Heaven, Iowa
Hostile environment?

* I would say not even close.

Iowa, when on offense?

* Can we run on them? Or will they stack the box like MN?

* It looks like you can throw on them. Ohio State's QB thew 6 TD passes on Sat Oct 6.

Iowa, when on defense?

* IU"s B1G results so far:

L 49-26 vs OSU
W 24-17 Rutgers
L 35-21 MSU

* The Indiana QB looks dangerous. He threw for 322 yds and 3 TDs vs Ohio State. IU's offense was pass happy vs OSU even with being down only 28-20 at half time; they had 49 passes and 21 rushes. In contrast, in their 24-17 win over Rutgers, they were balanced: 40 passes (288 yds), 42 rushes (163 yds).

* I think we have some serous questions and concerns when it comes to the Iowa back 7.

--LB Nick Niemann is out
--LB Jack Hockaday is probably out
--LB Amani Jones is probably out for 1st half

--CB Matt Hankins is probably back
--CB Michael Ojemudia is probably back but does he start? Or has Brents passed him and taken the job?

Bottom Line?

* We should win this game but we have to cut down on dumb turnovers because that is what allowed Minnesota to hang around and lets be honest, the -3 turnover margin vs Wisconsin cost us that game (and probably cost us the West division title).

I think Indiana will be tough next week. If we don't run the ball better next week, we'll lose. Yes tgeir QB is playing at a high level.

I am concerned about the back 7 also. I think Hankins and Brents are our best DB's, I really like there length. At LBer, Colbert needs to start. Not sure about the combination. Playing Stoner made a lot of sense. Jones played his best game, to bad he'll be out for first half.

If we stop giving our competition a short field, the future should be bright.

Gotta eliminate the MULTIPLE big mistakes and turnovers each game.
We do that and we'll be 5-1.

Think we saw our young CBs grow up today. Brent's will be out there. Get healthy at LB... Defense is going to come together!!

Liked what offense did today other than the turnovers

I expect a similar game to Minny.

I could see a 52-35 score.

I would hope not. Look at the MSU game. Indy's running game is weak. One big back is their (Indy's) main runner. Contain QB Ramsey. Indy's going to pass a lot, figure on 45 pass plays to maybe 15 run plays. Three main receivers, Whop Philyor (recovering for ankle injury) , Westbrook big play threat, Hale is the red zone threat. Indy came back late against MSU to close the game.

Score early and play 60 minutes. Grind the clock. Improve running game. See more of Toren Young in first half. Iowa must score 35+ to assure victory. Indy's will score points but will yield points. Iowa's DL penetration and batted passes could lead to several interceptions and win the game. Iowa can only allow one turnover, at most. Turnovers have come to haunt Iowa. Cannot play tired-- reason tOSU allowed Indy to be competitive in first half. Iowa needs to take enough DBs to this road game.

Indiana's RB is a big brutish RB ... and pretty talented too. You cannot conclude from the Hoosier's game against MSU that Indiana doesn't have a running game ... it just so happens that MSU is exceptional as it relates to run D.

Indiana's QB plays with a lot of moxy ... and the kid has talent.

Their coach is defensive-minded ... but their D can be a little hit-or-miss.

The Stanley interception before the half gave Minny hope going into the locker room. Big mistake. Should have been 28-10 at halftime. With Iowa receiving to start the second half, Iowa scoring on opening drive would have deflated Gophers quicker. I am not blaming Stanley for fumble as it looked like Jackson got beat hard by a swifter DE.

Just happy to see Fleck be humble. Hate Nebraska and Minnesota the most among B1G opponents. Cannot wait to see the 10/20 game between the two. Hoping Nebraska is still defeated (0-6) after they play Northwestern.

Indiana is better than is Minnesota, mostly because Ramsey is a far better QB than Annexstad. It will be tough to be highly motivated as it's like playing at a high school stadium at Indiana. Indiana's offense could/will give Iowa trouble. If Iowa messes around on offense it could be a 4-quarter game.

