How fast is VandeBerg? I hear the commentators do the talk of "he isn't that fast but runs good routes"...yada, yada...but when he plays and especially when he catches it...he seems very fast...

Any chance he is NFL material after another year with CJ?

My wife, being dutch, likes to follow him and cheer for him when she watches...

He has made some clutch catches and seems to be nails on 3rd downs...

Hope his future is bright...

Probably not 'elite' enough for some...

[Sarcasm fully intended,]

He don't pass the "eyeball" test! o_O sarc......sarc......sarc!!!!!

I think he's a great player, don't know about the next level, we shall see!!!! good chance

I think because of his size you have to compare him to other slot receivers that play in the NFL. If you look at Edelman/Amendola/Welker type receivers (yes, white slots), those guys aren't tall, but they are thick and exceptionally quick. At this point I don't worry about VB's speed, he appears quick enough, rather than his size. Is he thick enough to take the abuse that a slot receiver takes? At this point I would say no but that doesn't mean he can't increase muscle. The only other question is does VB have breakway speed? He has the ability to get open deep, but has he run away from anybody this season (I'm just asking as I am not sure)?

I remember seeing coaches comments on his speed stating he was one of the faster players on the team. I think he is fast but he is more effective on the underneath stuff.

I am impressed with him...with all of the great things CJ has done to bring this team to 10-0...he does seems to miss quite often on the deep passes, limiting VDB and others' ability to make a big play. I would guess this is mostly due to the groin and leg injuries...healthy legs are needed for such long accurate throws.

They eye test for me is...he really seems to run good routes, catches the ball...and can move on out.

Next year...perhaps will be even better for him and CJ...who really seem to work well together.

He also seems to love to block...which is underrated for WR's...

He isn't elite...yet...but I want him to be...

Fun to watch how a QB with talent...makes everyone better..

All that from watching games on television....

... you really do have an 'elite' opinion of yourself!

Carry on.

Wait a second. I think your attack is unnecessary. Maybe your the one that has the elite opinion of himself.
Isn't that what coaches do! They watch film on football players and try and evaluate talent. Isn't watching and looking at the games you tape from TV and being able to play them in slow motion the same thing!

5 seems to have some issues...that he is projecting onto me...very common.

Yah, those QBs who spend hours in the film room sure can't win...

Not referring to QBs in any manner here, Rev... and you already know that. Anyone that has read any of your previous posts also knows what I refer to when I interject with an 'elite' comment.

Carry on.

I am not sure why my opinion that Iowa BB needs an elite PG bothers you...

Iowa FB has been lifted by some pretty elite QB play...the same would happen if elite play at the PG would be part of the BB team...

This is the place to share views and opinions...right 5?

The kid runs very sharp routes. In football you can be a full two feet slower then a DB in speed but by running a very sharp route you can be a full foot faster then that same DB on the football field.

While you expound this time and again, that does not make it a truth. YOU are not qualified anymore than I or any other fan to make those determinations.

Iowa has a current PG that is exceptional in numerous ways. Simply because it is cute to you to interject YOUR 'not elite' opinion in nearly every single thread is trite and foolish. Stating such an opinion once might be understandable. Going on and on and on is embarrassing... for you.

Go to a game. Visit with said PG. You very likely will come away with an entirely different opinion. If not, then that would be YOUR problem, not his.

Bottom line here is you and some of the other 'fans' that sit back, watch a little tv and become instant talent evaluators are old and worn out. To me, at least, your opinions mean little if not nothing at all.

easily quick enough...fast enough but not breakaway speed...runs very good routes...needs to get stronger and also lets the ball get too close to his body when catching it...but overall an above average and very much needed WR for the Hawkeyes this year...

Vandeberg plays a lot like Julian Edelman or Jordy Nelson or Danny Amendola. Or maybe Wes Welker or Tim Dwight or Eric Decker. No, really more like Brandon Stokely or Don Beebe. Sort of a modern day Lance Alworth or Don Maynard or Raymond Berry.

But most definitely nothing like Marvin Harrison or Antonio Brown or Odell Beckham, Jr.

CJ has missed more then his share of deep passes recently including Saturday night. He did throw a beautiful deep ball to VDB on the sideline in the first quarter that VDB seemed to get tided up on. There was a defensive holding away from the play that allowed the drive to roll on, but it was a gorgeous throw on the run.

I would be happy with an elite PG along with an elite player at every position. Nothing wrong with that.

Yes, he is good because he is having a very good week of practice. MVB may or not play at next level, but he is a very nice fit in our offensive scheme and seems to have great chemistry with CJ. It almost always seems like a successful offense has that QB-WR connection as an intangible. Brady to Edelman or Rodgers to Nelson in NFL are prime examples. Keep up the good work MVB
