Since we had the inevitable thread “calling out” the Debbie Downers yesterday after the Hawks beat Illinois, I thought I would start one for the Rainbow and Unicorn folks after Iowa’s embarrassing loss last night.

Just a shocker how far 6 is from 3 in the BiG ten.

Top 3 teams are freaking good and on a whole another level than Iowa. (spare me the PU got beat by Minny).

How come Iowa can’t find a player to take over the game vs a top team? It seems like every other team has one but us.

Also how did Glynn Watson get to Nebbie over Iowa. Damn that kid is smooth. That’s the type of PG Fran needs to find

You still taking that NIT bid to the bank, or is the bank closed?..............

Sit down now.
I thought they could slip to the NIT or First Four game if they went one and done in the BTT. But obviously that did not happen, so we’ll never know, will we? Not sure why you are so intolerant of the opinion of others. I think *you* need to sit down.

As for this thread....I am making no comment about the game last night....positive or negative (other than to say it was embarrassing, which I think everyone can agree on). I figure since we always get the threads from the Rainbow and Unicorn folks that call out negative posters after every win, it’s time we had a thread where the Debbie Downers get to do the same.

Not sure why you are so intolerant of the opinion of others. (Because it's fun to make them think that, and then watch how salty they get. Case in point, your next sentence.... ->) I think *you* need to sit down. (Nah, I'm good. Iowa is going to the NCAA tournament, and that bothers you, so there's no need for me to quit while I'm ahead.)

I figure since we always get the threads from the Rainbow and Unicorn folks that call out negative posters after every win (Always...), it’s time (Is it time, though?....Who put you in charge of that decision?) we had a thread where the Debbie Downers get to do the same. (Are you asking permission? Is that what you're waiting for? Or do you want others to make these posts for you?.....That's why I suggest you sit this one out. ;))
Clearly, you must be new here if you think the pessimists calling out the "supporters" is an original idea on this site...............................

PU got beat by the goofs? The goofs are big, physical, and talented. They can win today and tomorrow. Not saying they will but they're much more talented than us.

Outside of Cook we physically look like a HS team and after 10 years you'd think Fran would have figured out he's not at Siena anymore.

Have people forgotten Michigan was undefeated and ranked in the top five for the first 2+ months of the season? We played a great game against them on our home court and won, which was awesome. But anyone who watched both teams on a regular basis knows the disparity in overall quality of those two teams is far greater than three spots in the conference standings. The loss last night was disappointing, sure, but I would hardly describe it as embarrassing given how much better they are than us.

This year's team has confused me more than any other Iowa team I can remember. At no point have I ever had much confidence in them, but they put together an impressive season. Looks like this team will have a similar seed to previous NCAA teams under Fran, but I am less optimistic about their ability to reach the Sweet 16 than any of the previous teams.

I don't have many complaints about the win total this year. 22 wins was pretty close to this team's ceiling given certain deficiencies. They should be better next year.

There might be some truth to that, but I consider Iowa to be a bit of an "outlier" in the B1G. Your initial claim that the conference has a few great teams that are so much better than the rest of the league is plain false and has been proven throughout the season and in 3 of the 4 BTT quarterfinal games (ACC definitely fits that model, though).

The top teams of this league have had many games struggling against the bottom 7. Iowa has had a strange season in which, with few exceptions (The home games vs. Mich and Rutgers), Iowa has beaten the teams that they are better than, but lost miserably to the teams that are better than them. Many have tried to explain why Iowa can't put up a fight against the conference's top teams like so many teams have lower in the standings (no defense, no guard play, depend too much on the 3, etc).

No doubt, Iowa is going to be overmatched in the NCAA Tourney. Their only hope is to someone find their range and hit a bunch of 3s, while at the same time catching a team playing like a deer in the headlights (happens all the time in the Big Dance). Iowa never seems to have this kind of luck - maybe it's time for a change?

There is nothing wrong with having an opinion, but when you have the "sky is falling" mentality after each loss it gets tiresome. It's not productive. If you want to have a serious conversation about the team's deficiencies let's do so without disrespecting the people within the program. We are stuck with what we have...a 22 win team. Like coach McCaffrey or not he has produced a winning culture here. People act as if Iowa is Kentucky or Duke. One can have high expectations for their teams, but should also have a sense of reality as well.

As for last nights game, Michigan couldn't have played any better. Defensively they smothered our guards, making it difficult to get good entry passes into the post. They also pushed our guards further out on the perimeter. That makes it very difficult to get good looks from 3. They had the perfect defensive game plan.

Offensively, the put on a clinic by moving without the ball as well as keeping the ball moving. I dont care who was playing defense on them last night, they were going to score...of course it becomes even more glaring when the team struggles to play good team defense like Iowa does.

We are a good team with a lot of holes in our game. It's ok to be frustrated as a fan and its definitely ok to question the coaching...but the "sky is falling mentality" isnt going to change the team that we have.
It's also not productive saying the players are trash or the coach is trash (not saying you're saying these things, but there are people on here who are).

Anyway, just my opinion.

Sky is falling after every loss? Hardly. I defy you to find one such post by me since last nights loss (other than to say it was embarrassing, which it was).

I give praise when due, and criticism when warranted. After losing 4 in a row...including losses to a couple of teams lower in the standings...criticism was deserved. It was not unreasonable to think at that time that going one and done in the BTT could drop the Hawks to the NIT or First Four game.

Most of what you posted is spot on, but I’d appreciate it if people would stop using this line.

It’s a far cry from expecting your team to show up and give a solid effort every game vs stating that they should be as good as the elite teams.

If you look at the bottom paragraph of my post, you see that I didnt say it was you :)

Right here!! Hoping for the best and supporting the team. Mich. was a 3 seed not a 13 ......you hope to win but cant be surprised to lose that one. Duh....

I'm still wondering how Iowa beat Michigan by a similar score six weeks ago.

But then Gonzaga beat St.Mary's by 48 during the season only to lose to them in the conference tourney. College basketball has never been such a roller coaster ride.

MI strategy was not to allow Teske to get in foul trouble. That’s where they got in trouble the first game. So they shut down the perimeter and allowed Garza and Cook to score until they felt safe with Teske’s foul situation. Then it was full throttle MI D.

This wasn’t a loss that negative posters can make anything out of. Mi is good. Whereas, the IL game definitely put us over the hump and firmly off the bubble. How well they do in the NCAA is a matter of matchups for this team in particular. Their junk ball D has to be somewhat effective and have the matchups to do it.

This is what all teams have been doing against Iowa the last half of the season.
