What are the chances of a recession/depression under trump?

How likely is a depression/ recession under Trump?

He is now worth 5+ billion and will be president twice. I don't know if your 400 mil number is correct, but I think that is still a pretty good return on investment.

Trump did inherit $400 million. His father Fred Trump was also a crooked businessman.

$400 million invested in an index fund in 1985 would be worth $5 billion now...or more.

No one really knows Trump's true net worth. He lies constantly about it just like he lies about everything else.

Billionaires don't want a strong middle class. Middle class people own homes and cars. Middle class people have options.

Billionaires want a beaten down working class that doesn't own anything, has to rent out everything, and can be completely controlled by threatening homelessness anytime they ask for more.
Replace billionaires with Democrats and your post makes sense.

The $400 million number is not accurate.

So if you think most republicans think or understand there is a very realistic chance of a recession all on its own happening is what I think you mean, then why would they vote for the Dumpster who wants to hurry it along and magnify it with tariffs and global trade wars?

Can you explain that vote except to say they are mezmerized in their cult worship of lies?
Because historically there are recessions every 10-12 years. America is likely due for a recession within the next 4 years, regardless of who the president is.

Biden didnt delay a recession as this country needed and needs an infrastructure act and new infrastructure built and the green deal is more jobs and renewable energy sources. Iowa has hundreds or more bridges that really need repair.

Trump touted infrastructure but they were too lame to do it. Biden has it going and as long as no one messes with it we will have those jobs. Yes, taxes will pay for this or it is debt underwritten but our debt has driven this countries growth for a long time.

Most experts say the US has $160 trillion worth of oil, gas, and even coal (coal for when the oil and gas vanish) and are country could wipe out that $30 trillion in debt by selling only 20% of that. In a pinch sell it to Nato countries and it will be produced here and shipped to them.

The multiplier effect says prices go up with production and growth. Get used to it.
I personally don't agree with the renewable energy stuff that was pushed under Biden so I would be ok if those jobs go away.

You say we have so much oil, but Biden wanted to stop using oil in the name of Agenda 2030 and their green energy goals. Initially when Biden took office he cut way back on oil production in the US, he soon had to increase levels to where they are now because the economy and inflation were really hurting. Trump on the other hand ran on drill baby drill. He wants to utilize the money we have in our oil. Biden proved he doesnt really want to utilize this oil because he just closed 600 million acres of potential oil fields as a way to undermine Trump and America.

Prez is an official felon with financial fraud and sexual assault on his record as well as a coup and his explicit statements that maybe he won't leave after two terms. Question is why you trust him?

The republicans and trump more specifically have convinced the people that democrats are just as crooked and corrupt as trump is but he’s just more honest about it.

I didn't say or mean to say we have sooooo much oil, actually crude oil will decline and be hard to get sooner than people think. There was a timeline of 2050 for sharper cuts in crude oil extraction.

Why may I ask dont you agree with renewable energy "stuff" that was pushed under Biden. You are not for wind and solar energy? Are you pro-nuclear energy which is at least carbon free and considered in the renewal energy sources? You do know that hardly any new coal mining jobs were created under trump, maybe 25,000. Reports are more than 600,000 new green energy jobs created under biden. New tech makes solar cells to capture sunlight to turn into electricity are much much more efficient making even less sunny areas able to use solar energy.

Mid-American Energy etc in Iowa has nearly 50% of residential energy coming from wind energy production with wind towers that last about 30 years each and carbon free once the construction is done. You dont like progress

Oh so you say presidents and their administrations have no control over when recessions happen. I dispute that but I also have to ask then why so many prez's get blamed for it?

I have zero concerns of Trump trying or succeeding at a third term.
- he will be very old. He wont have it in him physically or mentally to stay longer.
- No one in America wants Trump for a 3rd term. Even republicans want Trump out after he is done
- I have not seen any indication from Trump that he wants to stay in office longer than his second term. This is a left wing conspiracy theory.
I have seen video of him saying it, hinting at it. yes he might be trolling but he wants to be a king, like a Saudi, or a lifetime dictator. period. That is his make up

I support wind or solar for private residences but large scale wind and solar are a major eyesore to our beautiful country. They produce very little power for the land area and waste.

I do support nuclear, but I think we need to be careful with it and its regulations.

The whole climate crisis is a scam. The temp may be changing, but they are not primarily due to man, co2 is definitely not the primary cause of warming, and just because the average temp may rise, that is not necessarily bad for us.

I support fossil fuels and I support a clean environment. In fact one of my concerns about Trump is that he doesn't care about the environment enough for my liking.

This is why I like having people like rfk, tulsi, and vivek who will be in his ear about the environmental concerns.

And I think it’s important to understand that there is a difference between “MAGA” and standard issue old school Republicans. You know the ones who MAGA types try to discredit by calling us RINO.
RINO? How about Neo-con? Or Libertarian. or Evangelical? The MAGA's are a new breed, and in all honesty, I do not really even run into many of this variety. I think mostly it is a media concoction and because it has become synonymous with hillbilly or hick, gets cast about more than its numbers reflect.

I meet a lot of people who describe themselves as "Trump Supporters" - but never as MAGA. Usually, after some quick conversation they mostly turn out to be Neo-cons ... pro economic growth (via low tax rates, and smaller government), and anti-war once we orchestrate sending the ambitions of Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Putin, and a few others back to the year Mohammad was born. No one I run into is calling for huge tariffs, or mass deportations and yet they all seem to have voted for Trump. They all like Israel and Ukraine and can seemingly live with a sort of detente with China. This is true even of the folks wearing red Trump hats.

