So it was sensational reporting when he threw the chair across the basketball court? How about when he choked one of his players? I suppose you would also call it fake news. I don't know him personally but I do recognize an asshole when I see one.
Ask his former players about how he has given his own money to help them in real times of need. Ask about the time he has given to organizations that help underprivileged children. Somehow that chair issue doesn't seem so important in the whole scheme of things. Now, I'm sure that Knight was not everyone's favorite mentor and I would expect that some of his former players may think that they have issues but every coach has some of those. I had coaches that I didn't like but that doesn't mean that they were bad people. I met Knight on several occasions where he was present at a trade show or was a speaker at major fund raisers. I generally contributed enough to gain VIP access in hospitality rooms at those events. And, once I was at a golf course near Martinsville and Knight filled out a foursome. The man is eloquent, funny as hell and powerful just in his presence. He is not evil. He is not a bad person. He is just an old school coach who is sometimes impulsive.

Please explain how Craig Neal really helped him become a significantly better coach when Neal has not been able to achieve the success at New Mexico that Alford had and Alford has achieved even more success, without Neal at UCLA?

Some people are really, really good at getting coffee and getting others sh*t together and organized. Usually these same people are ineffective as the boss.

I think Boy Wonder ends up in Bloomington ... UCLA is having a great season but most Bruins fan associate that with Lonzo Ball. And just last season many of them wanted him gone ...

Boy Wonder is magical at coming out smelling like roses. He knew Iowa was going to fire him after another flat season so he took the New Mexico job and tried to convince every one that coaching the Lobos was a step up ... He then did well in a conference where the competition was nothing like the big stage of the Big 10 ... He ends up in UCLA ... Quickly they want him gone .. Star players lands on campus ... and Boy Wonder is a magician ... He knows he is on thin ice at UCLA ... UCLA will do what it can to move Boy Wonder along with its buyout clause ... and Indiana's AD will welcome home a coach he wants with deep ties to the University.

Many coaches (as well as fans) step up to the plate when former players have issues or trouble....the Kenny Arnold event this year is just one example. Many coaches (including Alford & Knight) do charity work for multiple events. Obviously...they (Alford & Knight) are no different. Many coaches and teammates do such with not a lot of publicity.

I dont think the fact that Knight was issued a zero tolerance & eventually was fired for physically abusing a player (those videos get alot of people dont they) ... should totally reflect the good that Knight did or has done. Impulsive during games is one thing..and I agree he is not a bad person he just did a few bad things...which led to him getting fired.

Seems like a lot of risk for Indiana. What if he sucks? Going to fire the state hero?

Alford's issues at Iowa were more off the court. He mishandled the pierce situation and was a total jerk to the business community. He believed he was entitled to everything including free use of lawnmower, free insurance and very cheap home remodeling work to name a few. Hopefully, he has grown up some. But I am guessing Bloomington maybe a little more like Iowa City than Towns he experienced in New Mexico and UCLA so we shall see if he takes the the IU job. competing with MSU, Kentucky, Louisville and Purdue in that neighborhood may be interesting too
I agree he handled the Pierce situation wrong, but all the other crap I have heard on here since he left comes from people who say I heard this from someone, or someone told me this! Please give me some proof it really happend. They even said he was in the hot-tub with some broad. Darn we seem to make up alot of crap. Thats it. Jump on me I can take it . I`am an old -fart. Thanks....

Yeah, Dave Bliss has his supporters too. One of them is Bob Knight:)

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/col...loyal-honorable-coach-or-vindictive-egomaniac

Depending on which friends, former associates and players you believe, Mr. Bliss is magnetically charming, loyal, honorable and even self-deprecating. Or he is a vindictive, verbally abusive egomaniac who "scared the pooky" out of his Baylor secretary, Laura Collins-Hays.

...

Mr. Knight once called Mr. Bliss the smartest assistant he ever had, no small compliment, considering Duke University coach Mike Krzyzewski also served under Mr. Knight.

Well, it appears that New Mexico was ,indeed, a step up and it was Alford who made that happen. New Mexico was down when he arrived and he left them as a highly ranked program in a conference that, at the time, was ranked in the top 3 or 4. Now, after Alford has left and the team was given to Neal who many attribute any success that Alford has had, New Mexico has fallen over the last 3 years and UCLA has been successful.
Alford left Iowa because of the way Barta handled his ''ultimatum'' in such a public manner. I'd have said screw you, too, and left. What did Barta get for us by flexing his muscles to appease the fans? Todd Licklighter, the worse coach in Iowa basketball history who staffed his team with the least experienced ass't coaches ever. And, you may want to check out UCLA's roster. Yes, Ball is a certified star, but they have more than one player and there are the 17th, 24th, 34th, 61st and the 90th ranked players coming in next year along with Ball's brother.

Why would Iowa fans care? He was already here and he wasnt any better at Iowa then the coach he replaced or the current one.
Because of the talent Indiana has coming back Hawk fans should care. If he does half as good as Crean and that shouldn't be hard he will bring Indiana back for next year at least. After that it's anybody's guess.

Didn't care for Alford. For personal reasons. In fact, I stopped watching Iowa basketball, or following it at all, for the last three years he was here. I'm not going to say why, so nobody has to say I gave a "second hand" story or some such thing. And, I don't give a rats rear if someone else thinks his basketball success means something important, or if he shows up for some charity stuff. I don't care what anybody else thinks about him at all.

But I'll say this, there are plenty of people who dislike the guy. And there are one heck of a lot more Hawkeyes fans that don't post on here as compared to those that do. We don't hear from them. Some might have left like I did, and never come back. If anyone thinks he didn't leave his "mark" in Iowa City that's up to them, but you can't deny that many people don't like the guy.

I returned to follow Iowa when Lickliter arrived. And I'd take him again over Alford in a second. Yeah, I like winning, but some things are more important.

You want to believe I had a reason, or not, that's up to the people reading. But since I've been on this board I think I've shown a pretty good appetite for Iowa Basketball. And I think folks who read my stuff know I support the team and coach. So you imagine the kind of thing it took for me to give it up.

The thing I found out, was I could live without being a "fan". I'll never be as connected in spirit to a sports team again. But if a coach gets decent kids, decent students, and is a decent enough person in the community, I can still enjoy the GAME on the court.

That's just how I see it, again, for my own personal reasons. I....don't....like the guy and I doubt he will ever change where it counts.

you are right to a degree...people do repeat and to be honest the hot tub stuff, etc... is meaningless in my opinion..whether true or not.

I do believe Pat Harty when he tells his story of Pierre Pierce

You continually ignore Alford's 5 losing B1G seasons in 8 years at Iowa...61-67...are we suppose to be happy about that?....thats why Steve left..he had not lived up to expectations...he left because he had failed to rise to the level he promised when he came here... Maybe he is a better coach today.

Indiana will probably get a decent coach anyway. I dont think Alford is suddenly Coach K because Balls old man recruited UCLA. Just my opinion. Id be more impressed if they got Brad Stevens. Anyway, Indiana becoming elite again will have zero affect on Iowa taking it to another level. just my opinion again.

Brad Stevens at IU is probably game over for the rest of the B10, but that's not going happen. He's an NBA guy.

I hope it doesnt as a Celtics fan. I think Alford is a decent coach and would do fine if hired by Indiana. I just dont think it would move the landscape of college basketaball.

Billy Donovan I think has to be high on the Indiana list. He's won a couple of national championships and has the experience. Plus he was a good recruiter at Florida so he'd be fine at Indiana as well. Plus the Thunder is basically Westbrook and everybody else
