Who is your 1st Team All B1G?

Agree with these but could see the MSU guy (Bridges I think) just because he is from MSU or NW guy (McIntosch) as sentimental pick get on the team. If so, Mason or Jok may be ones be left out. Didn't conference go to 6 man teams with the 14 team conference too?

There is no way, no how, that Peter Jok is not on the BIG10 1st team. AIIEC.

Games at the end of the year seem to have more weight, so Jok needs to finish strong, but IMHO he is in as of now

I don't think there's any way you put together a team without Swanigan, Happ, Trimble, and Jok. You could make arguments for many players for the 5th spot. Mason, McIntosh, and Bridges would be the top 3 I'd consider.

Agree that the four you mentioned should be cemented as first team.

You could make a lot of cases for the final spot. I will say though that Nate Mason is one of the more underrated players in this conference. 15 ppg and 5 apg while shooting 38% from 3. I will go with him for the fifth spot.

Any chance Cook or anyone else of ours gets honorable mention?

Amazing how many Hawk fans still wish he would ride the pine.
Not ride. Come off the bench. Starters were benched against Indiana and somehow we ended up getting back in the game shortly after.........

Teams are dialed in from the start to hound Jok and overplay/deny him. If he's not starting, then strategy change for the opponent. Then when you go to your bench or your starters have been running a while bring in a fresh Jok and let him get into a flow.

If Jok isn't hitting right away to start a game, he's been on the bench anyways because his cold streaks have put us in several holes this season.

Nobody should suggest abandon him on the furthest end of the bench possible. Just bring him off the bench around the 16 minute mark or after in the 1st half.

Besides, it doesn't matter, really, who starts as long as they're not putting us in a 30 pt hole......It's who finishes the game that counts.

It will be interesting to see if Jok is selected if Iowa finishes 8th or worse. The awards tend to go to the teams near the top of the league. I could easily see Jok left off coaches first team. In conference games only, Jok is scoring 19 points a game, and shooting just 40% from the field and 29% from the 3-point line. The PPG leads the conference, but by .5 points over Swanigan. The combination of injury and teams crowding Jok at the line has seen his 3-point percentage drop off the cliff. He is averaging 6 rebounds and 3 assists per game in conference, which will help. Last 3 games will likely mean something in this. Other than Jok's points per game, nothing about his game in conference has been at an elite level. He's scoring a lot, but not efficiently. Those sorts of players tend to not get rewarded in post-season honors.

I think Cook does..maybe even All-B1G Freshman as does JBo...

Nicholas Baer should be B1G 6th Man of the Year...

I think in a different year maybe he could be in danger of not making 1st team but when I start looking at the top teams I don't see any with multiple guys that look worthy of 1st team status and even most of the top guys on those top teams have some flaws or inconsistencies. I think in this year you have to put a player like Jok on the team even if his team happens to finish in the bottom half.

You are probably right. How about Iowa go win 3 straight games and Jok scored 100 points combined in those games? That would seal it.

typically the Big Ten leading scorer is the best player in the conference... and the Big Ten is the best conference in the nation... therefore Peter Jok is the best player in all of college basketball.
he's an absolute guaranteed lock to be First Team.
to even question it is blasphemous.

Jok’s 16 OT points are only one short of the NCAA record for scoring in any OT period. Record of 17 set in 2004, 2003

After tonight's 35-point performance, Peter Jok regains the lead in scoring average (Big Ten games only), averaging 19.3 points in 13 games.

Scored 35 in the Indiana game and 11 tonight, avg. 24 in last two. Had several nice assists tonight also, didn't force it.

Very good point. Even the top teams are stumbling coming down the stretch. Trimble hasn't looked good for several games either, and Swanigan played poorly in Purdues loss Sat. so theres that.

it appears that Jok, Swanigan, Happ and Trimble are "locks" with the 5th spot up for discussion.

Will be interesting to see. If it happens, that will be 4 straight years with Iowa having a 1st Team All B1G. Pretty impressive considering the hole Fran had to dig out from.

Quick question - what is the history with having a "traditional" lineup on the team? Do they actually focus on picking a PG, SG, SF, PF, C or do they just say 2-3 G and 2-3 F/C?

With a traditional line up required, Trimble becomes much safer. However, if it is just 2-3 G players, then he becomes neck and neck with Malcom Hill and maybe Nate Mason/Tai Webster (haven't seen how Tai's been playing lately).

I think it boils down like this...
Locks (concensus): Swannigan and Happ
Likely: Jok, Trimble
In discussion: Hill, Mason, Webster, Bridges
Outside chance: Walton, Blackmon

If Pete lead's the league in scoring per game he will be 1st team no doubt. He will also get credit for playing through injuries. He may be the best "shooter" in college right now. We just have to finish strong.

This is really an amazing accomplishment, especially with the expanded league. I don't recall How many All Big players Alford had, but I know it wasn't 4 years running. Heck, I'm not sure if Dr. Tom ever accomplished that. Anyone who claims that Fran can't develop players is nuts. And only one of those guys (Uthoff) was a top 100 recruit.

Well sort of. Before the knee injury, Jok was supposed to be a top five guy, so people new about his talent. After the injury most everyone decided to take a pass on Jok. Even Fran said when he went to see Jok workout when he first came back, he wasn't sure Pete would ever be the same player. Fortunately Fran stuck with him, and now he we are.

The biggest one of those for me and the development discussion is Marble. His freshman year, he would've been in danger of missing water if he fell out of a boat. He improved every year.
All of them improved at Iowa, but Dev made the biggest jump from year 1 to year 4

If you got to pick your own team from the B1G, I have to believe that most coaches would put Baer in their Top 15. He may not be one of the best 15 players in the conference, but who wouldn't want him on their team?
