What’s your thoughts on Wisconsin?

It's a very interesting game from a mental standpoint. WI has it all to play for, but so did OSU. Can they turn it on after cruising so long? Can IA keep it going? How will WI play us? How will the weather impact things?

In the end, I just have to fall back on history and say expect a traditional Bull game. low to mid twenties, one-score game. We'll have a chance, hope we take it. I especially hope we go out giving them our best shot, and not revert to the stubborn running Wadley into run blitzes and stacked lines. WIn or lose, keep the aggression from last week.

Looks like the preciptation is going to hold off until early Sunday morning now per the Weather Channel. Winds from the S at 10-15mph. That doesn't seem too bad to me, should be able to throw well enough.

Wisconsin has been notoriously bad at starting off slow this year. Getting in early holes against Utah State and Indiana is one thing, but getting down 14 against Iowa is another. Iowa will have them where they want them. They want Connie to throw.

Leon Jacobs, Andrew Van Ginkel, Ryan Connolly, Garret Dooley, TJ Edwards, Tyler Johnson are ALL healthy and represent our four OLBs who have played all season on the outside and Connolly and Edwards are our Inside Backers.
Yes, Orr is injured and Arrington Farrar the four star former safety who has seen the field all season at ILB steps up followed by a highly regarded Walk On Mike Maskalunas, who was the star in training camp.

So...you're out of depth. Which was the point.

Wisconsin isn't really at risk of suffering a let down like O$u was. They also don't win and lose on the strength of one guy like O$u. Barrett was off. Yeah, he made a few deep throws, but he wasn't mentally ready to play 60 minutes. The Buckeyes suffered because of it. Wisconsin does not rely on their QB having a good day. They have enough weapons on offense and defense.
Like others have said, I think Wisconsin loads the box, disguises blitzes, and makes life miserable for Stanley. Like most Big 10 games, it will come down to how the lines play.

Very simple, slow their running game and force them to pass and then hopefully get them to turn the ball over. On offense, Iowa needs to be able to run the ball and keep using the TEs to create mismatches. Oline needs another great day.

One of my main thoughts about Wisconsin is that they're EXCELLENT as it relates to run D. Michigan State is another team that is rather stingy against the run ... and Iowa played from behind against them too. It certainly took a while for our O to find their legs in that game ... and, even then, we didn't get many points out of the deal.

IF Iowa is going to find a way to win this game ... it will be due to the D putting the O into positions where we can make the Wisconsin D play on their heals. Thus, turnovers and special teams play can and will figure into things in a HUGE way.

Speaking of special teams, would you expect to see Rastetter punting on Saturday?

I think I get confused when the play Nebraska because they have the same jerseys.......red is the worst color for a team- there are like 100 teams with red and white (exaggeration) Black and Yellow (don't give me crap about our colors being gold bc it is not- it looks yellow to me) is pretty unique color scheme

Cmon now. So we beat The Ohio State University,(like a drum by the way), simply because Barrett didn't play well? Yes, it was a factor, but OSU has plenty of weapons, and as far as I can tell, Barrett doesn't play defense. Their supposed to be one of the top five defenses in the country, and we put up 48 offensive points on them. Food for thought. Meyer has lost like five games at OSU, and NONE by even half of their loss Saturday. He was 26-1 in BIG road games before Saturday, and I can guarantee you that the QB's in those games certainly didn't play great in all of those games. IMHO Wisconsin is way more one dimensional then OSU. If we can slow down Taylor, we win. If we have half as much success throwing the ball, we win by two TD's. I'll call the score at 21-10 Iowa over Wisky.......

Wisconsin is a good solid tough nosed football team, similar to Iowa. They get the edge playing at camp randall. However, if they oline plays like they did last week, Iowa has a decent chance to come out with a win.

The 2017 Hawks remind me of different sides of the 2008 squad and the 2010 squad. After we got our big win against PSU ... we won-out from there. Could the 2017 season mimic that? In 2010, after we curb stomped MSU ... it looked like we had finally "turned the corner" in that season and were playing at the level we expected. However, unfortunately the wheels feel off of Adam Robinson (perhaps due to concussion and behavior issues) ... AND we had a key injury on the OL too (Gettis, IIRC) ... and that negatively impacted our offensive balance ... and our scoring production dropped off. Injuries at LB continued to hurt our ability to get off the field on 3rd downs ... but Phil did a good job of calling games, so our scoring D was still pretty tight.

So maybe the '17 season is the 'what if' version of '10 ... what if ARob and Gettis had remained healthy? Maybe our O continues to progress after having turned the corner ... and we win-out after the curb stomping?

Or, is the '17 squad still too young ... and they still haven't "learned" how to play a complete game against an elite foe AWAY from home? Just look at the evidence thus far ... our losses to BOTH MSU and Northwestern came on the road. Will that trend continue ... and we lose at Wisconsin? Or, do they carry their focus, confidence, and momentum from the OSU victory ... and pull off the victory at Camp Randall?

I don't know ... all I can say is that I agree with anyone who points to the game as a back-yard brawl ... an old-school slobber-knocker. Who will come out on top?

Wisky's defense has several key injuries and their depth is going to show. IF....Iowa spreads them out more often then not and makes their back up linebackers cover Hochensen and Fant...I predict Iowa to look pretty darn good versus their defense. Spread em out...tight ends and Wadley out of the back field and then work back to runs from that formation. I predict Wisky has troubles staying with those Iowa options. Bad weather will help as long as the wind doesn't become a factor.

Agreed. Loading the box ain't gonna work if we ain't dropping the ball. :D

Wisconsin usually grinds teams down and dominates in the fourth. Iowa is a fourth quarter team this year and has the 8+ rotation on the DL. This is going to be a good one.

And, Iowa is built to outlast Wisconsin. Had a lineman tell me that Doyle's philosophy is to have players as strong as Wisconsin but not as big so they don't wear out in the Q4. And my buddy was a 3 year starter. He know what he talk about, if you know what I'm saying.

We built to beat Wisconsin.

It can be fairly said that fans really do not know what we have with this Iowa team. Hawks don't have the "athletic talent" to drop double nickels on Brutus, at least in theory. Every good/great team has a turning point. Almost every mediocre/above average team has a great moment. This weekend will speak loudly on determining which tOSU game was for the 2017 Hawks.

As for the offense its possible that the early season reflected all of the changes in the off season. New coaches, new route trees, untested QB. Nate's ability to throw a fast ball into small windows and the TEs are certainly one way to back off those LBs and safeties that Iowa lacked last season.

My guess is Hawks come out throwing like last week. As said above we work those route trees back into the run game. One thing is certain: Bucky's little stud RB is about to get hit like he's not been hit this season. This game seems like it will feature more scoring than usual in the series. Iowa wins a shootout before returning to a more conservative offensive scheme against Purdue.

Hasn't the visiting team won the last 6 games in this series?

So far I am correct
The Iowa D held up surprisingly well. The bigger issue was that the Iowa O either stuck them (the D) in situations where they had to defend too many short fields. Wisconsin called a good game, used a lot of misdirection, and broke some important tendency.

Had Iowa's O executed better - the situation could have easily have been different.

I am glad that is over. Now, the Team just needs to concentrate on Purdue next week. If they have a solid game plan the next week won't be a give me, gane, but they should be in a very good position to end the season on an upturn and hopefully, show up for the bowl and be competitive.
