What a awful game

The sooner this team reveals its true self, the sooner we can stop the charade. It’s not a good team. Owen Freeman is the only consistently good player. This is just another disappointing season, for a program with literally zero hope of doing anything but playing out the string.

Wheels came off with Traore on the bench. Different game if Iowa can hit their free throws even with awful 3 point shooting. Things were looking up at halftime with Iowa generating turnovers.

Dix still looks hampered. The desperation 3 by Falselv nailed the coffin with about the 7 minutes to go.

Agree—-Awful game. Dembele is lost—-we can’t get it to our best player, Freeman—-we won’t play our best athlete—-we let a guy go 1 for 14 and keep him—and throw his little brother out there and he bricks them. A coach has got to coach——What the hell was Fran doing?!?!?!?

This is crazy to say but there were a few glaring issues that maybe makes this not quite as bad.

A- you pointed out the shooting. I don't care what the commentators say, it had nothing to do with Utah St.'s defense. They were mostly wide open. We shouldn't do that again.

B- Dix, Sandfort, Dembele might have all played their worst games as Hawks.

C- The defense wasn't bad (the rebounding was atrocious).

D- we can't be this bad at free throws, can we?

E- Will Fran learn? When the team is struggling to rebound, needs to make offense/defense subs or needs to stop effing shooting 3s and look inside, it has to happen. There is zero doubt that the brand new coach at USU outclassed our veteran. As I was typing this they just said there is no plan B, C or D. Live and die by the 3. Freeman had 18 points on 12 shots. Traore was the only other one to get to the rim and he didn't play. Traore causes nightmares at the top of the press and didn't play. Thelwell didn't have the ball in his hands attacking downhill. The only one who did was Harding.

I don't think USU had better athletes or better players. I think they are better coached and certainly have an impact on the glass. Iowa should have won that game... but didn't. A story we know too often.

Of course, a shoutout to the Wilson ball that we can't shoot for some reason.

football still wins easily

Maryland is terrible. We will see if this team has quit or not tomorrow. If we get down 14, I may not keep watching.

One part of the Ferentz family hates Iowa and has some real sour grapes despite being paid handsomely for the worst performance in his job. They can not beat us...

Check out these stats

5/26 from three
8/16 free throws
Out rebounded 45-26
Off rebounded 13-6

If Utah State doesn’t turn the ball over so much they win by 25 points

We are who we thought we were gonna be
Fran coaches like he is throwing away these early games to find the right rotations. This would be acceptable if he even sniffed any NCAA Tournament success. He just has the worst rotations and leaves guys in when they can't hit the side of the backboard. Does he try to win every game?

Utah State could afford to drop everyone into the paint with their zone and eliminate offensive boards, Freeman attempts, and dribble drives since Iowa couldn't hit a 3 to save their life. Iowa and Payton shows any semblance of shooting from the perimeter and Utah State can no longer do that.

Dembele shouldn’t see the floor, let alone start. It’s pretty easy to see it should be Harding, Thelwell, Payton Sandy, Treori, and Freeman as your starters. Fran’s an idiot.

I’m actually intrigued to watch Jackson Stratton tomorrow

I like Traore & Thelwell's potential upsides, but other than that, pretty hard to feel like disagreeing with any of this.

Dix hurt and Two Sandfort no-shows.
I guess things can improve, but usually good teams NUT a game like this out.

Getting killed on boards says we are soft and earth bound.

It is crazy how teams that get a sucky shot to go in seem to end up winning. That was pure garbage and that guy is a lunch pail guy, not some high NIL athlete. He did Iowa in by playing harder.

It's like the Football Gods owe us to find a diamond in the rough from the garbage pile of Quarterbacks that Kirk Ferentz has been collecting since Stanley left.

They moved this guy to LB...if he turns out to be the best passer on the team, it will confirm what nearly everybody thinks, that Kirk just
doesn't know chit about QB play.

On the other hand...maybe Stratton is garbage.

we suck again GIF

I was on the Harding train last year and thought he was the future at pg. Not now. Too inconsistent on offense and since Fran puts offense before defense, his playing time should be minimal.

Exactly. We know the awfulness of Cade, let’s see what someone else can do

Usual crappy hawk fans come out to post after a loss. I certainly expected it. Took 6 games so I guess that’s a plus.

It was certainly a bad game for some hawks. We need sandfort and dix to play better. Great game by Harding and Freeman and I loved seeing Harding and Thelwell play together for so long.

I’m not too upset by this loss. If our shooting is this bad all year then we will be very bad. If we shoot even close to average and play decent defense (like we did most of this game) then we’ll be a pretty good team. We won’t win all games (like today) but we will win a bunch of them.

Harding plays hard. He's all Hawkeye. I really like him. But the hard truth is that he is really undersized and lacking athleticism for this level of play. I think he's going to have a tough time when B1G play begins.

I think our backcourt is in the bottom 3d of the league.

Wtf. Clueless post. This is where Brock will get to and he’s not far from it. Thelwell was ok tonight really just on defense.
Fran needs to let Brock be Brock.

Lacks the athleticism? What are you people watching. Brock would be an all league player by his senior year if we had a decent defense or an actual rim protector. Brock is the best off ball/ help side player on this team and frankly that isn’t even close.
