Our 2019-2020 front line players are few and inexperienced. None of those we have are proven scorers or high performing rebounders. (Even with the transfer of one solid post type player, I would still be worried about front line depth.) Any injury of next's year's current "bigs" puts us very short for personnel. Hawks would be forced to play 5 who have a guard playing orientation. Are we really going to play next season this vulnerable inside?

It will be a big change from having Gustafson (& Stewart), but Czinano has good size, is physical, & practiced against Gustafson everyday which has only helped her develop. Lisa has said in the past she isn't a fan of grad transfers unless it is a perfect fit as it can disrupt team culture. I see Amanda Ollinger stepping in to start at the 4 next to Monika but the depth will be wing type players in Logan Cook & incoming recruit McKenna Warnock. We'll probably see a lot of 4 guard lineups too.

Hate to pooh all over them after what they did this year/weekend, but next year is going to be painful.
I don't know about painful. Feels like a usual tournament team to me. Maybe not as good as last year's team, but better than the team two years ago.

I think it will be very painful next year, Losing the biggest post presence ever and the best ball handler and a very tough player, TD. They will be left without a consistent scoring presence at any position. Not to mention lack of rebounding and ball handling to be guard oriented. Unless new players really step it will be painful to watch IMO.

Doyle is the kind of kid I would take on any kind of team for every position and Meyer can light it up outside at times. I just think consistency inside is going to be hard to find. Hope I’m wrong of course and we/they should enjoy this run as long as it lasts.

How good was Kate Martin prior to redshirting due to injury? Cook is tall if she can be tough underneath. Any chance that new of for fall can step in as a freshman?

Remember the returning players are BIG TEN CHAMPIONS I thought prior to the tournament that they would finish last next year in the Big. I've seen growth in the last three weeks. It is going to take some time at first but I think they can finish in the middle of the conference.

There are a lot of good FR/Soph's in the league this year so may teams will improve. Iowa will have to solve for Tania Davis's departure too. Let's enjoy this ride and then focus on next year after the season! I still would expect them to be .500 next year in the BT..

I love Tania Davis but Doyle is the best guard on the team hands down. Thatis not to say Davis won't be missed. Davis was a competitor, an excellent shooter and had great presence on the floor. However, Iowa adds Marshall an Megan Meyer and Martin returns from injury. I expect Marshall to likely redshirt over Meyer since Meyer only has one year to play with her sister. Megan Meyer is an underrate PG and Kate Martin was a top 100 recruit. Meyer might have received a higher ranking if she played 4A ball.

Martin can play 1-4 and will likely be a g/f in the mold of Disterhoff. Ollinger will move back inside and fill Stewart's role. Remember Olinger was a top 100 recruit out of HS. I expect a huge improvement going into her junior season, especially with an increase in minutes. Look for the paint scoring to come more from drives to the basket rather than traditional post play.

I expect Iowa to spread the floor more next year and I would expect some drop off but I see no reason why Iowa should not be competitive and they have a good change of qualifying for the post season in 19-20.

Megan Meyer played 4A tournament ball,(there are 5 classes) and was in the CIML.beating Valley, Urbandale, Waukee. Or did I misunderstand your statement?

My bad. I was thinking Mason City was 2A for some reason. StillI think she would have been rated higher if she played at a larger school. She's rated as a high three star but not in the top 100. Mackenzie was Top 100 and Megan might actually be better as an all around guard.

Don't want to drag this out, but Mason City won the 4A in 2016( there was a 5A class also that season) and Makenzie was on the team as well as Megan, so being 4A didn't hurt Mak being Top 100, though probably was rated that in 2017.No she was a freshman at Iowa in 2017.But my comment about being 4A stands.

Megan Meyer is slight of build which will make her transition to college ball tougher. I've seen Gabby Marshall play once this year and felt she had a more complete game than Megan Meyer, but that was only one game. Kathleen Doyle will be the point guard and unquestioned leader next year, you have to love her grit and competitiveness and she was 2nd team All BIG. Making the tournament will be challenging though.

Rankings can vary greatly in WBB recruiting by service. Most services had Doyle, Makenzie Meyer, Amanda Ollinger, and incoming recruit McKenna Warnock all ranked top 100 and about the same. Blue Star had Doyle at #20 while most all others had them all 80-100. The rest of the roster was ranked by most services inside the top 150 with some variances there too.

