Curious what the longest run for an Iowa qb is? It just completely shocks me that we continue to get qb's with little to mobility. Was it maybe Beathard that had it? Banks?

Drew Tate could have been a great runner that I think would have had a great impact on the offense, but he was pretty determined to run parallel with the LOS and was always looking down field instead of taking the easy 6-8 yards.

Correct, led the team in pass attempts that year.

Rudock had a 31 yarder against WMU in 2013. Beathard had a 33 yarder in the Tax Slayer Bowl.

Jim Hartlieb would be a good one to check, but I can't find his longest runs. But he averaged 10 a carry in 1990 so one of them must have been a long one. And I think he had a good one against NC State in the 1992 Kickoff Classic. Too bad he got hurt mid-season, would've made a bowl game if he stayed healthy.

Randy Reiners had a couple long ones out of the option in 1997. I think he had one in the opener vs UNI that was over 30 yards.

I couldnt believe it when they punted... It was like 4rd and short from the Iowa 40.... idiots. ... oh snap, I forgot he had two...go to the 5:20 mark...

This was the one (@ 5:20) that came to my mind first, but then after seeing the clips, I definitely remember the end of that other run.

I looked at the game recap:
The run out of the end zone was 44 yards, and the one after the punt was 57 yards.

In the two vids of CJB, one was 55 plus and the other was 44. He could move when healthy. He had a 62 yard TD run for the 9ers

Tate did most of his running around behind the line looking to throw. Dude was a magician....

True.

I remember big Nathan Chandler had a couple big ones back in the 2003 season. We used to run that playaction rollout to perfection. One might have even been a 30+ yarder!

42 yarder against ISU in 2003 was his long. He was a dual threat recruit coming in even at 6'7" so he was capable of taking off when necessary, just ask that Michigan DB he ran over and injured for that TD!

Yes, Caldwell played QB. But Podolak played QB until moving to RB his senior year, so his 87 yarder would be the longest.

Yes, Caldwell was a QB. But in 1966 I think Pololak was playing QB for Iowa as Ed didnt move to running back until his Sr year in 1968 when Larry Lawrence came to Iowa.

So I think Podolak gets the nod.

Podolak was the QB in '66. I think he switched to tail back in '68.

What is the longest QB run during the Petras-to-Deacon era? I was shocked to see Deacon take off this last game...but I liked the result

And he would pass fake 15 yards downfield and get the D to jump to block the pass and then run past them.

After thinking about this for a bit, I'd say the winner is Jon Beutjer, who ran all the way from Iowa City to Champaign after Sam Aiello beat the sh*t out of him over a cable bill.
