WBB Transfer Portal Targets 2025-2026

I think Ava will be better than Hannah next year, especially on defense.

Hannah off the bench is a good thing to have.

Depends a bit on Hayes. If Hayes comes in ready to play, the best fit would be Hannah at the 4. If Hannah want to play at the next level she also needs to develop the skills to play the 3/4. No way Hanna can play the 5 in the w.

Would be surprised if Hays comes in ready to play.

The portal officially opens this week.

Throwing this name out here after watching her play the last two games in the NCAA tournament: Maggie Doogan from Richmond.

Her two games in the tournament were impressive… she averaged 28.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.5 blocks over the last two games. Also, she’s 6’2 and can really hit the 3 (shot ~41% this season). I wonder if she enters the portal for her senior year.

Lucy Olsen most likely knows Maggie. They played against each other in high school. Doogan went to high school (Cardinal O'Hara) in Springfield, PA while Lucy went to high school (Spring-Ford) in Royersford, PA. They are ~22-25 miles apart.

During the '20-'21 season, they were both first team All-State in different classes.
Article Title: Led by Three Second-Team Selection, Eight Total D10 & D9 Players Named Girls’ All-State in Basketball

CLASS 6A
First team
Lucy Olsen, Spring-Ford, 5-9, Sr., 19.4

CLASS 5A

First team
Maggie Doogan, Cardinal O’Hara, 6-2, Jr., 14.5

Here's an article with both playing against each other. Maggie's mom is most likely her coach.
Article Title: Scott finds her shot and helps O’Hara advance to PIAA quarterfinals – PA Prep Live

"“(Olsen) is so tall. Syd is real guick, but (Olsen) can elevate over her and get her shot off,” O’Hara coach Chrissie Doogan said. “We thought Siobhan had good length and I thought Amaris (Baker) was locked in to make her hit tough shots. We didn’t put her on the foul line a lot, especially in the second half. And then with Maggie’s long arms helping, I felt like Maggie altered a couple shots when she did get into the lane.”"

"Looking for a boost before halftime, sophomore Maggie Doogan drilled a 3-pointer before time expired, giving the Lions a 23-19 advantage after two quarters."

"It marked the second straight year that O’Hara eliminated Spring-Ford in the second round of the state tournament."

"“I just think we weren’t making shots,” Olsen said. “Our defense was good, but we just couldn’t rebound the ball consistently. We needed that extra energy that I thought we lacked, too. They are a real good team. I feel like we played well as a team and played hard, but we couldn’t get it done."

Lucy can put in a good word for us if Jan feels she can fill a need for us and Doogan hits the portal. Hell, it might even coz Doogan to hit the portal if Jan thinks there's a need. I did not watch the games she was in so can she be a stretch 3/4?

I watched their game yesterday, She is the epitome of a stretch 3/4 IMO. Really nice player that can do it all, Also would be a one and done which may be appealing to Jan. Have no idea if she will enter the portal but if she does I would kick the tires on her.

Would be nice. Fits the needs of the team for next year

Doogan is an attractive "get", however I see a fit problem, in that I am sure she is looking for an assured level of playing time. If she plays the 4 in our team's system, does Hannah sit? She draws fire from the "experts" on this forum, however JJ is not going to bench her... she starts. If she plays the 3, who does she replace? Feuerbach, our best defender? McCabe? Maybe, but how disruptive would that be for team chemistry? Stremlow, does she get stuffed down the waiting list for playing time? Neither Feuerbach or McCabe have the quickness to start at the 2 spot. How does this affect Teagan's potential development? There is a need to add depth at the 4, but I am not sure a player looking for the playing time Doogan would wants fits the bill.

I disagree about Kylie not having the quickness to play the two. I think adding Doogan actually adds a lot of versatility to the line up. Whether you add a player in the portal or if you add 5 star talent on the recruiting front you create competition, I like loyalty as much as the next person but IMO Jan’s number one priority is to put the best possible team on the floor next year. Teams like UConn and S.Carolina etc, etc, create top level competition on their roster, You can either let your feelings get hurt or you can accept challenges and strive to get better.