With all due respect(gost) , Scott (Indy's RB) big running games were against Virginia (204) and Ball State (114)[ Out of conference] . That's 318 of his 528 (60%) of his season production. In the B1G, he had a long run of 45 against tOSU but his numbers have been below 70 yards per game. Only 18 against MSU, Ramsey is the next highest rusher. Scott is a bruiser but Indy does not have much of a change of pace.

Iowa must stop the run and make Indy one dimensional. I believe they can and will.

Very worried about our linbackers as we are thin and wonder if Welch is still slowed by injury. Not sure what, if anything that Phil will change. Coaches will earn their $$ this week if we win.

Another thing of note ... Indiana has played in 6 games and yet their QB has only been sacked 9 times. Thus, that likely points to their OL being pretty proficient as it relates to pass-blocking. Their QB, Ramsey, also has some mobility to him ... so that might make him a little harder to sack too.

That is a very fair observation. Perhaps I'm overweighting what I saw out of him in the Virginia game ... but they're still a P5 team too.

I agree ... the Hawks will need to dig deep to get a win in this one ... the injuries are hurting us as it relates to the match-ups.

That, plus Iowa’s weakness is pass coverage, and Indiana’s strength is their passing game.

Indy being limited running the ball v MSU hardly and indicator. NW had 8 yards rushing against MSU.

how did Rutgers hang around before losing by 7 to IU?

Minny's QB threw some near perfect passes to some excellent receivers. Can't really stop that. But limited the YAC. If Ramsey has time to throw, they are going to get a bunch of yards. If those yards are converted into TD's, Iowa is going to have their hands full.

Hopefully the stands have a lot of black & gold in it to help motivate the Hawks!

Can it be simple? D-line best game of year. A.Nelson looked great vs Mn.AJ more snaps.40 big big game.All doables. Need d-line to chase QB and catch...

This game is the type Iowa loses every year , 1 they should win and don't , plus injuries to the defense , expect Iowa to be in nickel most of the game with Stone in instead of a LB .

Indiana gives us fits on many occasions when you don't think they should. This game will probably be similar.

I expect Parker will use a package similar to what we saw yesterday...Hooker playing a hybrid LB/safety role with Gervase and Stone playing the traditional safety spots. This will also help cover up the injuries at LB.

If Stanley throws into coverage like he did with the interception yesterday, it is going to be a long day.

The Hawkeyes have the resources to deploy effectively against Indiana. Phil Parker will figure it out. Expect Iowa to collect a few more INTs on Saturday and for the Hawkeyes to eliminate offensive mistakes. The result:
Iowa -- 55
Indiana -- 17

This young Iowa team is just beginning to show its talent. By the time the PSU trip arrives, the Hawkeyes should be in top form.

He had 1 terrible pass out of 39 yesterday. He'll be fine. Actually, he had another very bad one in the first quarter when Iowa went 5-wide out of shotgun and he looked at IKM the entire time, DB jumped the route and just knocked it down rather than trying to catch it.

I like where the passing game is going. Keep it up.

Is it just me or does Iowa seem like they are going to have to start passing to set up the run?

Teams just daring them to throw. Very difficult to run against opponents that committed to stopping you from running it.
agree.

what do you think about having these options to pass to:

Tight Ends
* Fant
* TJ

WR's
* Smith
* Easly
* Smith Marsette

RB's
* IKM out of the backfield
* our full back has good hands

Not sure we will have either Fant or IKM available this week. Concussion protocol can sometimes take more than a week.

Beyer, Weiting and Drew Cook will have to step up.

This is a game that will test our LBs and our secondary for sure. They will dink and dunk all over the field and love drag routes and strange formations. The key to stopping them is shutting down the run and getting them behind the chains. 2nd and 10s and 3rd and longs.

On offense, we should be able to move the ball well. Will have to capitalize in the RZ with TDs this week. Also, wouldnt hurt to have a few turnovers on the plus side. Would like to see them ground and pound a little as we should be able to.

I predict 93 people shoot themselves in the head while listening to Beth Mowins.

IU led 24-7 at half and then played very conservatively in the second half. Rutgers made it interesting but they never had the ball while down only one possession.
one thing I like about Brian is that he seems to not be letting up on the gas when on offense
