"We just knew they didn't wanna play defense"

Seth Meyers Lol GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

I stopped watching in the second half when Wisky went up by 20. I went and read a book and then came out and erased the shitshow from my DVR. Life is too short to watch a game like that. It reminded of the 1970's when one of Lute's teams got beat even worse by Knight's Indiana team.

Yep the backcourt of Gesell and Sapp also played defense. Last night, Thelwell and Dix seemed to be the only Iowa players consistently playing solid defense. Our two leading scorers were awful on both ends.
Last night might have been the worst D of the Fran era and that’s saying something…

This is the first time I’ve ever felt an Iowa coach deserves to be let go in the middle of the year.

I mean opposing players suggesting we’re too big of pussies to want to play defense???? Good god that’s embarrassing.

Let Gatens coach the team the rest of the year and see what happens.
Yes please!

What a slap in our face! Our players and coaches should be embarrassed!!
Beth better be seeing this!
Is this the first game she's watch Fran's team play since she's been at Iowa. She was an athlete herself. She didn't need some Badger loser to tell her what her eyes can see.....

Gates doesn’t seem to be much help.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure any of assistants do much of anything on game days. It was funny though when Payton went out in the 3Q he was so mad at himself he was practically pulling his hair out, and scrapping the skin off his arms on the bench. He knew he was playing like shit. Of course he went back in and went right back to chucking up stupid off balance shots.

Regnar? You have a little too much time on your hands? Who the flip cares what Curtis Blow has to say or what he does with his nut sack? Other than you, I mean. Wow!!
F off. Regnar wrote a damn funny script of how it would go if the Fran acolytes in the Iowa sports media asked the questions that need to be asked. Laugh out loud humorous and at the same time frustratingly spot-on for the state of Iowa basketball.

Yeah, but if you remember, Lute got him back a year or so later. The Hoosiers got their free burgers (?) when they crossed the century mark against us. But I will never forget Bobby just sitting their quietly on the bench with his arms folded as we took his Hoosiers apart 90-61.

Wisconsin shot great but the defensive game wasn’t really any worse than most fran coached games. They just shot well.
Fran just has a horrific defensive philosophy.

Embarrassing, but it's what we've always seen from Fran teams. Defense is just something to do while they are waiting to get the ball out of the hoop after another made shot.

Actually, defense is where you rest so you are fresh when you run the other way after an opponent make! ;)

Also, don't wanna get that 2nd foul in the first half so don't do ANYTHING that might look like a foul!!!

This is true.
Perfect storm of our defensive philosophy of hoping for misses from arc colliding with a once in lifetime hot shooting from virtually every badger.
Sadly, some of are roster are small weak and slow footed which means we have to pick our poison on def.
Cover inside by doubling and giving them clean looks from the arc was our default mode last nite.

Well Fran has only been at Iowa for 15 years, so I'm not sure how this becomes 20+.
Wasn't it Alfords team that was repeatedly lit up from 3 late in the game against Northwestern State when IOWA was a 3 seed 2005-06? Wasn't the only time during Steve's tenure that the deep ball was not well defended.

Matt was a big reason Iowa got rid of Lick, of course. Had Lick not been fired, Matt would have transferred.

In Lick's final year, Iowa finished the regular season with a 27-point loss at Wisconsin and a 35-point (88-53) drubbing at Minnesota.

Did they ever give up 100+ to Wisconsin?
