This is crazy to say but there were a few glaring issues that maybe makes this not quite as bad.
A- you pointed out the shooting. I don't care what the commentators say, it had nothing to do with Utah St.'s defense. They were mostly wide open. We shouldn't do that again.
B- Dix, Sandfort, Dembele might have all played their worst games as Hawks.
C- The defense wasn't bad (the rebounding was atrocious).
D- we can't be this bad at free throws, can we?
E- Will Fran learn? When the team is struggling to rebound, needs to make offense/defense subs or needs to stop effing shooting 3s and look inside, it has to happen. There is zero doubt that the brand new coach at USU outclassed our veteran. As I was typing this they just said there is no plan B, C or D. Live and die by the 3. Freeman had 18 points on 12 shots. Traore was the only other one to get to the rim and he didn't play. Traore causes nightmares at the top of the press and didn't play. Thelwell didn't have the ball in his hands attacking downhill. The only one who did was Harding.
I don't think USU had better athletes or better players. I think they are better coached and certainly have an impact on the glass. Iowa should have won that game... but didn't. A story we know too often.
Of course, a shoutout to the Wilson ball that we can't shoot for some reason.
