Victor Voinovich transfers to Iowa

Sorry, but I disagree with most of the sentiments expressed here.

If developing fine young men were the goal, Zalesky would be in his 29th season as head coach.

The goal is to win NCAA titles.

And hopefully develop some positive character traits like determination and perseverance. But as a consequence of attempting to achieve the first goal.

Otherwise, skip the wrestling part and go work in a soup kitchen or pediatric cancer ward. It's a much faster way to develop character.

The point expressed, I presume, is that the goal should not be winning at all costs. But nobody disagrees with that. If you think that's what we've been doing, then, man, we really suck at it.

The reason we haven't won enough championships isn't because we haven't recruited enough upstanding young men. We've got a room full of them, and none of them can seem to win a title. (Except the guy we kicked out for not being upstanding enough.)

It may in fact be because we've been too narrow in our recruiting focus. It could be because we're not great at recruiting in general.

I'm bummed that we lost Chittum. I'm bummed that it was due to the Ferraris. I'm bummed that Tom couldn't find a way to work things out, which is what he gets paid to do. Or maybe he gets credit for standing his ground.

Maybe we touched the stove with the Ferraris and got burned. But I don't buy the sweeping Sodom and Gomorrah argument. This seems more like a conflict of wills between two stubborn men than an act of God to punish the wicked.

Refresh my memory about who we kicked off the team who went on to be a national champion??

And just for accuracy, Seth had the same opportunity to work his way back onto the team that Logan Ryan did. He chose to leave, Ryan worked his way back on to the team and started for us at Grapple on the Gridiron the following fall. Us having Clark for 2 more years at his ideal weight may have played a factor, who knows.