Any news on the very tall European player who visited about a month ago? Wasn't she over 6"7"? I think she was considering Iowa, Rutgers, Oregon and one other school. Iowa seemed interested in her.

She committed to someone else (Oregon St, I think).

the 6' 7" girl chose Oregon.

I think next years team will be just fine, but not as good as this years. Monica will do a good job for the Hawks at center but not as good as Megan of course. Olinger and Warnock will fill in for Stewart just fine. Tania will be replaced by Martin and Tomi and they are really good atheletes. We will have more depth next year and will not be a bad team and like others have said should finish in the middle of the pack.
Doyle is really good and Meyer can get hot so we have a good base to start from. I think Monica, Amanda, Martin, Tomi, Warnock, Sevillian who played a lot this year, Cook will give us a nice team to watch.
Megan taught these girls how to win this year and they will benefit from that in the coming years.
Let's not underestimate Monica, I think she's going to be really good and, physically ready to play in the Big 10 now.

I agree on Monica, and she has shown her ability to score. Iowa will have 3 senior guards coming back, and that is critical. I hope to see Amanda step up her game for her senior year.

Sevillian will technically be a junior next year. Doyle has improved her toughness by a lot this year, and will be even tougher next year. For one, I did not see her wince one time when she went up for a layup this year:)

She said the same today about Grad Transfers. I would be VERY surprised if Lisa goes that route.

Correct about Alexix. Did she redshirt her freshman year, must have but can't remember?

Alexis did take a redshirt as a FR. There wasn't a role for her with the depth in the back court at that time, until Tania went down with ACL #1 up at Michigan late in the year.

Concerned more about post defense than offense next year. Monica showed improvement game to game offensively and positioned herself for easy shots often - though needs to finish more consistently.

I'm sure everyone on next year's team is looking forward to getting to score more often. This is what's great about college ball! Seniors graduate and the next bunch moves in. Unless you're Ohio St. of course, in which case you just bring in a new bunch of transfers!

Cinzano obviously learned a lot from Gustafson about position and going up strong. Two areas for growth are ball security (passes she can’t hang on to) and getting her shot to fall (everything looks good by the shot is just a little off). I see 25 minutes, 10 points, and 5 rebounds.

My most concern with Monika is foul trouble, what few minutes per game she did play she always seemed to get a foul or two. I hope they can get Ramos ready to go for backup, If they don't want to get a transfer.

If painful means being an NCAA tournament team then you are right. Will they be ranked in top 10, probably not but will be 20 win team. Only thing I care about is making a run in March this year and then locking up commitment from that dowling girl

Regarding Monica, I remember a pretty good Megan Gustafson as a freshman, but I also remember her not always finishing at the rim, not getting the ball up and over like she does now, so I think Monica will get in better shape and stronger, just like Megan. I guess that's maturity.

BG you are correct. Monika just needs game experience to help her finish & get in better defensive positioning. Going up against Megan in practice everyday probably isn't much fun but it has really helped her based off some of her recent finishes at the basket. She won't put up Megan type numbers nor should she be expected too, we've all become spoiled having Megan around.

For fun, I just checked the stats. As a freshman, Megan shot 55.4% from the floor (144-260). Monika this year is shooting 56% (28-50). Obviously the sample sizes are much different.

I wonder if it's harder to finish if you're not getting a ton of minutes. Like is it harder to get the right touch on shots when you've been sitting for 15 plus minutes and never play long enough to get in the rhythm of the game.

Monica has a long way to go.

Martin is a very good player and will help. Not sure if you can count on any true freshman to come in and save the day.

Expect a big step back, since Hannah was a great relief valve when teams overplayed Megan. Now they are both gone.

Our best team may be to go with 1 point guard and four combo G/F who can run and gun and press.

The whole team will need to put a big emphasis on rebounding the ball in the off-season and pre-season.

Was Gustafson a starter as a freshman? I know Coley was a sophomore and played center during part of her Iowa career, so I'm not sure if it's Gustafson or Coley that was the starting center in 2015-2016.

Looking back briefly, looks like MG's first start was Jan 24, 2016 vs. Purdue, replacing Kali Peschel. I'd sort of forgotten, but that was kind of an ugly season at times. We finished 8-10 in the B10, with a couple of losing streaks
