WBB recruiting for the future

Dowling Catholic star Caitlin Clark has lofty goals for her career at Iowa

"Caitlin wants to get to the Final Four," said Dickson Jensen, Clark's AAU coach with national power All Iowa Attack. "They’ve got a very legitimate chance. That’s what that program can build. Even (when Clark is) a freshman, that team next year is a Sweet 16-type team. They’ll contend for the Big Ten championship all four years, I guarantee it."

Jensen has seen all 25 girls who were named McDonald's All-Americans this week. He says with confidence that Clark is the best — that she's the national player of the year.

"They’re going to grow something great and maybe have an opportunity to do something here in Iowa that nobody’s done in a long time — get to the Final Four," Jensen said. "She’s not afraid to cut the nets down."

[...] next year, the door is open for Clark and her state-leading 34.6 points per game to slide into Carver-Hawkeye Arena and start leaving her mark right away as the team's lead guard.

"Lisa will give (Clark) the ball Day 1. She's going to be an impact player on a national scale Day 1," Jensen added. "Timing is great. The future of basketball for the University of Iowa is really strong."

I saw F Kendal Coley from Minn listed #32 in the prospect nation rankings, is that former Iowa player's sister? I can't think of her name right now, maybe Chase? If it is a sister, any idea if we have a good chance with her? Thanks for all the info!

It seems Prospect Nation is a lot higher on Coley than most others. Below is a link to a website run by Chuck Thompson, who follows Minnesota prospects heavily. He has Coley #7 in the 2021 class in Minnesota. Adalia McKenzie and Sophie Hart are 1 and 2.

He has Lauren Jensen at #2 in the 2020 class in Minnesota behind only Paige Bueckers, the top prospect in the country.

The junior class is rough. Cook and Martin just struggling because of injuries? Warnock is going to have to step up big next year. I think she can. May have to start 3 guards next year.

The advantage next year is Czinano can likely take a very large load of the offense similar to Gustafson last year if need be. In that case you will need at least 2 guards to be very good, which we should have and 1-2 forwards or guards just to step up and hold their own.

Iowa starting 3 guards this year ( Doyle, Meyer and Sevillan) so it wouldnt be a big change. Usually played three guards with Megan and Hannah last year too.

Not sure about Martin. I havent seen her enough to say she has the "it" factor. I would guess she is still gaining confidence with her knee too.

I'm not giving up on Martin just yet. From what little I've seen of Martin this year she seems to have the " it " factor. I could see a starting lineup of Clark, Marshall, Martin, McKenna, and Monika.

I’ve said this on here before but assuming she’s healthy, Jensen is going to be starting sooner rather than later.

Yes, I will agree with this what little I've seen of Martin too. Tough to see her with the leg armor but she has the "it" and carries an attitude I belong in the gym and on the floor.

Despite the fact that this thread is mainly for recruiting and also that this season is still far from over, I cannot resist commenting on the prospects for next season.

With Kathleen, Makenzie and Amanda all graduating, the Hawkeyes will, for the second straight year, need to replace three starters. Alexis has one year of eligibility remaining due to red-shirting her freshman year and would most likely remain a starter. She could however technically grad-transfer if she completes her degree. Personally I hope she returns because of her maturity, experience, leadership and because she is highly esteemed by the team. Regardless, with Monica returning, I believe Iowa will have the nucleus for a very successful season.

Last year I thought Tomi or Kate might have a chance to start (instead of Alexis) for this season. For next season, I still think they have tremendous potential and will have vital roles, even possibly start (especially if Alexis decides to leave).

I agree with the consensus that Gabby will fill one starting guard position and that Makenna will replace Amanda. It also seems very likely that Caitlin [Clark] will immediately start. I am also optimistic about Lauren [Jensen].

Any way you look at it, Iowa will be relatively young and inexperienced to start the season, but with the level of talent they will have arriving, I am optimistic they can return once again to the NCAA tournament. Dickson Jensen was quoted that they can make it to the sweet sixteen and I believe him.

Good take Cyberhawk. The guards will be young and talented but the front court depth raises some concerns. Sharon Goodman needs to be ready to see minutes right away and hopefully Logan Cook can step up her game too. Kate Martin should see some time and Shateah Wetering is possible too since she is a good at getting boards, defense, and has really improved her 3pt shot this year too. Future is bright!

Maty Wilke looks to have a Helluva offer List. NCAA division one offers from North Dakota, Marquette, Wisconsin, Green Bay, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Illinois, Michigan State, Iowa State, Colorado State, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, St. Louis and Utah.

Scoring shouldn't be an issue for next year's team. Clark is going to start right away and be the #1 scoring option because she'll have the ball in her hands most. Monika will be the #2 and will likely have an even bigger role in the offense than she did this year. Warnock will be the #3 option, and will take a lot more shots as a starter. She's a match up nightmare for opposing 4s because she can get to the basket or shoot over the top. Sevillian will start and probably fill a role similar to Meyer's last year as the three-point specialist.

I'd say the last guard spot is up for grabs. Marshall probably has the inside track, but she'll need to take a step in the off season. Taiwo and Martin will be on her heels. Jensen might have a shot at it depending on how she adjusts to the college game. Goodman has a good chance to be Monika's backup. Cook might get some minutes backing up Warnock. I don't expect Weterning to play much year 1 unless she takes a giant leap.

My big concern next year is defense. Doyle and Ollinger are our two best defenders, and Meyer might be #3.

Thanks for the link. I watched the whole game and what stuck out about her to me was how quick of a release she has on those 3 pointers. Very nice player !
She definitely has an unorthodox release. It seems efficient and effective though so I'm not complaining!

Agreed with the loss of Ollinger but would also highlight her rebounding (8.8 per). Ollinger consistently gets to the ball with her athleticism and knowing where to be. Czinano needs to improve in that aspect next year but I believe she can because we've already seen her offensive game grow significantly from last year. Having Goodman's height could be helpful to eat some backup center minutes next season too, like what Czinano was to Gustafson.

Here's a page with good info on Affolter. That's a very good offer list. From the video on the page, she looks very comfortable shooting from deep. A few nice blocks mixed in on defense. She also attacks the basket well, though I'm not a fan of the scoop shot once she gets there.

Not that I know of. I was close to bench and didn’t see either one of them.
