Just because somebody accepts a speaking fee doesn't suddenly mean they are in the pocket of whatever group paid them to speak. If I paid Bill Gates to speak at a school I suddenly wouldn't expect him to give me a job.
As for the specific example you provided, sounds like they wanted somebody who knew what the hell they were doing to be in charge of their research departments and was compensated for her work. Not sure how this means she skewed her views at all. Not to mention, if she had she would have been called out by dozens of other people.