Mr. Trump is overseeing a huge tent, more disparate than any Republican President in history. I support his efforts and wish him the best. I am counting on him to come around to my way of thinking and I honestly think this will happen. We shall see. There are many ways to make America great once again.

Actually, he has a good record of doing what he says he is going to do, or to at least try. ... and he does follow the rules!

This is what is odd about this whole political era: Trump keeps his word ... and yet there are many who call him dishonest and a liar.

Incidentally, he is a practiced Internet Troll. Some of you folks are continuously being taken in.

You are a stupid person. There's no other way around it. Trump follows the rules and tells the truth now? If you're willing to get scammed at this level then he's earned your vote.

Fed chairman Powell’s term ends May 2026 so think we are good till then. Who he puts in place will define the odds. I don’t think much will come from he’s ideas, they will be for show or easily circumvented or waived with a contribution
President does not elect the chairman of the federal reserve. He's elected by others on the board. The president elects the members of the federal reserve. Powell can't be removed by the president.

Wut?
And then do what with it? If you’ve killed off the middle class (the largest slice of the population) what are you going to do with all that property?
Middle class is slowly dying.

Will Trump still be labeled a felon when that ridiculous verdict is overturned? Does he have to register as a sex offender as well even though he's never been charged or found guilty of rape?

So you would rather send our nation’s treasure to countries that want to destroy us? That’s an odd policy stance for a true patriot. Green energy and less reliance on our enemy’s fossil fuels is a vital national security concern.

Biden didn’t do anything to reduce oil production in his first year, Covid and the resulting huge drop in market demand took care of that. For someone who’s touting Trump’s economic and financial track record (which isn’t great BTW) I would expect that you have at least an elementary understanding of economic dynamics and a somewhat accurate recollection of the actual historical facts. You appear to have neither of those.

Yeah, we all know Trump ran on drill baby drill (dumbest slogan ever BTW), would you care to explain to me how that directly benefits our country? Are you suggesting that the government gain control of production and sales? That’s a command economy scheme at best, see North Korea, Cuba, Russia for real life examples. At its worst, well that’s just outright socialism. That’s what you’re hoping for?

If Biden proved he doesn’t want to utilize oil why is domestic oil production at an all time high and has been for a number of years now? If we’re going to have a meaningful exchange on these forums you have to use facts, not made up fantasy. You’re not living up to your end of the bargain with statements like that.

Reminder that Dems panicked and rewrote the definitions of 'recession' as a coping mechanism when Biden brought us into a recession in 2022.

Democrats are full of crap when it comes to oil. they claim climate change is the biggest threat to humanity and Biden bans the sale of ice vehicles in the next decade. but then I have seen dems tout that oil production are at the highest levels ever under biden.

So what is it, is climate change a major threat to humanity and fossil fuel usage must stop, or should we utilize our oil resources to help Americans? You can't have it both ways

Facts are not really a priority for democrats either. Here are 175 ways biden made it harder to utilize our oil resources.

So this is your main concern?

If your wife and kids agree to stop calling you a loser does it really change the underlying truth?
To be honest with you, it seems to me that when accusing anyone of a misguided “main concern” it might help if you admitted that the left is beyond having a “main concern” when it comes to the President elect.

You're one of the rubes, too, Goldy. You fell for Trump's scam twice. Yet you still peacock around here will zero humility.

And let's be honest. It wasn't twice. You very likely fell for Trump's scam the last election, too.

So your goal is to have everyone around here marveling at your intellect? So far, I am not too impressed. Might I suggest that you brush up on your facts and to then include them as content in your posts.

You could actually make a counter argument from a number of different angles, but you have to understand what is going on out there. (You have to be loaded with information and ideas since the bar is quite high.) There are Liberals around here who take this path exclusively, so it is definitely doable. I would urge you to give it a go so that I can begin to marvel.

Humility and peacocks do not belong together in the same sentence.
If you think I’m a rube I don’t mind.

What's the point of making counter arguments? It's been pointed out to death in every way possible how corrupt Trump is. The information is out there. Yet you ignore it. Either you're an intentional asshole. Or you're simply too stupid to understand that you're being scammed.

I wrote a post saying that Trump is a liar POS boy. You took offense to that post. It's an odd reaction from someone who says they've seen the light and that Trump is bad for this country.

It only confirms everyone's suspicions that you voted for him a third time.

The election is over and one bozo beat a bigger bozo so let’s deal with the reality of the situation.

Trump was part of the larger point and NOW THAT THE ELECTION IS OVER let us not forget that I remain a conservative Republican who is NOT a MAGA. Therefore I will counter a post that I disagree with that goes beyond some person still stuck on him as their focus of anger. It’s pointless. Do you really not understand that?

Biden is a bigger bozo than Trump?
Joe Biden is a 50 year hanger on who the Democrats pushed out there in an act of desperation. He was not mentally fit for the office from Day One and should not have been allowed to run for a second term in any case. A Democratic Party with no real “bench” foisted him on the electorate and DJT exposed him in the debate.
Am I saying Trump was the best? I bet you and others will claim I’m saying that. But I’m not and I have been consistent about it,
I’ve said for months and months both parties should have had the guts to give America two candidates who were the best from the next generation and that I wouldn’t vote for either one.
I did not vote for Trump. I did not vote for Harris.
America has voted. Like it or not we must deal with the results.
There’s been a statement made by voters and as far as I’m concerned a reset pulling the country back to the center. And we should be paying more attention to make sure we stay there.
If this is over your head I can’t help you. Bless your heart.
