What do you think of PMac?

If PMac learns how to finish at the rim with his left hand he is going to be very very good. Other than that I like his game.

there's really nothing not to like about his game. Contributing on a good team as a freshman. Has things you can't teach, like height and lateral movement. Can shoot, dribble and pass. He just needs more experience really. He will be a good player. How good, don't know.

That kid has a high basketball IQ! Combine that with his athleticism and mobility through the lane and I see great things for his future. We’ll be glad to have him going forward!

Am I misremembering, or has Pat ever driven into the lane from the left side to shoot that funny sort of floating sideways jump shot? In my memory, he always goes right to left and than has to contort himself to shoot it right handed. Right or wrong?

Meh. I like his potential, but not as a scorer. Very quick and agile for his length. It’s like he is exactly what his dad wants in a basketball player. Needs to develop his shot, or preferably, totally re-work it. I think he will shine defensively in the passing lanes and disrupting shots. And, is he really 6’ 9”? Seems like we might have another Brunner debate on this one.

Lol. Pmac isnt a scorer? He will be THE scorer by his junior year

He's got great length and very good athletic ability. He's gonna be a very good player.
He and Nunge have the ability to put the ball on the deck and attack the basket..Good things happen. They draw attention ,draw a foul or can kick out to an open shooter. With their length pretty hard to block the shot.

Whatever he's doing he doesn't seem to make very many of them. Decent dunker, thats about it. He'll get better on his all around game I'm sure.

My nickname for PMac is rubber band man.
ive never seen a kid who goes across the lane, jumps off the wrong foot and contorts his body to square himself to the basket and makes the shot. Unreal! His potential is off the charts.
He’s athletic, he’s fast and runs the floor. His most impressive play was when he got the rebound, dribbled the ball down the floor and and finished with a two handed dunk! He’s was a 1 man fast break!
He needs to continue getting stronger and working on his jump shot. I think he’s going to be first team all big ten in a couple of years!

I heard that song today and remembered the post. Good one.

Maybe but with his dad as the coach he's going to start and play major minutes.

Im not worried about his shot. He only shoots when wide open.
Or he DUNKS the crap out of the ball. He already has some highlight-reel dunks this year, and he's only going to get better.

Of course it is,.. Our best quarterback is always on the bench, or sometimes even still in high school waiting to be recruited...

Not sure why you wrote that statement.... Regardless, Jack improving on the shooting form of his older brothers would not take much at all. CMac and PMac have the most awkward shooting forms on the team. Along with some low shooting percentages to got with it.

I could see some brake pumping needed. He will be a very good player for Iowa but George Gervin, Bobby Jones and 20+? That is a pretty high and unrealistic expectation. And the Iceman was way smoother on the court, don't think that cat ever broke a sweat.

PMac is best when he is out and running on the break, very dangerous in this role. He gets to the basket pretty well in the half court due to his length (he uses it well) but he takes some shots where he really contorts his body and I am not sure that is a great recipe for him (or any player) in the long run.

I wrote that because Hawkeye fans are always dissatisfied with what they have,.. We have a tendency to long for that currently unavailable shiny object on the horizon...

I meant he only shoots jump shots when open, so it doesn't matter how low his release is.

The overwhelming majority of 3s in all basketball are shot without being defended.

A quick high release really only comes into play for a few guys that are good enough shooters to warrant taking contested jump shots.

He's mostly playing with athleticism right now,.. He needs to demonstrate talent for the game.

You're right. Me saying he has a little George Gervin in him is OBVIOUSLY me saying he is better than Gervin. Yep, that's it!

Do share what the ‘little George Gervin’ part is.

When P. McCaffery does two long steps from behind the three point line to finish with a finger roll (sometimes it's not even layup range) or dunk.

I can get crazier & say he has a little Durant & Antetokounmpo in him as well...so obviously P. McCaffery is on pace to be a 3x MVP winner in the Association.

Which, of course, has nothing to do with my post. I've seen video of Jack and was merely commenting on his shooting form as compared to that of his brothers'
