Haha…. What can I say? A great thread is a great thread and great post is a great post. Tip of the cap and a golf clap to you!

I have almost all those on VHS and ‘97 was my first NCAAs. My dad bought tix from UNI and we had 5th row center. Still have all the bracket sheets from each session, program, and ticket stubs…. Each sessions ticket stub says $12.50 on it. The good old days.. Makes me wanna laugh and cry.

This is top notch work Kwoodhawk. If only I knew how to open this thread on my TV! These old matches remind me of why I started loving Hawkeye wrestling as a kid.
I don't know about getting this thread cast onto your TV.

But a lot of these videos are on youtube and could be played there on a smart TV.

Others could guide you how to do it. SPOONER is always very helpful that way.

I have watched some of them on YouTube. This just puts them all in one spot for me.

@Kwoodhawk,

Great work! Loving the videos.

I'm way too lazy to like every post, however. Instead, I present to you the perpetual like:

recursive-thumbs-up.gif

Still pissed that they allowed Thorn to jump the whistle in OT.
Screwed him 2 or 3 times in Dake match too.

Still burns me they let Teague Moore jump the whistle on Eric Juergens in the semis in '98.

I love how this went from 20-second clips to 2-hour compilation videos. Might make it to the 4th yet. I wish you could buy those from IPTV, or I knew how to save them from YouTube.

Speaking of IPTV, I love Doug Brown, may he RIP, but I had almost forgotten how he constantly got names, scores and stats wrong. His heart was really in the right place though.

I recorded almost all of them on VHS when they were broadcast, but I only bought one or two of the compilations. Years ago I started recording all my old VHS tapes of college and HS State finals onto DVD but quit when the second DVD recorder I bought gave up. Had a Guy from The Mat.com forums I was trading DVDs with, but his recorder broke too.

When I started going to NCAA tournaments, All-session tickets were $45. I have all session bracket sheets starting in '84 through 2018 except for '89 or '90 (I forget which. When it was in Okla. City and Brands was a Freshman) and the tickets for all those years, along with T-shirts and most years the lapel pins.

It really sucks that I may have attended my last one unless the NCAA starts caring about something other than money, which is highly unlikely.

Keep these videos coming, Kwood. I'll go back and catch up on likes, but I don't know if I can like the Hawkeye losses.

Had tickets to '97 NCAA's and gave up the weekend with Dad to spend with my kids. Dad ended up taking my former HS track/football coach who was living near Cedar Falls at the time. Dad died in Dec '20 and ironically, the guy he took unexpectedly died ~10 days later due to covid. He was quite a bit younger. So, news of his death came as a big surprise.

What an epic tournament, atmosphere and send off for Gable. Kwoodhawk, thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear that…. Cherished memories live forever. God bless.
