Which was worse for you and why,

Today’s result. That Stanford team had an elite difference maker. We knew the challenge. While Oregon was a challenge, if Iowa was as good as we’ve been told all year, no way they should lose in the fashion they did.

The loss to msu in the B1G title game. To be so close to making the playoffs was an absolute killer. They'd gotten their asses kicked in the rose bowl before, been there done that.
Losing today kind of par for the course with Fran. Stinks, but not a big shocker.

Rose Bowl. Today sucked, but I am optimistic that some of the young core we have currently will have us in the Sweet 16 at some point. I know I’m going to be called crazy and a homer, but I’m sticking with this belief. Bump this in 4 years when they do or don’t make it.
I wish I shared that optimism. To be honest, I’m not sure why some posters wanted the new kids to start over the core we had. This was a poorly rated class. I understand that some may surprise us, like Keegan, but in general, this last class never looked very promising. I hope I’m wrong.

Connor was a 4*. Keegan was a no star.

I don't care what people are rated in high-school.

Ulis, Perkins, Pat, Toussaint and 2 Murrays is a very athletic group that can D up.

This group needs a to add a transfer big and they're ready to go. Xavier Foster would be perfect.

Are you picking nits here or deliberately being obtuse?

C) B1G championship loss to MSU.
Exactly my thought. I was sure life was over after that game. I was sitting in a hotel bar in Chicago during watching that game. Once it was over I gave the bartender $40 and told him to make sure I felt nothing the rest of the night. He held up his part of the deal. The next morning was a different story.

They were both slow burns, and not super agonizing. I’d accepted Iowa’s fate by halftime in 2015 and figured it was going to be a real uphill battle after Oregon’s run to open the second half today. I was plastered for the Rose Bowl which would probably elevate it above today, but as others have said, neither come close to comparing to having the heart ripped out in the BTCG

UNLV in 87 was worse. The 85 Rose Bowl was worse. Hell the loss to NW ST was worse. No shame in losing to the PAC 12 regular season champs.

This. If you aren't looking at the details of the match up, you see a 7 seed beating a 2 as an upset. When you see the teams play, that was no dang 7 seed.

And watching other games, we clearly weren't a 2 seed either. The talking heads blew smoke up our a$$es and the B1G all season and we believed the Hype.

Going into this game, I reminded myself that we lost to Indiana twice and MN. So we could absolutely lose to Oregon.

Athletes at the guard position was a major weakness and we HAVE to improve that, if we want to play more than 2 games in the tournament.

I hope you’re right. I’ve been saying the same thing to myself for decades, justifying one “underrate” class after another. I want nothing more than these kids turning out to be wonderful and to take us to the next level, but something tells me I’m setting myself up for another heartbreak. Anyway, I’m thrilled that I can always remember Luka’s final performance as a Hawkeye, his 36 points, and the class with which he comported himself and our program.

This game, because there was still a runway of things to play for and putrid streaks to snap. The Rose Bowl sucked shit but there wasn't anything concrete to play for other than feel goods.

When Ricky Stanzi went down against NW coupled with the decision not to go for it at OSU and Shonn Greene not coming back for his senior season. That team would have had a shot

The 2016 Rose Bowl loss vs. Stanford was worse since I was there. I had never been more excited for a game and more devastated by the result. I learned in that experience to not let results of games impact myself so negatively.

Basketball wise, this was supposed to be THE special season with the highest potential since teams of the 80s and early 90s before my time. The result today was absolutely disappointing, but not the end of the world, at least to me. The 2006 NW State debacle was the most crushing for me since I was a student at Iowa then and went to all the home games.

the Rose Bowl loss vs Stanford or today’s result.
I would say today because I thought this team had a non-zero chance to win it all. The rose bowl is well just the rose bowl, it wasn’t the CFP.. it sucked to get blown out but national title dreams were already dashed before that so I'd say today was worse IMO

But the guy that killed us there is also killing the pros

Yea, this one is not even in the top 5 of Iowa 2000's disappointments. Iowa has had many shots in the second round just under Fran, and we're bound to get several more. I'm 38 and I'd put the over/under at 2 more Rose Bowl appearances that I'm not looking down upon (ok....up).

Basketball only requires a couple elite talents to make an elite team, and for all we know, they might already be in the pipe. Football here requires a bit of an inside straight, of sorts.

great post!

I guess i was most upset when we lost to iowa state in 2002. After being up 24 to 7 at the half. That loss cost us a lot. Football game.
