Wow is that typical? Appreciate you, but I know I would be dangerous behind the wheel after 14 hours or so. Going 36? I would be causing the accidents, not saving people after them!
We can sleep. Pretty uncommon to get no sleep and if it happens we can go out of service. I’ve been doing this for 35 years. I don’t know how to explain it any other way than you can condition your body to do it. I only do day/night/day 36 hour shifts, as those are easier on me.
Adding, I freakin' hate cold weather. I brought two full huge duffel bags of gear for this weekend. If I would have know zero degree temperatures would be here I’d have spent the weekend in front of my fireplace.

So, in theory I could tell you the truth, that we have done absolutely nothing so far this shift. However, if I did that, I would be cursing myself to a busy shift the rest of the day. So I’m going to say nothing.
