what was your first job

Cut 11 lawns in the neighborhood when I was 11 years old. Took home $33 a week which was good money in 1971. First paycheck job was at Cushman Fruits when I was 14 stocking fruit for gift box packers. Made $2.30/hr which was $.25/hr more than minimum wage.

Didn't get an allowance as a kid. Got paid a few cents a day for washing milking machines. Also paid 10 to 25 cents an hour on the tractor cultivating crops in the summer.

Working for neighborhood farmers baling hay for my first non family job. Unloading semis at a nursery warehouse. Being a valet car parker at an Italian restaurant.

I was farm labor from age 8 until age 18. I never got paid a single penny in cash. I got 1/2 of a bedroom and 3 meals per day.

My Dad never let me work for the neighbors, because "we have way more work to do than they do, and I ain't hiring any help".

In high school, maintenance man for a realtor that had 19 properties around the Coe collage area. Mowed lawns, fixed widows and doors, painting and transplanting every Hostas from those properties to his house. Man I transplanted a lot of Hostas.

Mine was being a paper boy at 11 years old in Iowa City.

First real job was as a cook at a restaurant when I was 14 for $3.15/hr
I sold Coca-Cola here. Got 10 cents commission for each cup sold:

Mowed several lawns in the summer and cleaned snow off an elderly neighbors drive in the winter. In high school I was a busboy then waiter at a night club. Summer after graduating high school I worked construction until time to head off for college.

Mowing lawns in my neighborhood.

First job for someone else: crossing guard in front of my high school. Worked about 20 minutes before and after school and got paid for two hours a day. Did this 10th-12th grade

First job where I really had to do something: cart barn at a local country club. Started just a couple months after the crossing guard job.

First paycheck job was at 14/15 working for the local youth conservation corps.

general upkeep of local/state parks, built a bridge, mulch, painting

Mowing lawns… walking beans … worked at a small catch all store (like a KMart knock off; that should tell you all you need to know about it) … Also, spent 3 months working at my one and only fast food establishment (Taco Johns) … The job sucked but free lunch/dinner. I remember making some 2-3 pound burritos … Yum … Also spent four years working for Fareway … Loved working there … They worked your ass off (in a good way)

Paperboy when I was 8? 9? 10? Something like that.

Detassling when I was a bit older.

Hy-Vee when I was 14.

I made a vow when I was really young to never work in good service. I had a shift manager try to force me to work in the Hy-Vee deli when I was 17ish. I flat out refused. He was pissed, but they were technically their own entity/employees and i knew he couldn’t make me. Your fast food jobs reminded me of it.

I had a friend that tried to talk me into working at Hy-Vee with him in high school. He went on to manage several stores and now is retired on a nice pension. I think it’s the only job he ever had.

Mowing neighbor's lawns. First real employment job was as pack mule for a fruit stand on Dale Mabry Hwy. in Tampa. Unloading, unpacking and displaying all that fruit was backbreaking, and then having to put up the fencing around it at night as well. Think the name was Henry's Fruitland or something like that. First of several summer jobs that were physical labor, but buffed me up. Oh, to look like that these days.

Lol. That’s Tucker. Our 17 lbs of rescue dog fury. He was abused and is very distrustful of people. He is our baby boy.

Mowing several yards in addition to placing labels on folders for business utilization

Farm work once I started walking mixed in with the construction crew around age 12. Very fortunate to have grown up the way I did, so many of my friends were lazy asses.
