Not necessarily friends or family (feel free to discuss that as well if you’d like) but more “other” people in your life. Co-workers, garbage man, mailman, dentist, etc…. Any of you throw a bone or a tip ;) to anyone kind of random?

I ask because last week when I came from work and rounded up my trash cans from the street, I found a nice little card attached to one of the cans wishing me and my family happy holiday from our trash man, Christian. First thing I thought was “clever little ****er working it for some Christmas tips” as I don’t recall ever seeing this before. Wife said the same thing when she got home. Fast forward one week later and the next trash day and lo and behold, it worked. Two neighbors of mine had cards taped to their trash cans this morning. Now I am feeling obligated to do the same.

So, I ask again. Any of you give random people like this that you don’t really have a personal relationship with? If so, how much?

Now that is going above and beyond expectations of service and worthy of a bonus. Mine does no such thing.
Well, they started that after we began tipping them. If we quit they’d probably stop doing it.

The one thing that’s cool is they take all our stuff, every time. We don’t generate a lot of trash but on the occasions where we have a bunch of boxes or extra bags of yard waste it’s always gone.

They are good so we figure a little extra is nice.

I usually toss OPs mom a couple extra one's too

We give the houskeeping crew a nice Christmas bonus and contribute to the gift pool for the groundskeeping crew. I'll probably give the woman who cuts my hair an extra tip. There is a fitness instructor who drives over an hour to teach one class every week, so we usually give him a card with a few hundred bucks.

We do the trash and recycling guys. I think we’re the only ones in our neighborhood who do because they roll our cans up to the garage each week.
We recently switched to the large trash cans in our community where the truck picks up the containers so they don't get out of the trucks anymore. Have an elderly lady across they street and they used to walk up her driveway to get her one bag of trash, they won't do it now. First two weeks her garbage didn't get picked up because she can't walk down her driveway. We go get it and take it to the end of the road for her now and put it back after work. No more tips for those guys.

I typically buy some booze for people in the office. Big bottle for my staff and little bottles for the rest.
Give my barber a big tip in december

I give my secretary a gift card to the Orchestrate food group here in DSM. I never have tipped mailmen, garbage men, etc.

I give a Christmas tip/bonus/gift to the following:

1. Barber/Hair stylist - my family of 5 uses the same person who is also our next door neighbor. She always accommodates us and I usually tip her the equivalent of our family's visit at Christmas.
2. I give a small gift to my feed guy. Again, aways on the ball, accommodates my needs, makes sure I am stocked up on animal feed.
3. My 3 direct reports in the business office. My work life doesn't work without them so they always get something nice at Christmas.
4. My 3 business unit directors who report to me. Same as 3 above.
5. My boss. About 6 years ago he took a chance on me and it has been the best work position I've had. That and I will unashamedly kiss ass.

Get cash:
Lawn Guy
Cleaning Lady
My nurses and scribes

My kids teachers and daycare folks typically get some small gifts. And we usually buy the daycare folks pizza and cookies a couple times a year.

Our recycling/garage folks would maybe get something if he didn't leave half the cans in the neighborhood tipped over because he's in too big of a rush to set them down gently.

This time of year we are likely to tip the cost of the meal and bevs when we go out to eat. Not every place and not every time.

Disagree, everyone appreciates being thought of.

We give them to the gardener, as well as the housekeeper and the handyman. Wifey says she takes care of the pool guy but it isn't much because I don't notice anything out of the bank account.
Funny, she never mentioned you have a pool. 😜

I sent gifts to my siblings and that's about it. Maybe a card or two if the mood strikes me. This year I got suckered into participating in the Secret Santa at work. Usually I'm out of town when it happens, but I'm staying a little later than normal this year. I drew the name of the new person who doesn't speak English and only works with us a couple days a week. She also lost her husband in a construction accident a few months ago. Really don't know which direction to go with this. Target price range is $20-$30.

$100 gift card to Target. Go above and beyond due to her loss.

We give $100 to a multitude of charities this time of year for kids and animal organizations. I’m a sucker for kids and animals. Adults, not so much unless it is a situation like youths at work.