Bottom line for me, Iowa still has question marks at the 3 and 4 spots, A player like Doogan helps address both issues by adding one player.

According to Internet rumblings McMahon and Garzon are entering the portal.
What a blessing for tOSU. She is the reason why that team could not pull together and reach their potential. If Kate Martin was the Glue at Iowa, McMahon was the opposite for her team.

Somebody will take her. I'd be surprised if Mulkey is dumb enough to be interested.

Women’s portal opens tomorrow 3/25. Men’s opens today.

Here I was agreeing with you and then you had to go and add that last sentence. :)

The problem with bringing in a 3/4 like Doogan is it could well lead to Guyton and Mallegni transferring out because you've recruited over them. That would hurt depth for next year's team and also weaken the team for 2026-2027 and 2027-2028. Maybe in the portal era that trade off is worth it, but I'm skeptical Jan thinks it is.

History also shows how risky it can be. When Iowa brought Feuerbach in, it caused Lauren Jensen to transfer. Feuerbach has been valuable this year, but was a role player in 2021-2022 and 2023-2024. Meanwhile at Creighton Jensen took a step and became one of the better scoring guards in the country.

In the end it boils down to how confident Jan is in players progressing, We all hope Teagan and Aliyah make huge strides next year, What if they don’t?

With Iowa wanting to elevate the program to the elite level do you go with the strike while the irons hot or do you go with the developmental approach? If Iowa stands pat with next years projected roster is next years team significantly improved from this years team? I think Ava improves the 5 spot. Does Addie Deal offset losing Lucy? The freshmen will improve, How much is the million dollar question.

It’s going to be interesting to see Jan’s approach, She obviously is trying to improve the talent level in the program, She has said she wants to try to be great, How aggressive she will be in that quest is going to be something to watch. Like I said earlier the teams at the top of the totem pole don’t blink when acquiring talent. How aggressive will Jan be?

If you are watching Jensen's interviews, I think it's clear she values the developmental approach to basketball (and life in general). She'd rather build a team as "family," and find her dividends in how that works. I'd bet, especially if they win today, she chooses to give her players confidence through loyalty. I'd also bet that is how she wants to sell the program to recruits---and maybe that's a winning approach in contrast. Jury is out on that a little bit.

She has said her portal approach would be to fill a need. If she envisions a better team next year as things stand, a Sweet 16 this year might indicate she likes where they are for '25-'26 season. Maybe.

Giving confidence and responsibility to these young players could go a long way.
At this point nobody really knows what Jensen will do, or how confident they are with their recruiting. It would appear they are pretty confident given the rank of the targets.

I always thought Lauren Jensen left because she played the same position as Caitlin Clark and could see that she was going to sit on the bench for her whole four years here. Your point about portal transfers stands nonetheless.

Carver is filling the arena up with 15,000 Hawkeye fans.We have millions on the outside watching them. JJ wants a great team and that’s what we all want. If she has the power to have a great team, that’s what she should do. Yes, there might be some hurt feelings. if you want Iowa to be considered a blue blood like the rest of the top teams, you gotta go for it.

Iowa does need to strengthen its roster and some feelings might be hurt in the process.
I understand Jan wanting to develop players and build within. But if you can improve your team and add a great player, you have to take the chance. Even Jan said unfortunately you have to keep up with time or you will get left behind. (paraphrasing)

No Jensen was a 2 or 3. Megan Meyer is the one who left because she was a PG and was always going to be Clark's backup.

Based on this game, developmental approach might not be the best plan. They need to hit the portal for next season

Iowa needs to add more athleticism and toughness. How many games have people complained about the officiating and the other team being too physical. They are never going to call it. We would box out for rebounds and barely jump to get it while Oklahoma goes right around us. Need to play tougher with a little attitude
