We just..

That's 2 solid outings in a row against upper half of the league competition. Could they actually be peaking at the optimal time?

Last 2 games are low win percentage games and both teams seem to have Iowa Kryptonite with scoring bigs.
Ths Iowa team is playing best defense of any Fran teams...I know the Woodbury-gessell teams played pretty solid zone defense, but I don't think they played man defense like this Iowa team can.

Have started to fix the rebounding problem too.

Supposedly they were Top20 in tempo adjusted defense.

They relied too much on the zone with Gesell-Woodbury-Clemon-Uthoff-Baer...Woodbury was a positional defender, not a shot blocker. We definitely could use him this year to stand in the post with his arms straight up.

i have not been a fan of Fran relying so much on zone defense during his time at Iowa, because it is too easy for teams to get hot from behind the ARC and blow Iowa out. It becomes a random crap shoot whether some no name goes off for a career night vs imposing your defensive will with man defense getting inside someones jersey.

This year, Iowa is mostly a man defense team and when they rebound, they are really tough.

I went to the game to:
- First and foremost support Iowa
- watch Iowa beat MSU
- watch Keegan put on a show
- watch Garza get his number retired
- See Dev back at Carver
- See Izzo get a technical/whine.

I. GOT. EVERYTHING!

That last bullet point is the cherry on top of the sundae lol. 🍒

Indeed it was!

By the way, does anyone find it odd that the bottom line on ESPN is quoting it as the largest conference loss since Iowa in 2021? Usually those are reserved for long streaks, not a year. Plus, we have more to give for the 2000s.

I wouldn't knock Woody. I think in another post here, there was a link to him playing against Weiskamp's team. So still making money in G league or whatever it is called.

Those teams played very little zone.

Do you not remember people always bitching about Woodbury hedging on screens at the 3pt line?

Those teams were pretty good at defense but had 3 guys who below average offensive players starting.

Those teams did not have the ability to switch like this team does.

If Dev was there that is great! All time great Hawkeye. Don't want to see that guy go sour on us. Would have loved to have gone and got my 8 year old to get his autograph or at least say hi. Didn't want to take the 2 year old out in this weather though. Glad it was such a great game and hope all of you who did go will remember it for a long time!

It's just a shame that Iowa--Barta--fumbled the Roy Marble jersey retirement the first time, you know, when the man was still alive to experience it himself. Roy had his off-court issues, but the way Iowa treated him was disgusting. And I think someone once said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Anyway, I'm glad they got it right last night and that Devyn apparently has made peace with it, but there was no excuse for making a mess out of it the first time. IMHO, of course.
