Whew

As concerning as it was that they lost a 15 point lead that quickly and in that fashion, the fact that they were able to regroup, stop the run, and extend a 6 point lead in pretty short order was equally impressive. So I going to chalk this up for what it is—a 7 point win against an athletic NCAA type win on a neutral courts

Exactly a good win and plenty of things to coach up before B10

Can’t complain and a w is a w. Evelyn hopefully gained some confidence tonight and hopefully joe learned some things. Should be a fun season!

Joe T was obviously bad tonight. But I was surprised he got the hook on that bad pass from Luka and his foul. That was a smart foul. Maybe because he didnt close the gap and make the pass easier for Luka?

That foul was his 3rd foul. JT just didn’t have it today. His TO% for the night was nearly 100%. BE was playing the game of his career, so Fran went w the steady senior hand. JT will have his chances - just needs to switch to decaf

Fran probably leaves him in if he'd had 3-4 minutes of just not turning the ball over. Fran was doing him a favor last night by taking him out. He played 4 minutes and had 3 TO's and 3 fouls. They will need him to at least be playable in Big 10 season.

How often does a team win that is that sloppy with the ball and that sh!tty from the ft line? Take the win and spend a lot of time in practice working on passing, ball handling and free throws.

It helped that Cincinnati is one of the most undisciplined teams in the country. Cumberland would drive me nuts as a coach. Immensely talented, but totally uninterested in playing winning basketball.

In some ways it was a typical game for a team that hadn’t played for 9 days and was adjusting to absence of a key player I think fatigue a factor in missed FTs and turnovers in second half. With final exams they were not in game condition but they pulled it out

as stated by many, this team is mentally tougher than recent Iowa teams and it showed

One turnover was a non-travel travel call. The other was a seemingly non-existent offensive foul call. His third foul was to save a layup after a bad pass from Luka (even that seemed ticky tack). Bottom line, obviously a bad night for Joe T, but the refs/circumstances just didn't work in his favor. That'll happen in college. I still think Fran should have let him play through it more. The team could have used him during Cincy's run.

The offensive foul was the right call.

He was simply awful tonight and it was a good call to bench him. If that's Pemsl or Evelyn making those errors, you and everyone else calling for him to be left in are singing a different tune. I don't know how anyone could watch that game and claim Toussaint was anything but a liability. If he played more during their run, they likely take a big lead.

Fran was right. After the game he said I don't know if Toussaint had the wrong shoes because he fell down on his first three drives.

You have a different angle on that offensive foul than I did or what? The TV broadcast showed nothing.

And what do you mean if it's Pemsl or Evelyn making those errors? They were making those errors!!! No one could hold onto the ball last night. Joe T is the one with the quick trigger though because he's a freshman or some other unknown reason.

I would guess he is implying there is a double standard when JoeT plays. For instance, if Connor had the same type of game people would pull out the pitchforks. With JoeT, people are actually blaming Fran for a quick hook!

Obviously everybody had trouble with the ball last night, but also nobody averaged 40 turnovers and 40 fouls per 40 like JoeT did. He literally had those per 40 numbers in his 3:33 seconds of action.

The difference is, despite the mistakes, Evelyn and Pemsl actually contributed positive stats.

Toussaint did nothing but mistakes (6 of them) in 4 minutes. He had no points, assists or rebounds but managed 3 fouls and 3 TOs in 4 minutes.

It was the right call to bench Toussaint.

Yeah and Evelyn had two turnovers in a one minute span late in the second half. I'll have to go back and look, but I don't think he had 80 turnovers last night.

So the answer is no, you did not have a different angle than the rest of us on that bogus offensive foul call.

Alright I realize I'm fighting an uphill battle defending a guy who didn't look great in three minutes of action.

All I'm saying is he multiple bad breaks go against him and should have had more time to sort things out. Everyone will hopefully be able to appreciate his contributions going forward.

He literally fell down on his first 3 drives. That's not bad breaks.

Need to find a way for him or build confidence. We are going need him this year. After the first two turnovers it got in his head and he was tentative at times and forcing it at other times

Read previous posts. I'm done here.

You should have been done awhile ago. You're defending a guy who had a negative Player Efficiency Rating yesterday and trying to claim he was something other than awful. Austin Ash couldn't have played much worse. Thankfully Fran stuck with Bakari, and he had a solid game and contributed to the win.

To assume because someone has a bad 3 minutes, of mental errors, that they will continue to perform that far below normal for the rest of the game is just as valid as assuming they will go back to performing to their normal standards.
