"Volunteers finalizing deal to make Greg Schiano head coach"

Schiano was one of the assts that loooked the other way in the Sandusky pedophile deal. Lots of people are against this hire

You sure about that?

Are you sure about that after reading this, from the USA Today, which calls Tenn fans a bunch of cry babies?

The purported reason behind Tennessee fans’ anger has to do with his time as a 25-year old assistant just starting his career at Penn State. Schiano’s alleged involvement in the Jerry Sandusky scandal is laughably thin. In a 2015 deposition of former Penn State assistant Mike McQueary, he said that he had “briefly” spoken with former Penn State assistant Tom Bradley about rape allegations involving Sandusky.

McQueary went on to say that Bradley had told him another assistant — purported to be Schiano, who had left Penn State nine years before McQueary started there — had once claimed to see Sandusky doing something inappropriate, a claim Schiano and Bradley both denied.

So, in other words, a non-specific claim based on third-hand hearsay that was never followed up on or investigated by prospectors in the case is literally Schiano’s only connection to the Sandusky case — and it allegedly happened when he was a low-level staffer just starting out in the business.

But by the time #VolTwitter got hold of it, the facts didn’t matter. The narrative had turned into something about Schiano enabling Sandusky’s crimes, which — let's be honest here — comes across as less than genuine concern over his character and more about finding a reason to bash a hire they didn’t like.

What Tennessee fans don’t understand is that their behavior Sunday hurt the program. If Schiano and Tennessee indeed finalize an agreement (it hadn’t happened by 7 p.m. ET on Sunday), it’s a marriage that starts out on terrible footing. If they go their separate ways, Tennessee’s fan base will forever carry the stain inside the profession of being crybabies for whom nothing is good enough.

bhawk24bob: "A&M isn't a top 10 job, Florida might be #10. The ability to win a NC has to at least be part of a job being top 10 -

Michigan
Ohio State
USC
Notre Dame
Alabama
Texas
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Nebraska
Then its one of LSU, Florida, Washington, Miami, or Penn State imo"

I’d put 4 of those other 5 above Nebraska and Tennessee currently.

Everyone would, not to mention UCLA, Georgia, Clemson, and Florida State as well. Tennessee isn't even a top 15 job anymore, much less top 10. It's BARELY even top 20.

Schiano is about the right level of hire, their fans are just imbeciles. They are actually dumb enough to think they have a shot at someone like Gruden. Schiano was on Michigan's short list if they hadn't been able to get Harbaugh. Rutgers was garbage when he took it over, the preceding coach went 11-44. Yet Schiano owns 5 of the 6 bowl victories in Rutger's entire 158 year football history. Ohio State had 8 Defensive players drafted in the first two rounds just in the last 2 years while Schiano was D-Coordinator, he might have actually been able to take Butch's talent and done something with it.

WBBM in Chicago reported a little after 900pm central time that UTenn had backed out of the deal due to the negative publicity.
