Ahmad Wagner is target 1 right now. Keep this kid at Iowa.

They're on the same campus. BK gets the kid suited up just to catch a few balls, you know. Maybe running a couple of patterns. AW is a better WR than any on the Hawks roster (yes, unsupported exuberance).

I love how everyone just assumes this kid is a football star?
Let's not start sucking each others d**ks just yet, guys.

He played one year of HS football in Ohio, caught 58 passes for 1,028 yards and 17 TDs and was named 1st team all state and got an offer from tOSU. I think that's a damn good reason to show some exuberance for a fellow Hawkeye, but obviously you're much wiser than the rest of us kool-aid drinkers.

We'd be idiots to not welcome him into the fold and take a flyer on him. But our offense may let him down honestly.

WR?
Nice!
Would love to see it happen.

I plan to leave this decisions to the coaches and AW.;)

If the guy is better than what the Hawks have, bring him on! If he's 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart, I hope he goes somewhere he can play. Seem like a great Hawkeye!

If he is 2nd or 3rd string you bring him on and make a goal line package with him. We need all the depth and talent we can get, with that we would for sure be dangerous in the red zone. Brandon S, Fant, and AW would be a jump ball nightmare from 10ish out.

According to the podcast; he could.

Ok so what is weird about this is my freshman year we had a guy that I always thought was like 27 try to play, because he came back to school, but i didnt say anything because I don't know his actual age and It was weird to bring my career in. I always thought it was 10 years from the time you start.

Since Brian Ferentz met with him, I'm willing to bet the Hawkeye coaching staff is excited about this development. It's not as if Wagner has spent the last 3 years on the couch. He has been training to be a D-1 athlete. I think he could play WR. He was easily the fastest player on the basketball team (i know, not saying much) but there was a play in either the Illinois or Michigan BTT game when he stole a pass on the sideline and it was incredibly impressive. I'd be careful in doubting his athletic prowess. It takes a lot of athleticism to play basketball. You learn how to cut, spin, and pivot. I don't see a significant athletic gap between him and Hock, and Fant for that matter.

Blocking is a whole other story, but we have some guys who can do that.

I don’t think Ahmad is really 6’7 I’m thinking 6’5-6’6 at most BUT even at that height with how athletic he is makes him a very intriguing prospect at WR/TE/slash any where you put him on the field could posse a match up problem for a Defense. I hope Iowa takes a good long look at him with the hopes that he can be a FOOTBALL player.. to bad he didn’t make this decision after his sophomore year or better yet his freshman year.. Good Luck to him.

Think he would be a matchup nightmare with Our WR/TE group. Problem is we are stacked at TE BUT depends on what kind of sets we want to run. We had a ton of success with 2 sided TE sets last year so odds are if he is good enough he will see some time.

Wagner has a football highlight video out there somewhere. I can't find it right now but it was really impressive. If he can cut his weight down and increase his speed...he'd be a hell of a wide out. It's not like he's been sitting around for 3 years. He's been training and working out as a D1 athlete.

Agree

If he can get his speed up and size down a bit with conditioning he is a big problem for DBs as a WR.

Woops, wrong link. He still never received an OSU offer, but I hear fans and analysts spread this incorrect info all the time.

He wouldn't even sniff the field.

Because we are deep with physically gifted WRs? You bring him on and see how he handles jump balls against 5'10 CBs. Call me crazy but I think that might be a mismatch. (I think BF might think that also)

BF needs to sell him on what he did with Aaron Hernandez and Gronkowski in New England ( before Hernandez became a murderer). They ran a lot of plays that took advantage of those 2 guys’ athleticism being on the field at the same time.

IIRC, Hernandez was also a basketball player turned football player. I could be wrong on that, though. Awful human being, but he was a physically gifted TE.

His potential is split out from the line, not as a traditional tight end. As for Iowa doing things differently, taking a flyer on athletic potential, throwing in wrinkles or making changes based on a particular player's skills, I'll believe it when I see it. It's not been a ready part of KF's methods previously.

I see Ahmed W as the next Antonio Gates. Gates never played football but will be an NFL HOFer. It's also nice to know that K and BF have reached out to him probably to be a part of the team. Now if he can learn the playbook.

Go to spring camp, and have the coaches give an honest evaluation to him. If it's a go but needs a little work and time to learn the system then red shirt in 2018 and come back in 2019 ready to play.
