Coti McMahon would fit nicely there IMO.I could see LSU...
It's also worth mentioning that short term improvements can come at the expense of long-term improvements.I’m all about improving the team and most of us are. I’m sure Jan talks with the players first to see how they feel. Do they want to improve the team and go to higher places or do they wanna play more. It’s tough either way. It’s early but signs of Big improvements are a possibility. Making the final four is what it’s all about. go Hawkeyes.
I would play Williams at the 4 and let Hannah back up Ava.It's also worth mentioning that short term improvements can come at the expense of long-term improvements.
I think Ava Heiden needs to start at the 5 next year in part because starting for a full year next year will make her better as a junior and senior. Bringing in a player like Williams would undoubtedly make Iowa better next year, but it could also slow Heiden's development or even lead her to transfer in the worst case scenario.
I know I've argued Deal at PG probably isn't plan A, but if the coaches believe she can be one of the best PGs in the country as a junior and senior, it makes sense to give her the keys to the offense next year over a transfer. Iowa might struggle early in that scenario, but her development would lead to rewards later.
The core of Iowa's roster is very young. It will likely be at its best in the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons. Iowa will look to improve through the portal for next year, but I doubt the coaches will sacrifice development for the young rotation players in the process.
There's a 0% chance Iowa brings in a transfer with the intent of benching Hannah Stuelke.I would play Williams at the 4 and let Hannah back up Ava.
If Hannah doesn't put the work in to play the 4, she will come off the bench for Ava.There's a 0% chance Iowa brings in a transfer with the intent of benching Hannah Stuelke.
Iowa will try to bring in a PG out of the portal, an obvious need. This allows the coaches to find the best position fit for Deal. I think the next realistic possibility is a 3 that can score. I think Kylie returns to help Strenlow if a legitimate scorer isn't brought on board. HS and Tegan M will start the year at the 4. I think the coaches will gamble on improvement from both. It's also worth mentioning that short term improvements can come at the expense of long-term improvements.

So you think the girl who has been 2nd team all conference and scored 48 pts in a game is going to be put on the bench her Senior year? Sure thing. If Hannah doesn't put the work in to play the 4, she will come off the bench for Ava.
I think Ava will be better than Hannah next year, especially on defense. So you think the girl who has been 2nd team all conference and scored 48 pts in a game is going to be put on the bench her Senior year? Sure thing.
She’s starting somewhere my man. It’s probably at the 4 but more power to you if you think she comes off the bench. 😎I think Ava will be better than Hannah next year, especially on defense.
Hannah off the bench is a good thing to have.
I hope she puts in the work to play the 4. It hasn't happened yet. She’s starting somewhere my man. It’s probably at the 4 but more power to you if you think she comes off the bench. 😎
2nd team all conference. She’s lazy.I hope she puts in the work to play the 4. It hasn't happened yet.
She was a one trick pony being able to run out and feast on Caitlin's passing.2nd team all conference. She’s lazy.
So if she’s a one trick pony under CC how did she manage to make 2nd team this year? She was a one trick pony being able to run out and feast on Caitlin's passing.
It's not a lazy thing, it's a skill-set thing
You all need to stop with the handwringing. Hannah will be a very good 4 next year. She played that position her freshman year and has this summer to acclimate. She’ll be great next season.I think Ava will be better than Hannah next year, especially on defense.

It’s actually ridiculous the criticism she receives from some of our “fans.”You all need to stop with the handwringing. Hannah will be a very good 4 next year. She played that position her freshman year and has this summer to acclimate. She’ll be great next season.
I know some aren't going to like this, but I agree with her statement. IF Iowa wants to continue to be a top 10 or higher team in the post CC22 era, you can't afford to have 3 or 4 players languishing on the bench who simply aren't going to play.
Once again, my point being I'm not talking about players who don't play in particular games. I'm talking about players who by all appearances over MULTIPLE years are NEVER going to play basically. Ex: Jada, AJE, possibly KJ, who even Brandon said he doubts she'll ever fill a regular role on the team. I fully realize that all players are going to play. I'm saying if we are going to be a top ten level team, you can't afford to have players on your roster who may never develop enough to contribute. Again, looking at next season we have Hannah and McCabe and the freshman because we have lost a class basically with the 2023 class Ava's accident, KJ's injury and uncertainanty, and with Jada being a non factor, we basically have 7 players and the 3 player incoming class.I am curious as how any team in the country could survive with out 3 or 4 players languishing on their bench?
You going to play everyone 13.3 minutes a game?
Their is only 200 minutes to work with

