Because we are deep with physically gifted WRs? You bring him on and see how he handles jump balls against 5'10 CBs. Call me crazy but I think that might be a mismatch. (I think BF might think that also)
The physicality of college football is light years different than high school football or D1 basketball. Can he block? Can he catch a ball thrown by a D1 quality QB? Because he is 6'7" most of you assume he is a world beater. If he can check the three boxes he could play...if he is missing any of those he is a liability and it doesn't matter what his measurables . I really think

I think he has the mental make-up and the physical talent to be coached up to do all of those.

I see Ahmed W as the next Antonio Gates. Gates never played football but will be an NFL HOFer. It's also nice to know that K and BF have reached out to him probably to be a part of the team. Now if he can learn the playbook.
Good lord.....you make an asinine statement like that and then take a shot at the coaches about learning the playbook? Antonio Gates is a once in a lifetime player coming up from the basketball side...good grief

Not once in a lifetime but definitely silly to bring up Gates at this point.

Ahmad is more like 6'5". He's similar to Lazard who is 6'5", 227 lbs. Definitely could use him at WR and if he happens to be a better fit at TE well then there's a chance Fant goes early after this year anyway.

I think his best option is probably with an FCS program to see the field right away.
I would get a good laugh out of it if he went to uni and had a great game against Iowa this fall.

His potential is split out from the line, not as a traditional tight end. As for Iowa doing things differently, taking a flyer on athletic potential, throwing in wrinkles or making changes based on a particular player's skills, I'll believe it when I see it. It's not been a ready part of KF's methods previously.

It doesn't seem like Ahmad's goal is just to see the field. He's giving this a shot to see if he can play football at the next level.. going to a P5, B1G, pro style, development school like Iowa seems like a way better option for him, IMO.

I love how everyone just assumes this kid is a football star?
Let's not start sucking each others d**ks just yet, guys.

As quoted above, he was Ohio 1st team all-state in just one season of playing and had interest from the Buckeye football staff. And since this is the football board it's possible some fans haven't followed his basketball career, but those of us that have can tell you that without a doubt Ahmad was one of the most energized and athletic ball players in Carver the last couple of seasons. His stat line wasn't much to brag about but he always showed enthusiasm when on the court,., ..in stark contrast to a handful of his peers on the roster. And even though football and basketball are two totally different disciplines, it's not like he has been sitting at home playing video games and that he's out of shape. The endurance he had to maintain to play basketball will very much transfer over to football.

It's just my opinion, but I think the football program just got an unexpected gift that will be vital to their offensive success. (Assuming he stays and joins the Hawkeyes of course).

I have no idea what Wagner can run in the 40 or how quickly he could pickup the playbook but I do know that after just checking with the internet, the tallest active NFL receiver is 6'6" 230 lbs. Whereas Ahmad Wagner is listed at 6'7" 236 lbs. That's a positive.

When Kyle Groaningweg is your backup Split End you tend to get excited about a guy like AW.
You have obviously evaluated Groeneweg on your own. Is he really that bad or do you just like dogging kids that are giving their best to get playing time?

Perhaps I'm the minority, and I'm cool with that but anyone who thinks Wagner would add meaningful gameday contribution to the football program is smoking crack. What about that high school video tells you otherwise? In all honesty, he simply looks like a superior high school receiver to me, and nothing more.

If I'm proven to be wrong sometime down the road, someone please bookmark this, call me out and I'll be ready for some chow.

Meet me at the park and bring a football and I will show you.

I dont think so.......I thought I might, but then it occurred to me that you may have used the line "meet me at the park" before. After which I may wake up in a room with your stuffed mom in a rocking chair. So hard pass.

Instead tell me more on the difference between a fade and a jump ball. And why Ferentz doesnt have a "jump ball play".

I waited at the park but you didn't show. By coincidence there was a pickup football game going on. They let me play and I scored a touchdown on a fade route to the right corner of the end zone. The QB dropped it in there perfectly over the DB. But then I got burned by a 6' 5" receiver on a jump ball. I had him covered perfectly but he just went up and took it away.

I'll call it first: with Stanley as his qb, AW will break mcnutts single season Iowa receiving record. Coming to think about it, Mcnutt was not a receiver either until he became a sensation overnight at iowa.

His HS tape looks better than any receiver Iowa has recruited the last 15 years

I remember watching his HS football tape when we recruited him. I have always thought he would have been a better football player for us. In part, as said above, his highlight film is better than any receiver we've recruited in years. If we can maybe think outside the box a little, just how hard would it be to devise a simple package for AW in short yardage and end zone situations, assuming he cannot handle more. He dominated great HS competition.

This is a unique situation for sure, but isn't this worth some serious discussion? He's probably not the next Antonio Gates, but he turned heads in his one year of high school football in a recruiting hotbed. Garnered some D-1 attention while he was at it. Sorry if people get excited if there is a guy already here that has a better highlight reel than many MAC level recruits the Hawks have or recruit....

Where is your sense of adventure young man?! Pfft, I feel like I don't even know you anymore.

I remember pointing him out to my brother at a game around when he first started getting on the court. We were both impressed by his athleticism and once you had the idea that he was a former football player in your head it was hard to see him any other way. There's just something about the way he plays that he didn't quite seem to fit on the basketball court. I don't know. I'm drunk and it's 1414 and I'm staring out at ten f***ing inches of snow I have to shovel.

My 2 cents on Wagner.

1- Worth a shot. Could pay off big but FAR from a guarantee.
2- TE out of the question. Too much to ask of him in a short amount of time.
3- I would be interested to know what he weighs now compared to his HS highlight reel. Doyle might need to trim him up a little to maximize his speed/agility. Hard to tell by looking at him in a bball uniform.
4- How good are his hands? Used his body a lot to catch in the video. Even the slant route got into his pads. Thats not gonna fly at this level. But made some nice catches too.
5- I think he is crazy to not play at Iowa or at least explore it this spring as a member of the team (at the very least in the weight room).

Its a cool story to follow and I really hope it works out for Wagner and Iowa!

Think he would be a matchup nightmare with Our WR/TE group. Problem is we are stacked at TE BUT depends on what kind of sets we want to run. We had a ton of success with 2 sided TE sets last year so odds are if he is good enough he will see some time.
Not a problem. Unveils the 4 TE set this fall.
