Iowa beat the Joens girls in two different games..Gonna get real now! Next three games against the three best teams in the league (IMO), followed by @Minny.

Yeah, NW snuck up on me. They usually remind me of Iowa teams from 12-13 years ago, solid bigs and OK guards but without the athleticism to make noise in the NCAA. Their resume so far has been very impressive. Lost to DePaul, but the Blue Demons are good almost every year.I hadn't taken Northwestern seriously as one of the three best teams but no more. They blitzed perennial champion Maryland yesterday 81-58, even though the Terps lost only one senior off last year's team. Northwestern's secret apparently is a constant all-out press, which bothered Maryland into 24 turnovers. Iowa winning there on Sunday would make up for the bad loss at Nebraska last Saturday, but our guards will have to be crisper.
We're about to see what she can do! I think she'll be solid.Against pressing defenses, Gabbie Marshall needs to get more minutes. She might be the best ball-handler on the team and always plays under control. Forget she is a freshman, forget it is an "away" game... neither matters any more than a warm can of spit!
Did the girl from WDM Valley play. If so, how did she do?Northwestern's half court defense against Maryland is what impressed me the most. They play together and their zone as well as player defense is extremely active playing with their arms up and jumping passing lanes making any pass difficult. Maryland couldn't make a shot even when wide open and their FR point guard Owusu was bottled up all game too. Turnovers can be an issue for Iowa and they will have to value each possession in this game taking care of the ball.

That would be Zoe Young. She did tear her ACL very early in the fall and is in rehab now.Did the girl from WDM Valley play. If so, how did she do?
I wrote a (roughly) mid-season report discussing Iowa's rotation players and how their seasons have gone so far:

I'd take that bet. We're still very reliant on 3-pt shooting. One cold shooting night against a decent team (there are lots of more than decent teams on the home schedule) and we lose. Heck, we could shoot well / play well and still lose, and there would be no shame in that. We have the #12 and #14 teams in the country coming in this week!I think this Iowa team will go undefeated at home again this season. Two veteran guards and a center that shoots 75% is a lethal combination, plus with Olinger getting 10+ rebounds a game.
In a word no. They play a bunch of 6"0" players around a 6'3" post. They are not deep but play excellent defense. We need to limit turnovers and bring our defensive intensity. If we hit some shots we should be in it with a good chance to win.Wow, Sevillian the savior at the end of the game vs Maryland! Hit a big three after having just missed two in row to break the tie, then hit a jumper with the shot clock going down after shaking off a defender, and finally capped off the night with two big free throws.
Versus Indiana I hope Czinano can score more than 4 points. Does Indiana have a big athletic center like Maryland?
Strangest game ever. Has a team ever been out-rebounded by 24, turn the ball over 23 times and win?
They didn't just win without Megan, they won without any center. Czinano was in foul trouble and barely played/contributed.Here's my recap of Iowa's win over Maryland. As others have said, this might be the strangest game I've seen. Not sure a team has ever won with 23 turnovers, 38 offensive rebounds surrendered, and 34 fewer shot attempts.
We also shouldn't lose sight of how big the win is for the program. Iowa was projected as a bubble team this year. This win shows it can compete at the top of the conference again, even without Megan. And that's great news both this year and long term (for recruiting).

Just to add, not to complain but there were some head scratcher calls out there. And there was a lot and I mean a lot of body up defense by Maryland that the refs let go.

Tough assignment. Seems everyone on Ind is a bucket filler.Defense isn't solid right now
