I want to start by saying what a difference two weeks make. Yes, I posted that recruiting was disappointing, mainly because we had no Xavier Foster news and Powell, who I really liked and thought we had a legitimate shot at, committed to Houston.

Then Ahron Ulis commits and we make Xavier's short list of five and things look brighter. 2020 is a critical class, what looked like a class of four, now is probably a class of three with a possible red shirt by Jordan. Fran still may take four if he can get the right four. With that said, what happens next?

Plenty of offers out there to uncommitted players but realistically I think the ship has sailed on most of them. The staff has a good read on who is really interested and who isn't. An offer to Jordan Geronimo seems to indicate that the staff feels Andre Jackson is staying out East. They are similar types players. I am really high on Geronimo, athletic wing with a good stroke. Others who could be in this group are SG - Desmond Polk or SF - Kerwin Walton.

Then there is an athletic PF, athletically similar to Tyler Cook. Take a look at Martice Mitchell's video. Kid can run, jump and is long. Shot needs work and he needs to fill out his frame but this young man oozes potential.

Will Fran take a wing type or PF with that third pick? Of course I haven't mentioned Xavier yet. On or after September 7 he can take another official visit to Iowa City. Iowa plays Rutgers the weekend of September 7th. Whatever weekend Xavier visits, I would look for Ahron to visit so they can get to know each other. I still feel Xavier will be a Hawk, just a gut feeling. Mitchell knows Ahron so hopefully that can help pull him in that weekend. Will be interesting to see who all visits together. That would give a good indication if Fran is taking three or four.

Of course I have no inside knowledge and will probably be wrong but it is fun speculating what will happen. Go Hawks!

The team really needs interior players in the next 2 classes. The last 2 classes have had only guards and wings. I am not saying that the recruits have to be giants, just some with a nose for rebounding, and good length.

So you were whining earlier because you missed out on 1 dude and Xavier was being silent? Good lord man that's sad.

2 weeks ago you didn't think Iowa would make the Xavier cut or get a top 300 player? Pill time.

How nice that 2 CF idiots are now monitoring this site. I guess when your own teams suck this bad you have to do something for fun.
Sucks at what exactly? I really hope you're not referring to Basketball. Not the point tho. I was just stating it's sad that someone gets that worked up about recruiting in July/August. It's so early in the process that lots of things are going to change between now and signing day. Also congrats on picking up Ulis. Honestly I'm not being a dick. He was a solid pickup for Iowa and will fit in nice with Joe T.

Andre Jackson has a higher upside and I’m very happy to be in his final 5. But would love to get a visit out of Jordan Geronimo, especially if Jackson draws it out. Check out his Maxprep junior highlights here.

I would like to thank Hayes30 and Cydkar for worrying so much about a Hawk fan and my health. I can assure you I am doing fine living on the lake. You can only fish, golf, woodwork and travel so much Yes, I do spend more time following the Hawks now that I am retired.

I know 2020 and 2021 are critical years with a lot of departures, so had high hopes Fran would close the deal early on a couple 4 stars this year. No body has spent more time recruiting Xavier, even your beloved Clones. He grew up a Hawk fan, mom went there, grandfather played football there, uncle played football there, so yes I felt he would go there, I have posted numerous times over the past six months, that his commitment could pull other top prospects. Unfortunately he his taking his time, which he should do, this is a big decision.

Don't shoot the old guy for being a diehard hawk. I grew up watching Fred Miller's six pack team and was hooked. Then Lute had some very good years, loved the twin tower years. I still go to football and basketball games although I live in South Carolina. I hope Fran can have a couple good recruiting years, to advance the program. After the Lickliter and Alfraud debacles, we are starving for a B10 title and deep NCAA run.

Now please go back to your pathetic clone board and leave us hawk fans to ourselves.

Totally agree about Geronimo, he is very athletic. Indiana, Xavier, Penn State are in the mix now so it'll be interesting if he visits. If he visits, we have a shot.

