The level of talent really isn't important now. You simply want him to get a feel for sanctioned competition against unknown opponents. Find out if/how his body can respond at 141 in a tournament setting after weighing in. No need to throw him into a shark tank right away.
If Caleb Ervin is a shark tank? Then Topher Carton is the Shark Killer from now on.
If we are looking at future opponents:
01/15/16 at Wisconsin *
Madison, Wisconsin 8:00 PM CT - Unranked Gabriel Grahek who beat Paul Glynn 3-0, isnt that Glynn wrestling up since he is down to 133 now? Thielke must be Olympic shirting for Greco
01/22/16 vs. Purdue * Iowa City, Iowa 8:00 PM CT Unranked up from 133 Danny Sabatello who just lost to PSU's 3rd stringer Kade Moss 11-3. Moss is qaulity but geezo Danny!
01/24/16 at Nebraska * Lincoln, Nebraska 2:00 PM CT was #17 Anthony Abidin but lost to Ashnault 11-2 and doesnt seem to be ranked by intermat. Somebody want to fill us in on way Abidin seems to be taking a step back from last season? Not sure what up with him, thought he was better?
01/29/16 vs. Minnesota *
Iowa City, Iowa 8:00 PM CT #10 Tommy Thorn. This should tell us a lot.
02/05/16 vs. Indiana * Iowa City, Iowa 7:00 PM CT Unranked Cole Weaver. A RS FR.
02/12/16 at Montana State - Northern Havre, Montana 8:00 PM CT Unranked Baby Bigfoot. Due to lack of wrestlers in a dense state MSU is slowly bring along a cub quatch. Word is clumsy on his feet but one heck of a strong rider.
I was just having fun with the shark tank thing MSU. But after thinking about this for a few days ive since changed my mind on what i think is going on. I think Brody is at the open to protect Brody from himself mentally and for a slight seeding thought. I highly doubt seeding entered Brands head but he likely doesnt realize he could be saving Grothus from a unexplained loss. I think hes at the open because Brody is foaming at the mouth so bad it could work against him by trying to do way too much and just put folks away and prove he is who we think he is. He could get caught by a D1 starter or more likely Brody gets the adrenaline zap trying to show he is so much so fast. Much like Sorenson did last year in his first start vs Moreno where he was trying to win the 149 spot in 1 minute. There is a lot we put on Brodys shoulders for the team and this message board. Imagine being labeled the savior to us being able to win the team title? Poor kid but IMO its pretty true.
Second thought its better to feel this tourney, get first start away from home in Wisky and then make his debut in Carver. I think its the best road to protect Brody from being too impatient. I dont think its shoulder or weight but just that mentally. No point at risking a loss vs a Caleb Ervin whom he likely beats but maybe gets a fluke loss for getting out of position trying to impress the world with a throw or something.
