Where was Ava Heidon?

Has it ever been revealed. Or is it more of JJ coaching deficiency.
Moving Hannah back to the five has removed about 60-70% of the minutes from those available for the post players and Heiden has been saddled with the loss. We'll see what Jan does when we play UCLA and some others with dominant post players. We'll need all the help we can get against the 6'7" Betts.

I hope Addie Deal asks out of her scholarship and none of the recruits come to Sunday’s game.

Some of you are 12 years old. I get that. It's an awkward time and you just want to fit in and be liked. A shame that won't happen for everyone, and this could be a struggle for you well into your adult years. Have some ice cream and gtfo.

The advanced metrics suggest more of Ava and less of Kylie (yes, I don't they don't play the same position). But you need to get your most effective players on the floor the most. I don't understand why should she would ever get zero minutes. I don't care who they are playing.

Ava is a 4*+ talent and deservedly so, she should be starting or at the very least backing up Hanna......AOG should be hoping for some of Ava's minutes, it seems to be a problem for JJ to put her best team on the floor because it might hurt feelings.

HS is an undersized 5. It would have worked out great if she could have been effective at the 4. Now there is an issue of trying to win now and hinder the development of Ava or risk losses now to get Ava on the court. Next season with another freshman 5, will Hannah still play that position? I could see Ava transferring and losing both Hanna and Ava.

Just to be clear about this thread: you guys are crying about a Junior player scoring 26 at the 5 position and taking up the majority minutes, and a Senior backup playing 12 minutes, and now concerned that a Freshman will leave the program? Do you think Heiden didn't know there were other post players on the team?

She has played, is playing, will continue to contribute, and gain experience the rest of the season. A bigger role next season will be available, but there will still be competition for minutes. Or maybe Hays doesn't come either?

You guys really aren't going to survive college athletics in this era. Better pick a pro team with player contracts, or just find a new hobby.

Its just not as simple as you put it. First "the plan" was to play Hannah at the 4. I'm pretty sure both AOG and Ava thought that was going to be the deal. They would both have played a lot. Well that didn't work, because Hannah can't play the 4. So they go small, AOG goes back to the bench and Ava gets glued to the bench. Senior or not AOG still has all of her past issues against good athletes. She's slower, doesn't play strong, doesn't keep the ball up, and can't rebound out of her space of her arm length. Doesn't move well. Heiden moves better, gets off the floor better, and is a much quicker, natural athlete. The fact that both Guyton and Stremlow are getting solid minutes has to be weighing on her. In the old days, I wouldn't be too concerned, but this portal thing has changed the game, and its concerning.

No disagreement from me on Heiden's obvious upside. I'd guess she plays some good minutes Sunday--at least that is what I'd infer from Jensen's comments after the Northwestern game. Maybe she has a big game that separates her.

The portal is the portal. Players will leave for small grievances or big ones. Other players will leave their programs for similar reasons opening those opportunities. It's going to happen. I'd be more shocked if the Freshmen class graduated together after 4 or 5 years than I would be with 1 or 2 leaving, and I don't imagine it will have everything to do with current results.

New players coming in every year, new transfers filling the gaps. Nobody is guaranteed a a seat.

If all the upper classman leave then they have two open spots now so if someone does leave the Jan will need to be busy in the portal. She needs to anyway. I get that players leave. Generally though they are NOT impact players. Wetering etc.. Lauren Jenson would probably have played this year if she was still at Iowa. Iowa can NOT afford to lose the highest rated post player they've ever recruited, especially by the "post whisperer", supposedly. That would be a VERY big deal, and not just an "oh well another portal loss". Rarely do players that highly rated not play significant minutes even as freshman, unless they're on teams with significant talent. You would think between Jan and coach Peterson they could come up with a way to use two posts at least some of the time using Hannah on the block and AOG or Ava as a high post, and then switch them on defense with Hannah guarding the 4 and Ava as the lane/rim protector and rebounder.

An interesting side note when UCLA comes to town is that Betts and OGrady were high school teammates in Colorado.

AOG can play the high post with Hanna or Ava low.

Bigger problem is Ava and Layla were recruited with understanding that Hanna was going to her "natural" position at 4. Is Hanna going to play the 5 next year too?

Did Jan and Hannah think this switch was going to happen without some serious work and preperation? Was Hanna knocking them dead at 4 in practice? Don't understand it.

Next year I'd play HS at 4. If she can't contribute, so be it. You can't bend the whole master plan for Hanna.