And thats all great. So look at the current roster. If Mallegni , Stremlow. and Guyton don't make Big strides next season (which we won't know until we get into the season), this will be a VERY thin team without major portal help. And the reason is because we only had two players in the 2023, Ava Jones, (tragic situation) and KJ being unable to contribute. Couple that with there really is no one developing in the depth and you have 2 seniors next year, (three if you count Jada who isn't going to play), and 5 soph, and the three freshman. Theres a hole in the middle of the roster and no one gaining experience between those two groups. It’s only recently that Iowa has started using all 15 scholarships. Many times they only carried 11 or 12 in the last few decades.
UConn rarely carried anything near 15.
Reason to not use the full 15 was given point blank by both Lisa, Geno, and plenty of others is that there is not enough minutes to keep 15 happy.
Getting players that can be a positive force on the team, ie Jada, is a great thing.
I watched the games, teams were playing way off Hannah at the 4 because she would not take a shot from 10+ feet. It could have worked with playing Hannah at the 5 on offense and AOG at the 4 as she would at least shoot the elbow jumper. It seemed clear that the plan was for Hannah to develop the 3 point and midrange over the summer. But she had that injury that slowed it down. Syd was also clearly better at the 4 than the 3 this year. Both of these are not ideal if syd/Hannah want to play in the W.Pretty laughable reading what all of the experts on here have to say. I never played or coached, but I know BS when I see it.
Hell, she could barely make a shot at 2 feet. She pretty much needs to work on everything in the offseason.I watched the games, teams were playing way off Hannah at the 4 because she would not take a shot from 10+ feet. I kind of agree she needs to learn to "shoot" not just throw the ball at the basket. If you watch her, she tends not keep her eyes on the basket. But JMO.Hell, she could barely make a shot at 2 feet. She pretty much needs to work on everything in the offseason.
I think she just throws it up and expects a foul to be called. We all saw the refereeing in college women's basketball. You can't count on them to call a foul when there is one or not.I kind of agree she needs to learn to "shoot" not just throw the ball at the basket. I hope we get Harpring. Or did I miss an announcementCompletely agree. I look at it this way. One of the long term benefits of bringing in Lucy Olson was that Guyton saw firsthand in practice, games, and offcourt activities what is required to be a true first team all BIG guard. Mix that with substantial freshman playing time and the coaching staff will give her all the tools necessary for Guyton to take her game to that level.
Does she have that ceiling in her? We'll find out. If we bring in a transfer PG I would imagine JJ only does so if it's another first team BIG type of talent. In which case Guyton will have another excellent barometer to gauge her improvement before getting to challenge Harping for the starting PG spot in 2026. Then Harping will then be the benefactor from this competition cycle going back to this year with Olson. I don't think JJ will offer any player who doesn't buy-in to this mentality.
As a Slight Aside:
Coaches can preach 7 days a week about work. That preaching only has so much influence. We all know CC trains and practices at an elite level. CC's now established practice @iowa (that Guyton & all freshmen benefit from experiencing) and reinforced by CC when she does random practices with the team is one of those critical aspects of "culture" needed to be a consistently great programs. Couple that with JJ 1) identifying the right players & 2) step-wise improvements in recruiting? That's the recipe for becoming consistently good to consistently great. Once a program becomes consistently great for a sufficient period of time? Then it becomes a positive feedback loop in recruiting. At that point the coaches' job is to not F it up. That's a blue blood, IMO. Getting to that positive feedback loop requires luck. Good thing we already got some when CC chose Iowa.
Edit: this is not meant to downplay the standards or contributions to the players who came before CC. Obviously, that's part of it too.
Not sure we have a need for her. That being said she’s very goodVery unlikely as she's from the east coast. More likely destinations if she leaves the Badgers would be Maryland/Ohio St in the Big10 and possibly UConn, Duke, NC State, North Car. Would love to get her but I just don't see that happening.
No, but one of the other threads shows her visit to UCLA. It made me cringe.😬I hope we get Harpring. Or did I miss an announcement
UConn is interested. So back to the Williams discussion.
Would she even really consider transferring within the conference? She would definitely be a great get but I wouldn't expect her to.
