The BTN is way more entertaining. These announcers have no clue what is happening. It's like my wife and her friends trying to explain the match.

I wasn't able to start watching until 157, but I finally had to mute it before Brooks' match.

AM had, I believe, four takedowns from the top position!

It got off to a great start when Gilman got a TD, then after OB he signaled optional starting position and cut the guy. So the announcer says, "Gilman is so explosive on bottom he gets out immediately for an escape!"

And here I thought this thread was going to trash Vall.

I'm going to have to rewatch with sound...

Any "illegal fist to the back" calls tonight? That NE BTN broadcast from a few years ago was one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. It as pure comedy gold.

I like the fact that BTN gives students the opportunity to do live sports commentary. It seems like a fantastic educational opportunity for the kids, and we get to see some B1G wrestling at the same time. I'm alright with that. But that one broadcast had me busting a gut the whole time. Those of you who saw it know what I'm talking about. It was a classic. No phrase from a play-by-play guy will every match the "illegal fist to the back". That's the stuff of legends right there.

When the commentators start referring to wrestlers as "players", pay attention -- it might be really, really good.

All the BTN plus meets I've watched have had former alumni wrestlers commentating analysis except ours. This BTN play by play announcer sounds like she's reading everything off of Wikipedia.
I'm all for getting the students involved but maybe have them do the play by play only and have a former athlete of the sport do the analyst.
My favorite commentators for these BTN plus meets is probably JD Bergman at the OSU meets. He knows excellent insight about what's happening and is fun and genuine.

Lol at girl reading from wiki - that was exactly my thought.

About halfway through the dual, my annoyance at the BTN commentary turned to amusement and then to hilarity. They missed that the Hawks forfeited 197, even though Rotert went to the middle of the maptand got his hand raised. Then Stoll came out for Iowa, and the announcers were on the verge of identifying Stoll as Burak and there was about 30 seconds of on-the-air confusion which had me and my son giggling. In fairness to the announcers, they are just kids and I think the situation is comparable to my being asked to provide color commentary for a water polo match. It's like one of those dreams where you are seated naked before a piano at a fully-packed Carnegie Hall and you keep telling yourself, "Think! Think!," but no ideas are forthcoming.
