It was more than just an eye test.

The statement from the B1G:

"The decision was based on a competitive analysis which determined that Ohio State would have advanced to the Big Ten Football Championship game based on its undefeated record and head-to-head victory over Indiana," the conference's statement read, "regardless of a win or loss against Michigan."

So KF doesn't think Iowa could beat tOSU...great mentality.
KF simply stated he thought tOSU was the best team in the league. He's right. Would you rather he lie?

He never made any comment on whether he thought Iowa could beat tOSU.

Obviously, Iowa doesn't have the opportunity to play tOSU this year so he never said anything about whether Iowa would put the beatdown on tOSU, like they did in 2017.

Indiana is hoping for that because ZERO chance they beat Iowa.

I'm not sold on this. Indiana always plays well against them, in part because they run the type of offense that does really well against Iowa's defense. I've seen to many top 20 Iowa teams struggle/lose to terrible Indiana teams too many time to ever discount them. This year they are actually good.

Lol yeah Northwestern's only goal is to play spoiler to Wisconsin and Iowa, and if they get into the BTCG as a bonus, they'll take it.

They don't have realistic expectations of beating Ohio State. Not like Iowa and Wisconsin do.

That's why you're viewed as annoying a**holes. You're more about taking others' chances away from them, in the process of helping yourselves, as opposed to just strictly trying to break through as a top team in this conference.

I know this because Wisconsin does the same thing to Iowa. They can't beat Ohio State either, but they would rather run the West and be content just playing for the BTCG so long as they get their win quota and beat their rivals.

Iowa is not like either of you. And that's why we're better for it, even without the success.

Deal with it and enjoy your beatdown next week that your team is just happy to be there for. :D