I know Fran has a good relationship with Jackson and once again was in early but that has happened with these top 50 out-of-state kids before and no commit. Fran can bring Jackson back in for another official in October so who knows. I think Jackson and Toussaint know each other which could help.

Geronimo would be a helluva consolation prize. I'd be very happy with a Ulis, Foster and Geronimo class. Is there room for Mitchell?

Not sure where you deduced I didn't think Fran would sign a top 300 recruit. In my post I talked about losing Powell and Xavier slow playing things.

Ulis is a good commit and Fran still has a shot at several four stars. Maybe this is the year he gets over the hump.

In fairness Xavier Foster is also a top 300 recruit. And reality is that Ulis is way closer to 200 than 300- basically where Halliburton was at the same point in his career.

The imminent fall off of the Iowa State program is going to be comical. In fact, it’s really already happened. Their terrible season two years ago was overshadowed by a surprisingly poor Iowa season. Then, they were pretty bad last year and downright horrific relative to their talent level. They did not backfill any of those losses with top players, and they don’t have the in-state connections that provide a good foundation like Iowa does. Top instate players aren’t looking to go to ISU.

oh well, at least they have the emergence of Real Mitchell to look forward to this fall.

This is all accurate except Foster is strongly considering ISU.

This looks like troll bait. Some of our fans like to start threads encouraging ISU/Nebraska trolls and makes the forums nauseating.

I like Iowa's chances with Foster but I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't get him.

Fran has done a better job than he gets credit for but it would be nice to see him land an out of state 4 star again. We've had the luxury of Joe and Pat in the past two classes but we need to demonstrate success with top 100 out of state recruits. We are several years removed from Tyler Cook.

That’s fine, but unless you are a top school it’s hard to get top talent with other four-star guys in front of them or at the same position. We got Cook and Garza from out of state in consecutive classes- I have little reason to believe that we wouldn’t have got similar level talent from elsewhere if the state of iowa hadn’t happened to produce 4* kids in 2018 and 2019.

Fred Miller? How about Ralph Miller's "Six Pack".

Perhaps the clones can get their meh players to play as a team and win, something that appeared to elude their talented teams.

I bet Iowa State gets a top 20-10 class for 2020. ISU will still go dancing this Season and everything in Ames will still be ok.

ISU will not make the NCAA tourney this season, with or without Bolton.

And how big is the ISU class going to be for 2020? Top 20 is pretty ambitious. The THT/Griffin/Conditt/Haliburton class was #28 and that included two guys in the Top 125.

3. I'm banking on Foster, Jamari Sibley, and Dudley Blackwell.

Would have been right on the edge of Top 20 for a class last season.

Blackwell is probably the most likely out of those 3 to end up at ISU.

I would say they have a very good shot for Foster. Sibley and Blackwell both have CB predictions for Iowa State. The way things sit right now a Class of those 3 would be #1 in the nation per 247. ISU getting all 3 of those guys is very realistic.

CBs are kind of pointless until the player is ready to recruit. If you believe the 1 CB for Sibley matters then the multiple CBs for Foster to Iowa must also matter.

I believe the more recent they are they do matter.

No I have to admit that your ignoring of statistical probability along with lack of knowledge of the entire recruiting process made me chuckle a bit.

Foster has 6 CB's to Iowa and one is more recent than the CB's to ISU for both Sibley and Blackwell.

LOL at "The way things sit right now a Class of those 3 would be #1 in the nation per 247".

Let me know when class rank in August means anything.

They mean nothing but I do see it being hard a Class that would be ranked#1 right now would fall to #25 or below before signing day. The 1 CB that is even close to the date for Foster that Sibley's was is an undecided pick. That is def no a CB pick towards Iowa lol.

Using 247's class calculator, the points for a class of Sibley, Foster and Blackwell would have been just outside the Top 20 for the 2019 cycle.
