In a move meant to benefit media outlets that broadcast their games on radio and TV, North Dakota State University is putting new restrictions on media access for Bison athletics, NDSU officials announced Friday, July 29.

With the new guidelines, media outlets without NDSU broadcast rights agreements:

• Won't be allowed to show extended game highlights on special TV programs.

• Won't be allowed to broadcast or stream online live, regularly scheduled press conferences.

• Won't be allowed to host radio shows, pregame or postgame coverage from NDSU facilities or grounds, including the Fargodome and its parking lot, on game days.

• Won't be allowed to do live play-by-play blogging of games.

• Won't be allowed to do one-on-one interviews with the head football or basketball coaches on radio, TV or internet in season without the written consent of NDSU. Media outlets must request all interviews with these coaches and all players 24 hours in advance.

This is no different than every single team in Division 1 football team in america. Iowa/Big Ten has these right that are also protected. All this is saying is that now that NDSU has grown to the point in which they must protect their TV and Radio partners.

NDSU is NOT going to stop me from creating an * * * OFFICIAL NDSU @ Iowa * * * Game Thread. Would like to see them try.

Really? Can you point to me all the school than ban play-by-play blogging or prevent coaches or players from doing one-on-one interviews?

They do them with the media services that are allowed or granted permission, just like all other schools. You ever wonder why ESPN doesn't do play by play nor show highlights of the game until its completion (unless it's being played through their company)

Obviously you weren't paying attention. They already tried. And as of now I don't see a thread.

NDSU 1
KuwaitHawk 0

They own you in July. Maybe you can redeem yourself in September

The NDSU game thread will be LIVE on 16 Sep approx 2100 hours (that's 9PM for the non-military type).

really you've never used gamecast?

You've never seen a reporter send out a tweet during a game?

And most importantly you've seen other people ban the first amendment? Telling reporters who they can and can't talk to. You can tell your team you can't talk to them. You can't tell reporters that they are forbode from during interviews.

Meh... This really isn't that big of a deal. Basically it means our media partners will have exclusive rights to live interviews. Others sources will still have access to the coaches and players. I don't know who follows play by play blogging. All our (NDSU's) games are broadcast statewide on NBC, online streaming on ESPN3, statewide radio, and can be audio streamed online. Not sure why anyone is out there that prefers to read the game.

There's a little excitement up here as two of the better reporters that do a pregame show in the tailgate work for the competition. However, they can continue their show. They'll just have to move it to a local bar or even across the street.

BTW, you folks had a NDSU thread. It had some good info for traveling Bison. However, it drifted into football conversation, and the mods decided to delete it. I'll be coming down for the game. I'm hoping Iowa City is a little more hospitable than the Hawkeye Report.

If it includes twitter, which im sure it does, a lot of people follow it. I follow it during games and most of my friends do too. There at least 5 credible people that live tweet Hawkeye games from the Register, Gazette, Press-Citizen, Rivals, 247, etc. and I'm sure NDSU has some too.

Plus just because you can sit down and watch games doesn't mean everyone else can. Some people have work or family obligations, weddings. It's easier to pull up a Twitter feed on your phone for 5 seconds during a bridesmaid speech than to pull up Watch ESPN.

It's not about preference, it's about accessibility.

Fortunately Iowa has no such restrictions so we're good. Watch out though when NDSU plays themselves!

This concerns me. I have no written agreement with myself. I gave up on any form of personal oral contract and now I have only a handshake agreement with myself.
